Do the CC/Sniper changes early?

No, because then you start setting off a massive chain reaction of things that need to be retuned like Doomfist, Hammond, Rein, etc.

It’s better to all be done at once

I mean “It would be bad vaguely for some sort of reason” isn’t really all that compelling.

I figure the idea that they can get it all done right, at once, it’s blindly optimistic.

You know as well as I do, they aren’t going to get it all perfectly right on the first patch.

And the community is going to come up with a couple angles the devs never thought about.

Better to get the messy parts done ahead of time, when the spotlight isn’t on them.

It’s not about it being perfectly right, it’s about it not being horribly wrong

So figure out the messy parts ahead of time.

If it’s horribly wrong for a 3 weeks in OW1, no big deal.

If it’s horribly wrong for 3 weeks in OW2, they just screwed up their entire “launch” time period.

“Everybody come on back it’s Overwatch 2 time! Oh wait, the game sucks still, guess I’ll never play it again.”

The entire world of games journalism, Twitter and Twitch is gonna be looking to either champion OW2, or call it crap.

So it better not be “Yeah this sucks, but trust us, we’ll get it fixed sometime 6 months later”

What a foolish idea

Considering they are changing everything, don’t you think that nothing is even finalized yet? Why bother making such a terrible decision if the next game isn’t even launching next year?

Because you get the messy parts done ahead of time, rather than waiting for 10-15 million new-returning players to walk in the door and see how they haven’t fixed the fundamental flaws with the game design yet.

I don’t understand how the concept of, “these heroes are being reworked to be effective and not overly so against one tank” translating to being bad against two tanks is not compelling.

Usually you’re logical but this is something else. “Getting the messy parts done” now is literally advocating for the idea of potentially leaving some heroes unplayable and in a horrific state. That shouldn’t be an option you consider.

Getting the “messy part” done basically means nothing

What’s the messy part? Putting the patch through? Why not wait until it’s done then?

Because I have zero confidence they can do just one patch and there won’t be some major flaws in it.

This stuff takes time.

Quite a long time, from the look of it. 6 months would be optimistic.

I mean, it respect to Mei, Brig, Sombra, it’s not like their pickrate can go much lower.

And McCree couldn’t hurt to be taken down a bit.

Quite a long time indeed, that’s why it’s coming along with the next game :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

You’re acting like OW2 is coming in September or something, like what’s up with that? They haven’t even said it’s coming in 2022, so at the earliest would probably be the end of 2022, if not 2023. There’s p-lenty of time for them to make changes and tweaks and the sort my guy.

I’m acting like there are probably 12 hero reworks they need to get done in maybe 12 months.

And they aren’t going to be able to dedicate all of that time to PVP design.

So do everyone’s favorite thing and destroy customer confidence in the product by releasing stuff before it’s ready?

There are zero scenarios where waiting on the finalized product is a worse option. Stop treating it like an expansion and treat it like a new game.

That gigantic wave of customers coming in for OW2 isn’t going to be a thing in the short term.

They get 1 shot to launch OW2, where as they can screw up a lot before then.

I’m in.

I don’t even pretend to know what the snipers may need but I don’t care, tanks are not beareable and CC is a big part of it.

That gigantic wave of customers aren’t going to have the knowledge and experience of the first game to make judgments with. To them, it’s a new game, and getting the launch patch just right means nothing.

Right or wrong, if they hate it they hate it, and no matter what it’s not gonna be perfect. So why waste time pushing things through to the game now when they aren’t finalized and won’t play nice with the existing assets anyway? That’s stupid

Because even getting them roughly in the right area is going to take many months.

They can’t just snap their fingers and do it all in a week.

Yes, obviously

Again, you act like it’s coming soon, even though it’s not. Stop being willfully stupid, pardon my rudeness.

It won’t work. Snipers will dominate the game.

OW2 has maps that are strewn with all kinds of garbage to provide cover to mitigate snipers. They also removed all CC to avoid some heroes deleting the sole tank. Two tanks would just run over teams that can’t do much to stop them.

Then there’s a question of mobility. It’s rumored that Call Of Overwatch will add inertia to player movements, so you won’t be able to awsd spam.

I was saying why not do it ahead of time with 6v6.
