Director's Take: Opening up the conversation on 5v5 and 6v6

Here are some reasons:

  • Can’t make the decision to play heroes of different roles based on maps
  • Hybrid heroes reworked to losing their identities to cater an overarching role purpose/queue times rather than the specialised fantasy of the individual hero (Doomfist/Sombra/Symmetra/Torbjorn/Brigitte etc)
  • Cannot flex heroes of different roles in a singular game to adapt to/counter enemy heroes
  • Officially invalidating players who flex or play non-RQ compositions

From the top of my head.

for some heroes, maybe. but gamesense is equally as important for a lot of dps. i agree though, there isnt much incentive (gameplay wise) to pick tank, unless youre just kind of an alpha male irl.

I know this topic is about 6v6 but I also want to express my support for having a single game mode. I think a compromise between role queue such as similar to other popular Competitive-Team Fighters (League of Legends) where you might queue for a role, but it is preference rather than Locking team compositions as fixed roles.

I think a non-binding Role Queue would be the natural evolution for Overwatch, and would be beneficial to compliment a 6v6 gamemode.

Hell I just want to be able to request a role swap with a teammate, and communicate with them about it.

If I’m playing awfully as tank, and a different teammate would happily swap me out, why cant we?

It is my belief, that Blizzard nailed a good game, but had no talent, nor vision to make it happen.

We are stuck now with reality.

The community needs to support, to keep the game alive.

All the while, Marvels is coming out next year. Less graphics and more game play.

Like Venom for tank players is out of this world.

I will be surprised if they do not adjust Venom.

I have my fingers crossed to see 6v6 return with something like a flex role that’s able to play any hero. If each team had 1 tank and 1 flex, then it would allow more diversity in team compositions.

Ties happened far more in 1 than they have in 2, just personally speaking.

in time. right now, the devs were left with a pile of S#^T.

So 5vs5 is here to stay?

The summary of the problem: there’s a huge number of people wanting to play DPS compared to other roles. So there’s only 2 ways about his now.
1- Go 5v5 in a 1-3-1 role queue.
2-Go back to 6v6 but make tanks more DPSlike than Tanklike. Aka rework tanks so they’re a middle ground between actual tanks and DPS. Mei is a good DPS-to-tank candidate and maybe junkerqueen is a good tank-to-DPS candidate.

Trying 6v6 right now is a moot point as all tank reworks pushed them out of the boundaries of an acceptable duo role. So much to change it’s just a nightmare to balance back. Go forwards, not backwards!

So what happened to PvE? Why does it feel like more effort has been put into a controversial change in PvP format than the PvE experience? Many fans of OW want more lore.

NO, the community needs to support the game. Like money, and game play time.

They aren’t replacing it, as far as we know 5v5 and 6v6 will be playable modes

Not many people bought the PVE and the devs couldn’t deliver on the promise, financially didn’t make sense to keep pursuing PVE

every one need patience.

The Devs need time, and money is all.

We can help.

Hey, you lot wanted 6v6. Now you’re going to get a chance to show Blizzard how much you really want it and if it’s viable with the current game.

If what you’re saying is right and 6v6 must come back to make the game better, then the results of the tests should show that, right? Right?

Or are you perhaps worried that all your talk about how popular 6v6 would be is just that, talk, and that these tests will backfire on you and Blizzard will realize that 6v6 is best left in the wastebasket of Overwatch history?

Bring back 6v6 so I can finally enjoy playing this game again

My two cents.

The reason I loved overwatch so much was because it was NOT a conventional shooter. You didn’t have to have excellent fps aim in order to enjoy it. If you didn’t want to aim like that, you could play Reinhart, Winston, Mercy, Symmetra, or Mei, which required little to no aim to play at full effectiveness.

Additionally, as someone who personally loves to heal in team games, having two tanks was significantly more enjoyable for me as a support player. Not only were there more healing opportunities, but having a second tank to help protect you, supports spent more time playing overwatch, instead of playing hide and seek with the enemy damage players.

The change to 5v5 was a significant blow to my enjoyment of the game. This on top of the hero reworks pushing the game even further towards just another competitive FPS game and the change to cosmetic acquisition completely soured me to overwatch 2.

I still want to play. While changing the cosmetic acquisition system sucked for original overwatch players, it is an understandable change for long-term sustainability. This isn’t an issue for me anymore. The issue is overwatch 2 is a very different game than overwatch. There was something so special about overwatch. I still remember getting beta access and being completely blown away by how good it felt to play. Overwatch 2 does not feel the same. All of the changes made ruined it for myself, and I suspect a very large number of players like me.

no. Blizzard dropped the ball. They failed in everything that they said that they would do. Hands down failed, and it killed OWL.

Just now they are open. The game needs help. And we can help. Simple.

No fault. No name calling, except for me. In game play. I need to have avoid player against me.
