Unless you are in a 5stack and whole team is based around dive plays, getting value from dive involves having to get into enemy team’s territory physically unlike throwing ability or spamming L1s. It makes it so so hard to get a single kill without being 1hp or die compared to sitting back and shooting. Play 1 match of dive tank, and see how much of a sandbag you become and explode before even doing something to the enemies, why does it look like dive tanks aren’t taking any damage and demolishing your backline in your games? because when you peel for the backline your whole front gets demolished! dives need a self sustaining team, that requires a 5stack or just very hard to pull off. If your team is not actively shooting at the enemies while you are diving, you will have 5 people on your ahh no matter position, cover, utility you use. This is just the basic setup for an ideal dive! actual dive needs the most mechanical skills and game sense to get some value! So many times your damage will get outhealed and those distraction will have no meaningful effect. Directly buffing the dive’s damage or some kind of non perk cc resistance is needed, other things relies so much on a player’s skill and game sense. If I am risking my life to take out 1 person AND get out, I expect something to make those 2 happen
We’re currently seeing people up in arms about Hazard, people can’t stomach dive at all. I do feel Dive is important tho.
I dont think the dive is a big problem and rather the lacking countermeasures for dive characters are. They going into the right direction with characters like Mizuki being able to counter dive quite well, but the main problem still remains of many dive characters:
- damage
- mobility
- survivability (in terms of defensive abilities and HP)
Dive characters should pick two. Not all three.
This is already the case except for Ball but that’s a special case with his wacky play style. D.va is the most durable of all of them and that’s why she’s so high tier but Doomfist, Hazard, and Winston already have major counter play and are dealt with if players know how.
this is more so a problem with how hazard is designed rather than dive being this evil spooky thing that nobody wants to deal with
in reality dive is so vital for the health of the game that everything would completely fall apart without it
hazard doesnt even really play very much like a dive tank, if anything i would pin him more as a mobile brawler like junker queen
unlike junker queen however he is very hard to kill if the hazard player is managing their block resource properly
That’s because he has a tool against everything. A block on a resource meter, a wall, decent shotgun, and mobility. And everything does extra damage as well. Unlike other Dive tanks, he has no real weakness. I would happily play against D.Vas anytime.
If in comms you coordinate just you and a single other teammate diving the same target, you’ll feel superhuman.
Dive is very strong, it just takes communication, and most people don’t talk anymore.
This is why i push as dps do the damage and then the tank takes over. Granted takes coordination, but if im doing thebdamage the tanks supposed to do, i counter them. If they counter me, my team counters them. Takes coordination, but still dives are objectively worse than flanks. Most of the map design is based off flank and opposing corners. Lines of sight. This is why competitive gets kind of boring. Group up, who hits who first, push or dive. Why going against the meta causes mass nerfs and buffs to counter.
When you list things like this you can make anything sound busted and OP. Hazard is made out of paper and cannot brawl or take damage for long at all. Before his sub role switch he was seen as a joke.
I think it’s more the fact people are sick of dive being the meta. We went through years upon years of Dive always jumping back into meta. Dive is extremely boring to play into and even more boring to watch.
You can’t expect a team of randos to play a certain way. It should always be a pleasant surprise if they do hah

You get like 4X the drive score when you play stadium. If you’re unhappy with your 65 points per win, Stadium gives you 260 I get why stadium is more, but it just makes regular comp pointless for drives these days.

Dive is extremely strong because when it works it’s functionally not even possible to counter. You are just HORRIBLE at playing it. Stop talking about comps being high skill when you yourself aren’t good enough to play them and want them buffed so that you can.
