Aged account? Screwed. It knows exactly how to screw you over. The matches WILL be made with your stats in mind.
Got an old account that averages 15k healing? You WILL get a teammate who does 5k. Every single game.

I have an aged account. Didn’t have any issues whatsoever.
Well, we have a duo of them, and it’s ridiculous how this matchmaker knows exactly how to use our stats to force us to 50%
In fact, I was 16 games over .500 a little while ago, and it’s like a switch flipped. I’m getting nothing but bad games, low ranked teammates vs. higher ranked.
Guess what.
My record is now 173-173.
Exactly .500.
I could play 10,000 games and this MMR crap would know exactly how to get me to 5000/5000
Better off with new accounts, and leaving some chance. Aged accounts get screwed, imo. And Blizz thinks this is great. They want people play more, give more data, so they can force more “even” matches. But this is not Competitive. It’s not good for gaming. It’s simply rigging it so you win half your games. It makes me want to start a new account each season.
you realize having a perfect 50% winrate is what is supposed to happen when you are at your proper rank?
thats not the system giving you bad teammates to force losses, its you not being good enough to carry a match that would allow you to climb further.
yeah the matchmaker can be broken sometimes but unless you are diamond+ you are not going too notice it.
because a gold tank vs a plat tank is fine while a plat tank vs a diamond tank will typically be a massive tank-dif.
I knew someone would come with this same old argument.
The problem is that you can see that it’s forced by the matchmaker. Your MMR shoots way too high, and suddenly you get horrible games like 10 straight. This is not natural. Then, suddenly you get easy games and win… and go beyond this supposed “proper rank.”
If it was your “proper rank” why would you easily stomp in games up there? It’s because it’s your turn to win. And soon it will be your turn to lose.
There is no proper rank in OW2. Silver games can be harder than Diamond games, it all depends on YOUR recent play. Because the MMR is adjusting in wild swings.
Pretty much, rigging the games based on your recent play.
So, there is no “you reached your proper rank that’s why it’s 50%” in a GOOD game, maybe. But OW2 is not good, because they’re more interested in FAKING the experience with their fake rank, rigged matchmkaeer.
Edit: One more thing. If you do something that the matchmaker wasn’t expecting, it doesn’t know how to screw you over like it usually does. For instance. In open queue I play tank and a little damage. I never do support. Suddenly, I go support (my duo and I both support) and we start winning games. Why? Because the matchmaker ALWAYS gives us a horrible support player to balance out my duo partner. I didn’t allow it. I went support instead. Result? Easy wins. It’s because the matchmaker itself sandbags my duo partner with a bad player. It can do that with certainty because it knows her stats, with an aged account. Switch it up? Without the data, it doesn’t know what to do and suddenly the games are easy. So, what is the proper rank? If it was our proper rank, me switching to screw up the matchmaker shouldn’t work. But it does, because it’s usually rigged, fake, and forced. Thanks to the MMR.
The reason people come with this same argument is because it’s true. If your discussion is pointed towards not being able to climb, it’s not the “fake, rigged, forced” matchmaker that’s the problem.
If your discussion is pointed towards match quality, then yes, it isn’t always the best I’ll agree. Hence why the devs have explained many times recently why, and what they’re doing to find a good spot for the matchmaker to be in.
In the meantime, just have some fun playing the game. If you don’t, then you know what in gonna say next XD
Dev keep spouting they improved this & improved that on matchmaking, meanwhile my match is still rolled or to get rolled. There’s rarely in between when we are fairly fighting and losing only by slim margin.
I don’t know what blizz dev doing, but cross-mathching 1 rank tier with the different tier below or above, is definitely a trash decision. even paladins didn’t do this bad, and their playerbase is way less than OW2.
The truth is many players are stuck at low elos because they need to improve in order to climb and there’s no point trying to convince them otherwise, they are very stuck in their ways, like to make excuses for their bad performances and that’s absolutely fine, but the moment they acknowledge their flaws, they’ll begin to improve and climb.
Yes the matchmaking is garbage, but the only person keeping you at your rank is you.
I’m not saying the matchmaker is great, but damn if this forum isn’t filled with people blaming literally everything on the matchmaker, as if they’re utterly blameless in the outcome of their games.
This place should really be declared the national copium reserve.
You can improve as a player and not climb cause your ability to climb is relative to how much more you improve vs the other joe blow who is also improving.
It’s a very vicious arms race.
sure, blame the good skilled players who got stuck because they’re always paired with 2 or 3 deadweight teammate. very fair and sensible i see

Ah, here we go, blaming the critics.
This place should really be declared the national gaslighter reserve.
This is absolutely true and anyone that thinks otherwise has never played on an alternative account.
My account seems stuck mostly in diamond, occasionally hits masters. Tried my partner’s account (which he hasn’t used in a couple of years), it’s always been gold. I ranked up straight through to GM and haven’t dropped out at all. I don’t know how anyone can explain this other than the ranking system being absolute bull.
Tbh, personal opinion but I don’t think the game can really tell where you should be if your performance is average. It can tell if you really suck or are super amazing, sure, but for all of us in the middle ELOs… Nah I don’t think it can tell the difference between G1 and D3 or whatever and that’s half the reason we’re all just shoved in the same games. I’ve had plenty where the lobby is plat-GM. This did not happen in OW1, you’d have seen it on their badge - you know, the one they conveniently removed.

Skilled according to who? Themselves? People who are the same rank as them?
Again, blaming others or the matchmaker won’t help you to climb. I used to blame my teammates ALL the time, wondering why I got put with such terrible people who didn’t know how to play the game. One day I decided to change my mentality and started focusing on what I was doing to make an impact. I was Gold at the beginning of OW2, now I’ve hit low Master’s.
The problem is that you can see that it’s forced by the matchmaker.
no you WANT to see it because its easier to say “THE MATCHMAKER IS HOLDING ME BACK” instead of “IM NOT GOOD ENOUGH TO CLIMB FURTHER”.
If it was your “proper rank” why would you easily stomp in games up there?
because people are not consistent
lets say someone climbs to diamond playing only junker queen. some matches the enemy team will not be equipped (read: have people who can deal with) to kill the JQ so they’ll stomp that team but then other matches the JQ cant do anything so they get stomped
a surprising number of players do not have a good hero pool and even the ones that do will refuse to swap.
this is the original (way back into early ow1) reason for stomps. once you are at your proper rank you no longer influence matches as easily so being countered or playing a hero on a bad map can cause a team to run you down.
meaning it can happen in reverse where you pick the right hero and they pick the wrong one.
this is to say nothing of the matchmaker’s winstreak system boosting a players mmr. because now you have teams that are theoretically even but one or more of the players are boosted and belong significantly lower.
and thus another stomp.
you are reading way to much into the coincidences and proclaiming its rigged.
its weird how smurf’s can easily climb back to their proper rank but suddenly you are being held back by the system
it doesnt take a genius to put two and two together and realize the reason you start too lose is because you are exactly where you belong and got unlucky.
its a 50/50 shot you win because there is only two teams one of them has to win
Ah, here we go, blaming the critics.
This place should really be declared the national gaslighter reserve.
“Blaming the critics”? Read the first part of the first sentence of the post you quoted. Other people who agree with me acknowledged that the matchmaker sucks. You and I don’t disagree on this.
Your statement about gaslighting is amusingly ironic since you’ve collectively managed to gaslight yourselves into thinking that nothing is your fault and everything is on the matchmaker.
I guarantee you that if you let a higher ranked player on your account they’d be out of your hardstuck rank in one sitting. Most of the people complaining here are stuck in metal ranks, mostly bronze from what I’ve see. If you can’t get out of those, 99% of the time it’s on you.
The thing is, there’s always something people blame. It used to be smurfs, a few weeks ago it was “my rank is bugged”, and now it’s the matchmaker. Anything to void having to reflect on yourself. The arrogance people like you speak with when confronted only shows that you hate taking any responsibility on yourself.
TLDR matchmaker sucks but it’s not the one sole thing keeping you from climbing.
Ive read and watched clips of gms and t500 raging because they have players two ranks below them in their team.
It happens to everyone.
Thats my biggest issue if i had to pick one.
I dont mind the enemy being stronger than i do my team mates being weaker.
so is the matchmaker working or does it need to be fixed which is it? is it solely skill or are we going to pretend match quality doesnt affect game play when you get poorly matched
nobody here at least is blaming “everything” on the matchmaker its just overwhelmingly opressive compared to ow1 and people are voicing complaints that even the devs are starting to acknowledge and agree with after looking at numbers specifically in low and high elo (mid seems fine)
no you WANT to see it because its easier to say “THE MATCHMAKER IS HOLDING ME BACK” instead of “IM NOT GOOD ENOUGH TO CLIMB FURTHER”.
No. I see it because my duo partner and I add literally everyone we can as friends, check their profiless, ask in game who’s got what rank. We check this with our current win rate. We can see first hand how it works.
How about you? What do you know about it? You just blindly believe it’s legit?
Anyone can take a look at this MMR system and realize that it’s basically rigged to increase engagement.
You could have 5 accounts at different ranks and the games vary wildly in difficulty, because it’s dynamically changing the difficulty of your games based on your win rate. That’s rigged.
