Disconnecting and can't reconnect

I’ve been getting a lot of disconnects recently while still maintaining internet. I’m currently submitting this while my overwatch won’t connect to your servers while I was in the middle of a competitive game. I’ve had so many issues with the game disconnecting me or crashing my computer that I don’t get with any other blizzard game or other pc game.

It’s ridiculous that I lose SR from being forced out of a match because I’m kicked out of the server when I can still connect to hearthstone and the general internet. I’ve been a long time supporter of Blizzard and this game but I’ve run into so many technical problems getting overwatch to continue to run that it has become too much.

My firewall settings are all set with the recommended port forwardings and settings.

After restarting my computer it allows me to rejoin but not after losing a competitive game and the SR. Happened three times so far while my team was winning

It sounds like the next step is to figure out where the connection drop is coming from, and no it not necessarily the game server. You can find out by running a WinMTR test:

WinMTR instructions:

1. Download WinMTR from http://winmtr.net/download-winmtr/ (Console players need a Windows Desktop Computer connected to the same network as their console to do this.)
2. Unzip the WinMTR.zip file to the Desktop.
3. Open the WinMTR folder and select the 32 or 64 bit version. Choose whichever one corresponds to your version of Windows.
4. Run the WinMTR.exe
5. Type the IP address you want to trace in the “Host” field. To get the correct IP you will actually need to open up the game and go Practice Vs AI or Quick Play and if you are on PC hit Ctrl+Shift+N and it will bring up the ingame network diagnostic graph, or go to Video > Options > Display Network Performance Graph if you are on any platform including Console. In the top left corner is the IP address you want to run WinMTR to.
   
   note When looking at the IP it will show up ingame as something like 12.34.56.78:12345. You will want to leave the last 5 digits and the colon at the end off and the IP you want to use is just the 12.34.56.78
6. Once you notice the connection issue while playing, play for about 6 more minutes, minimize the game and click on “Stop”.
7. Click on “Copy text to clipboard”, then return to this forum thread.
8. Type two sets of four squiggly lines and then paste the contents of the WinMTR test between: ~~~~ Paste WinMTR Test Results Here ~~~~

If in the event you can’t even connect to Overwatch and get into any game mode at all, please use one of the following IP addresses based on your geographical region:

• US West - 24.105.30.129
• US Central - 24.105.62.129
• Brazil - 54.207.107.12
• Europe - 185.60.114.159
• Europe - 185.60.112.157
• Korea - 211.234.110.1
• Taiwan - 203.66.81.98

Since there aren’t any reports of outages, it sounds like the issue is with your connection to the servers. There are troubleshooting steps for this issue.

I’ve had so many issues with the game disconnecting me or crashing my computer that I don’t get with any other blizzard game or other pc game.

This game is a lot more resource intensive than those other games, but it sounds like you’re having hardware problems if you are experiencing “crashing.”

The game can’t tell the difference between someone pulling the plug to avoid losing and your internet connection having packet loss or disconnecting, so it treats everyone the same.

Additionally, packet loss generally doesn’t disconnect your internet. A game like HearthStone is still VERY playable with packet loss.

I’d suggest trying the troubleshooting steps I provided in the link above. If they don’t work, we can examine a WinMTR test result and try to narrow it down.

In the meantime, stop joining competitive matches until this issue is sorted out. You’ll only cost yourself some SR, and it isn’t fair to other players.

I will go ahead and try these, but the game won’t let me log back in after a disconnect without restarting my computer. Yet everything else operates the same.
