Disconnecting in the first minute of a match

Can someone tell Blizzard Devs/Mods/Directors that if a player DC’s in the first minute of the match doesn’t mean you should end it.
At least give a 30 second pause or a 30 second time limit for them to reconnect before ending the game.
I mean why is this not a thing yet? The forum is littered with complaints of server instability.
Good devs would at least be accommodating towards this sh!t.

Rejoining a game is only possible during certain phases of the game. If you leave a game either during the pre-game or during the first minute of the game, the game will automatically cancel (remember the 10 second rule does not apply to the leaver, but as a warning to other players that the match will cancel). You can rejoin the match during the initial hero selection screen if you are lucky enough to quickly reconnect though.

Otherwise, you can only rejoin any-time after one-minute of match time has passed up until the match completes. However you only have two minutes to do so without penalty. If you rejoin a match after two-minutes, you will still automatically be marked with a loss an be penalized with a -50 SR cut and a ten-minute suspension. This rule ensures that no one can abusive the leaver system by attempting to return to a match after deliberately leaving in order to avoid such penalties. Furthermore leaving three or more times in a single match will result in an automatic penalty. If you fail to return to a match by the time it ends normally (regardless of match result) you will be penalized.

Unfortunately all disconnections and game crashes counts as leaving the match and will be penalized appropriately. The game server has no way to discern a legitimate disconnection or game crash from one that is forcefully caused by a dishonest player to bypass leaver penalties. You can learn about this policy here:

Remember if you see the message, “Lost Connection to the Server” in the title screen or the message “Failed to Connect to Server” in red text in the text chat box, this means there is something that disrupted your connection to the game server and not a problem with the game server itself. There can be a variety of reasons this happens including those that don’t disconnect your computer from the Internet. There is great troubleshooting to start with that can most likely resolve most issues and I encourage you to check them out here:

As always if nothing in that guide works, please start a NEW TOPIC in the technical support forum saying you completed these steps and additional advice can be provided. Good luck!

Disconnecting in the first minute of a match is easily game ending.

it helps your team in the long run instead of leaving them at a massive disadvantage for awhile

Yes and the current system is perfect the way it is?
My case and point is if a lot of players are having the same issue maybe do a work around? You think a 30 second initial pause or re connection time would hurt?
This is an online game there will always be issues that cause connection instability regardless of which party is at fault. Worst is that players playing competitive lose SR/Queue ban and an exp loss/reduction penalty.

But it is fair for both teams? Does the team without the leaver want to wait? The answer there is no. Its better to cancel and give the remaining players a chance to requeue and encourage the player who disconnect to fix their issues before they attempt to play Competitive again.

Yes it does.

Your team and opponents waited in queue for quite some time, and whether in your control or not, you’re bad internet connection is making it even worse for all 11 of them.

Your responses are prime example of “Don’t care as long as its not my problem”.
Anyways if 30 seconds is too much of a wait time for anyone that’s playing an online game they have some issues that needs addressing.

Well to be blunt honest that is exactly right. As a player in my own Competitive Matches, I don’t want to start a match with a player who is showing signs of disconnecting. As a player and as someone who spends time helping others troubleshoot their connection issues, I want players who are disconnecting to stop and take time to resolve their issues.
