Do you WANT sombra to be a support - (voting thread)

i know i had a thread earlier about a “predict rework” sombra thread but this one is a vote thread for the forum users here

my vote is “YES”

reasons are it would be something different and refreshing. second… it would tie supports with tanks since tanks are always one or two up on supports for heroes. kinda sucks

as for dps heroes… if we get more it would be wild since so many

I am not entirely sure. It is the most logical recourse they have available and I believe it would be much healthier for the game… But part of me will always want her to remain a DPS.

why so? what do you like about the dps side of her?.. the ability to surprise and quickly delete since burst (virus) or the annoying hassle part?

if she retains somewhat of her old kit as support i think you can still backcap points although yea you’ll be down a healer… so hmm lol

I don’t mind what role she’s in, to be honest, as long as she’s fun to play as while not being banned in 101% of games. (1% margin of error.)

I still think she can work as a DPS if they commit to keeping stealth uptime low. The real trouble is that Sombra’s going to require compensation buffs in that case, and that’s not going to go down well.

What I suspect is going to happen instead of any rework is that Sombra gets dumpstered. They’ll slam her with nerfs until people get the message and don’t play her at all. No Sombras, no problems.

thats what i wonder, devs may be in bit of a dilema since even if they put her in support and retain her whole kit … translocator-hack-invisibility… she may STILL be banned the most

BUT

the dilema is if they COMPLETELY change her it would go against lore and character identity of when they made her. they havnt really done that to any hero? i would be surprised if they completely change a hero to be COMPLETELY different like a brand new hero

so IF they retain her IDENTITY and IF she still gets banned THE MOST. will they either just make her a completely new hero or will they drop their ban system

its interesting

For me its that she is the only DPS that is actually unique and not some variation of shoot things with one gun and then shoot them with another gun. I don’t like the basic shooter/sniper type characters so she is the only DPS I play. I mostly only play tank and support because I don’t like anyone else on the DPS roster.

My vote is: NO

Sombra is cheeky hacker by design and lore. She is supposed to disrupt her enemies.

OW supports are supposed to heal. I don’t say there is no world where a healer can be in the enemy backline, but it sounds counterintuitive

Anything possible in this, the craziest of all possible worlds, but I think Blizzard’ll take the easiest path. Which, to me, would appear to be all but remove Sombra by nerfing her into oblivion, as opposed to putting a load more work into her (whichever role she ends up in) or scrapping hero bans.

I mean, look at Sym. There’s about seven people left who play her. I’d love for Blizzard to prove me wrong and do something cool with Sym as well, but it hasn’t happened yet, and it’s been a very, very long time. And apparently Sym is still eating a lot of bans in metal ranks over on console.

Never clicked on a post so fast.

I agree with PO.

Sent her to the gulag with some broken ult.

I just want her re-worked without invisibility. I think she should stay a dps.

Give us tank Sombra now Blizzard

YES, but, when I say “support” I mean in the same vein as Zenyatta or Brig, with a playstyle focused around fighting the enemy team, and a healing mechanic that mostly takes care of itself.

Mainly because I want to see Sombra return to her original playstyle–which is focused more around coordinating plays with her team–and I think adding healing to her kit will both help flesh out her power-budget without having to make hack or ambush damage too oppressive. And of course teams will be more incentivized to play around Sombra if she’s healing them.

I also think that style of support is more in-line with who Sombra is in the lore–a mastermind type who is always pulling peoples’ strings, sometimes helping and sometimes hurting, depending on what she gets in return.

I mostly just want Sombra to feel like Sombra again, and I think it’s possible to achieve that with her in either role, so probably to the annoyance of both team dps and team support, I’m not voting for either :upside_down_face:

Her Uzi. That was my favorite gun in Black Ops 1 and they basically never used it again from when I played CoD. Albeit, I wish it was higher damage and higher recoil that you could control to promote gun skill. Instead they gave her virus. Yikes!!!

I just love how fast and independent she is to be honest. My least favorite part of support is that they are heavily reliant on teammates or they get their value by being a team player. Sombra was always my precious little narcissist.

well after so many years of marriage i still love my sombrita…

No. No sane person should want this.

She (like half the cast) just needs reverting to pre-OW2 with her improved gun and 5v5 needs to go to the chopping block finally so that actual balancing can begin happening rather than heavy pussyfooting around the problems.

Which also includes reworking the OW2 tanks into something actually reasonable, and maybe not having block or insane DR on every new tank post-Ramattra.

This would also allow space for support design to move in a less heavy on braindead heal/damage cycle design and mean we can start getting utility supports that don’t mean immortalities and burst heals.

It would also allow for DPS to go back to being hybrids in a sense, with utility that they bring being allowed to be interesting - such as Sombra’s hack (no, it shouldn’t be 5 seconds, but 1 second is hilariously useless - by the time it’s cast she doesn’t have time to begin shooting before it ends)

I don’t see the point in turning a D-tier Damage character into a F-tier Support.

Nah, in fairness she’s G tier damage lol.

Although I had the glory of having two players instalock DPS yesterday in Comp OQ, try to ban Sombra, Mei and Mercy, all their bans fail to go through and then by chance we faced a sombra that decimated them despite them playing hard counters to her that require zero brain power to make her useless with…suddenly, I realise how boosted many players are.

That side mode a while back with the return of support Sym has made me leery about moving DPS characters over to support. That version of Sym with the healing turrets only existed for one weekend - was only ever going to exist for one weekend - and they completely chopped an already bad character off at the knees. They slashed her damage and gave her pitiful healing, to the point where I’d feel guilty for choosing her and sabotaging my team.

I’d love for Blizzard to prove me wrong, but I think you’re right and that Sombra would go the same way. Suppbra would probably do 50 DPS with the uzi and heal for 15 HPS and that would be that.
