Director's Take – Hero Balance Preview for Overwatch 2: Invasion

just read the blog. curious about the sombra change and a no love for my girl widow. just a bias take

also i dont know how i feel about cassidy getting 225 health again … sigh lol

edit: about mercy…scratch that damage boost nerfed… i cant read duh

Still no freeze for Mei back, still no reason for me to want to play.

Yeah you’re right. I misread stuck as Stuns and got confused. Being able to reduce stuck damage is a good change :ok_hand:

I really like Tree Buffs but it might make it slightly busted given how quickly it charges.

Whyy the Orisa buff. Why are we also not looking into hanzo mannn. And seriously no update to hog? Or at least a quality of life change to mei to make it easier to tell when an enemy is chilled?

Lifeweaver just needs a rework

But I do really like the Survivability buffs. He is honestly the most dive-able support in the game

Pulse bomb, mag grenade, echo stickies

You’re forgetting the part where its a massive, completely immobile object.

B.O.B is proof enough that massive health bars mean nothing when focus fired. And B.O.B can actually fight back. The Tree of Life isn’t some Evermean.

For Overwatch 2: Invasion, our aim is to have our newest hero be exciting and impactful on day 1. It’s not our intent to release a hero that’s way overpowered, but we’d prefer that people play her because she brings value, not just because she’s new.

oh she’s going to be broken as hell isn’t she

Things like bastion grenade or mccree grenade when it “sticks” to you.

Ram Buffs!! Exactly what everyone was asking for!

So we are short of tank players and queue times are going up so you might think the patch would be a little skewed towards the problems causing nobody to play tank. But we have

  • cass: health increase - bad for tanks
  • torb: damage increase - very bad for tanks especially
  • orisa: overhealth - bad for every other tank, bad for everyone below plat - orisa is probably THE most frustrating tank to tank against

good for tanks

  • soldier nerf (but should never have been buffed- they are admitting they messed up)
  • damage boost reduction - good for everyone
  • doom and ram changes good for them

Overall they have made tanking just a little worst I suspect, while addressing none of the actual issues that are causing tank players to leave the role. So for tank players yet another dud of a patch overall.

Well the director’s take isn’t a good one…

Mccree doesn’t - nor did he ever - need that health.

76’s primary is the issue, not his rocket.

Orisa needs the opposite of buffs.

Instead of mentioning the Kiriko & Mercy changes, which don’t have much impact at all and are not really needed, they needed to be mentioning how they’re changing Ana’s OP -100% Anti-heal Nade, as well as Zenyatta’s OP +25% team-wide damage boost.

On the flip-flip side, Bob can be crit, which is a pretty significant difference.

The new changes look interesting, the new support hero i hope it doesn’t end up being brig 2.0 and the new cinematic it’s amazing (like always).
Btw you should bring back overwatch 1 as a overwatch classic, as long as both games are not connected i don’t see a reason for them to not co-exist or at least make a classic gamemode.

I think he’s being adjuated rather than buff / nerfed. The damage reduction change should make him more vulnerable in his nemesis form.

Edit: I think the stuck part will help a bit of course too, though think he should be weaker to a larger number of characters.

I think mercy deserves the nerfs more than anyone, but, they should revert her mobility too, it feels weird in ow2, i preferred when the super jump required skill
