Director’s Take: Cultivating the Game

Map voting will be nice

…should…we report this?

Core game has definitely shifted to Stadium, but that’s a whole lot of characters for telling us absolutely nothing viable. Does Aaron tell you to make sure it’s a 2,000 word essay before it can be published?

As much as I appreciate all these updates with cool things inbound…would also like to see something done about false reports at some point though. The reporting system is getting worse and worse.

And instabanning throwers and griefers would be nice.

Apart from that liking the update.

I love perks but I wish we were able to choose them in mystery heroes, it’s so hard to work out what you currently have active whilst playing and would be easier to select when you’re leaving spawn.

Thanks for proving once again that you don’t learn any lessons, I guess.

They already did it in S1.

I still find it wild that OW2 players will claim that Rivals took all the toxic players from OW and say good riddance, at that…yet those same people are the ones that misuse the hero bans here while they’re consistently used appropriately in Rivals from release day.

This community is pathetic.

How are bans being misused? Seems pretty valid to want to ban heroes you don’t want to play against.

Banning hero’s only because you hate them is zero IQ and can backfire for your team. It’s a team game so you ban the hero’s which would counter your comp. Banning Sombra in her current state is laughable. I’ve seen it happen on Froggers stream where a Sombra is banned over a Sojourn. It’s a throw ban.

Pretty cool to know the new content coming!

Reworks for Suravasa and New Junk City are in the works and slated for release in the latter half of Season 17. There are lessons we learned with those maps (and others) baked into Aatlis in terms of navigation, objective fights, and choke points. All of these changes, from minor tweaks on existing maps to new areas of exploration, upgrade Flashpoint as a whole.

  • Can we disable these, then? It’s hard to feel like we should be playing on maps or modes that need reworks.

We’re working on a big Perks update for Season 18 where every hero will have something new to experiment with and each Perk will align more closely to our vision for the system. One example is the impact of picking a major Perk. Choosing your Hero’s major Perk should feel like a transformative moment in a match; while some major Perks currently do that, others aren’t quite there yet, and this update should help them level up.

  • Hopefully this means that heroes like Sojourn gets theirs both nerfed/reworked. Neither are transformative.

Well

Ana is the most banned support.

Once they start dishing out reworks and nerfs for characters with higher ban rates, she will take their place.

We know it won’t happen; let’s be honest.

Many people play games for fun. Most players are not at the top ranks, and often don’t even follow the meta. So banning heroes they dislike to have a more enjoyable experience makes perfect sense.

At the top when playing meta I agree, banning around what your tank wants to play is probably the best chance of winning.

If they don’t, I hope people call it out.

Give them the same unrest with Freja (who is still OP lmao) but for Sojourn.

Also…

Place your bets! Will the Sombra changes actually make things better for people (both for people who play her and against her - or either), or worse!

:triumph:

Yep; we know the answer. It’s the case for almost every change to the game ever lmao

Why do I feel like the way they are acting based on data is gonna be another example of the Survivorship Bias…?

How is it not strategic to ban sombra harrasing all the time your backline?
How is not strategic to ban zarya cause otherwise she can just walk up and microwave all your team?

New content is fantastic, but it’s vitally important that we create an environment where that content can do well. That environment must be healthy. Gardens need to be maintained or they’ll never flourish and we feel the same way about all parts of this game.

Then pull out the weed that is your Defense Matrix Team. It is actively killing the social aspect of your game and its been getting worse. The fact people are afraid to talk in your game should be a major indication that this isn’t working.

So does that mean we wont get as many collabs since it takes away from the core cosemtics of OW2?!
