The high team dependency is exactly why Sombra requires lots of skill. When your team isn’t taking advantage of hacks and EMPs, you have to go full assassin mode and kill the priority targets on the other team and hope to God that your team is competent enough to deal with the worse players.
Also, your first point about never missing a target is 100% wrong. If the enemy team is grouped up, it’s very easy to hack the wrong person because the auto targeting switches on its own.
I really would say the only low skill thing on her is her Hack because it is way to easy to use for a strong ability. But i didnt would call her a low Skill Hero i would give her 2 Stars
my view on sombra is for 99% of the populations shes a high skill hero. in that it takes alot of effort to get good with her
but when your already really good at other hitscans, like tracer for instance your view on her is going to be that shes easy
dafran even said "i dont need to practice sombra, shes too easy’
in the land of difficult heros, sombra is probably one of the easiest. her crap dps isnt what you pick her for. so thats not a reason for her to be 'high skill" you pick sombra to hack targets and to call it out. this singles them out making it so not even the tankiest of heros can survive
you farm ult, emp and win a team fight.
sombra is very basic ;/ and thats coming from someone who likes to play her
She’s not the hardest to play, but definitely not easy pick me up like Soldier, Winston, etc. I would put Sombra somewhere around a 6.5/10 when it comes to difficulty.
Mercy has the most mobility out of any support. Her skill and ability lie in being elusive to the enemy which requires you to know where they are and using allies as the trampolines they are.
She has multiple versions of her guardian angle
-regular (you fly and stop at your target)
-sling shoot (jump at the end to maintain momentum)
-tramoline jump (crouch and jump to fly vertically)
this along with knowing when to glide and when not to glide requires a ton of timing along with the healing/damage boosting you should be doing.
I know this and I don’t even play Mercy. Only fools think they can pick up Mercy and master her in a day
I wouldn’t say she’s a low skill hero, maybe not the hardest but far from the easiest.
Sombras has to -
Make sure she hides her translocator to avoid it getting destroyed
Become visible and hack targets at the right time
Have somewhat decent aim
To be effective she must call out who she’s hacking
The biggest struggle for me when I play Sombra is becoming visible at the right times. For example, you have to be cautious if you’re trying to sneak up on a Mccree since he can turn around and flashbang you.
While hacking targets is technically easy, getting value out of it and avoiding it from getting interrupted is hard. You have to hack the right targets. For example, if you’re behind the enemy line it may be better to hack the Rein rather than the Mercy. That allows your team to push in while the enemy has no shield to defend themselves.
Her rework definitely lowered her skill floor. Her value comes from abilities which are very easy to execute, which means that she requires little mechanical skill. However, she scales very well with communication and teamwork, which are in short supply even in mid ELO. She might be mechanically easy but she’s effectively hard.
What? Winston is one of the most skillful heroes in the game. Sure, his gun requires no aim, but he has one of only 3 ults in the game which require skill. Bad Winstons feed tons of ult charge without accomplishing anything, while good Winstons avoid taking excess damage, zone out key damage/healing threats, and even secure kills. Easy heroes thrive in low ELO, but he becomes progressively more effective at a higher rate than many other heroes, which is indicative of a high skill hero. But don’t take my word for it; many pros have referred to him as a high skill hero. No aim != no brain.
Eh, even if you believe that skill=aim, she requires quite a bit of tracking to get value out of her weapon. Add hack prioritization and translocator management to the mix, and considering that 1:1 she’s one of the worst duelists in the game, I have a good deal of respect for a good Sombra player.
He’s not the easiest but I would still consider him in the easy-medium category. Huge health pool, no aim primary, the most skill required I would say is for correct positioning which entails some good ability management, ie: knowing when to jump back line, and when to get out and not just hang around feeding .And I agree his ult takes some coordination. I just don’t class him up there along with Zarya, Tracer, Genji, Widow, etc.
No, I wouldn’t call Sombra low skill, same goes for every other hero. Every hero has different requirements to be effective. For Sombra it’s
teamplay: if you aren’t in voice chat, you’re doing something wrong. You should be calling or who you’re going to hack and timing your emp with your teammates. Though for whatever reason you can’t, you should be reading your teammates behaviour to see what is the best way to assist them.
prioritization:hack is an incredibly powerful ability provided you know how to use it. If you’re just spamming it on as much people as you can than you’re doing it wrong. In my opinion, it’s better to be a Sombra who hacks few people but makes each hack count. You have to know who to hack and when. Remember, the right move at the wrong time is still the wrong move. That doomfist is currently murdering your teammate but you know Mei has his ult ready. Same goes for emp. You’re in a team fight and now is a perfect time to emp but they have a Lucio and Orisa who have their ults ready so you can either wait but potentially lose the team fight yet save your counter against their ults or emp and potentially win the fight but lose your counters against their ults.
map awareness: the ability to monopolize healthpacks are an excellent tool especially when you, the enemy or both are relying on them. Don’t be selfish and hack only healthpacks that you use but hack healthpacks which you know your teammates are going to use. If you have your teammates fight around hacked health packs than Sombra can essentially be an extra healer. Additionally, better map knowledge can help with your tramslocator. If you’re placing it in spawn or in random spots you’re doing it wrong. The tramslocator is incredibly weak and can even be destroyed accidentally but at the same time constantly translocating back to spawn means you’re going to be out of team fights longer and longer. Now using your translocator solely as an escape tool isn’t the only option for you but if that’s your playstyle than you can hide your translocator in certain places.
positioning: when even the slightest bit of damage can counter Sombra then it’s vital you have good positioning. Never decloak in front of an enemy because right away you’ve lost your advantage. Decloak behind or put of view so that way it’s easier to hack and/or kill them.
mechanics: Sombra’s gun is weak with terrible spread which means you’re going to have be good at both tracking and conserving her shots if you want to make the most out of it.
That’s a lot harder to master than one might expect. Winston’s pick rate and win rate have historically aligned with those of other high skill heroes (e.g. Tracer, Widow) across the skill tiers.
His ult is third only to Pulse Bomb and Dragonblade in mechanical terms. No other ult comes even remotely close, as they are, with very few exceptions, extremely easy to execute. The timing of swings and jumps is demanding enough that there’s clearly a huge difference between a bad, good, and great Winston. Bad Winstons won’t solo kill Pharmercy, which is actually a thing that happened in the OWL playoffs.
I would say that Zarya doesn’t belong in that list, whereas Winston does. Sure, Zarya is generally more mechanically demanding, but Winston’s skill ceiling is significantly higher. Zarya is a high skill hero, just not to the degree that Winston is.
I wish people would stop calling every hero that doesnt require good aim “no skill”.
My God its ridiculous. All heroes have their own friggin strengths. Skill doesnt just mean the ability to aim.
Not the first time I’ve heard it lol. I actually first heard him referred to as one of the hardest heroes to master by a pro. Zarya’s a high skill hero, too, just less so than Winston, who is typically incorrectly viewed as a low skill hero by low skill players. If anything, I’m surprised that you even acknowledged that good Winston play is hard, considering how few people seem to view him as anything less than a noob hero on these forums.
