Difference between bronze and whatever else is enormous

TLDR: I’ve played a whole season steadily in Silver and slowly climbed up. The moment I fell a bit down and started playing with bronze players I’ve tanked down hundreds of SR.

Long story.

So I’ve always had a problem with the bronze “git gud” mentality where people tell you that if you’re a Silver material you can, without any problems, play a 1v6 in bronze.

I’ve been playing in Silver for season 12 - highest rank of only 1630, but I’m fine with that, because it feels OK. Communication, teams trying to win - almost the whole season I’ve had a great time since I’m silver.

People use microphones and all. As a used-to-be a bronze player for a long time this was a huge difference for me. And I performed spectacularly. Did things and plays I was proud with.

I was around 1600 and it DCd me in the first minute with “Server lost”. Went right back in, but it already canceled the game, took 50 points away and suspended me - the usual indie company stuff. Anyway.

After that I played two comps in one of which a guy said he’s lagging, then he DCd (99% not intentionally), so we lost 1v6. From then on, I’ve lost 3 more games in a row with extremely bad comps and one game with a person who apologized for deranking in voice chat.

Now I’m 1500 and every game I play is so different, I can’t begin to explain. People don’t use voice chat, they just type curses and insults in the chat, pick whatever they like, throw, go afk, scream “REPORT” all game, yell about gold medals. A ton of 4v4s or 5v4s …

So I kept tanking down and now I’m Placed in a lower skill tier, because my skill was lower than the minimum.

The difference between bronze and even silver is ENORMOUS. Bronze is a sinkhole.

Nothing can ever make me believe that getting out of Bronze solo q (via lfg or not) depends on my skill in any way. If I was masters players - sure, I probably could carry myself out.

Truer words have never been spoken. I’ve seen bronze matches before, and some of the stuff that they do seems so mind numbingly bad

No one ever said that. What people say is that if you’re a legit Silver player, you should be giving an edge to your team that allows you to win more often than not in Bronze.

What you really need to do is record/stream your gameplay and have other people review it. You don’t need to post it in this forum, the Overwatch University subreddit will help you.

getting out of bronze is totally and completely possible and I’m living proof of it.

I can tell you one thing, the people in bronze that say they shouldnt be in bronze need to think for a moment.

Just had another game.

3 DPS, Hog and Zarya. Hanzo and Widow are premade. Zero kills from all of them. Enemy is even worse. We manage to push the payload a almost to the end because enemy keeps killing themselves and writing “lol”.

Our Widow/Hanzo duo has 0 kills until the end of the round (people were saying in chat), probably derankers, but they never said anything.

Eventually when we got almost to the end the Widow left and then her premade guy left a bit later.

Yeah, improving my skills is what gets you to silver. Don’t kid yourselves thinking your skills helped you get out. Everyone who is not Diamond or similar and thinks they got out of Bronze because they had the skills to do so is delusional.

Bronze to me is a myth i dont believe people can actually be there stuck without climbing out in like 20 games. The only reasons i can see people there are if they are playing on a crappy pc and get 30 fps or dont have a decent mouse and keyboard.

I can tell you one other thing.

The people in Masters who think they have a whole different world figured out they should think for way more than a moment before they speak.

“You’re in bronze, because you deserve it”.

Yeah, people starving in Ethiopia are starving because they deserve it. Noobs. It’s so easy getting out, they just need to improve their business skills and they will be millionaires in the matter of days!

I mean, sure, their peers are also starving, homeless and can’t read or write, but hey, they deserve it.

You know what’s the living proof?

I’m 100% sure if you put Bill Gates in Ethiopia he will be out in the matter of days if not hours. Because skills.

@Flyingfrogs, I’m sure you can’t imagine what bliss it is to say that poor people in Africa are like that because they deserve it (which implies I’m rich and successful in the States, because I’m superior.). Oh! Wait! You can!

Oh, and just so we’re clear. I’m playing in Bronze for 12 seasons doing everything in my power to win games. Almost every game I have has throwers or afks. I’ve seen with my own eyes masters players win despite that. I can’t. Bill Gates could.

Like i said i used to be bronze myself and over a slow climb eventually made masters if i can do it you can do it. It just takes a shift in mindset.

Yeah, 12 seasons in bronze, how didn’t I think of it. All I need is to shift my mind and the 2v6, the “nobs report i afk” and “sry guys i derank cuz smurf” are all going away,

That’s brilliant, how didn’t I think of it earlier.

I’m really baffled in those threads. People are sharing their experience from a first hand (sometimes years of it) and some guy just looks from his high horse and says: “No.” Ah, sure. Every game I have all the gold medals. Kills, objective time (always Obj Time) even with healers. I am doing everything in my power and we still lose. Why do high rank people think I’m lying. Why is it so imperative to you to believe that it’s your skill that got you up there and refuse to see that going out of bronze for solo non-masters players is nothing else than luck.

There are some of us that will NEVER be able to climb out of bronze. You can play the blame game and say it’s all that person’s fault and all that other horse crap, but the problem is the same thing I’ve been saying for almost three years – blizzard’s matchmaking GUARANTEES the best six players on one side, the worst six players on the other side. EVERY. SINGLE. GAME. If you’re one of those worse players, you will NEVER be able to win a game and certainly never be able to win more than one in a row if you happen to get carried.

That’s the thing I WAS A GENUINE bronzie and through hardwork effort and honesty I climbed all the way to masters from season 3 to now I wasn’t Masters to start with so it disproves your idea.

Just wanted to throw in my two cents here.
Overwatch is pretty much the first FPS I’ve played and definitely the first one I’ve played competitively. Came into this game and sucked at pretty much every character and for some unknown reason, thought it’d be a good idea to play comp as soon as I hit 25. Naturally, I placed low silver and ended up dropping into bronze myself. This was on console, mind you, so it was the lowest of low.

So how’d I get out? I played a high impact character and found other decent players determined to get to silver. I was a Mercy main but played zen until I was high silver then picked Mercy back up again until I hit high plat.
I could be wrong but so seem to be really focused on your sr and that’s natural but you need to know that comp isn’t about ranking up but improving. Play to get better, not to win or else you’ll just get disappointed. Try other heroes too. Metas don’t matter in bronze just play what you’re best at. Record your games, find someone to watch it and tell you what you do right and what you do wrong so you know what your strong areas are and what you need to improve. I learned that my positioning as Mercy was absolutely terrible and I spent many games just focusing on that. If you keep losing, chill for a bit, play some qp or arcade and try again.

Now about the teammates. Yes, they suck. Yes, silver is much better in terms of communication, better than gold I would say because they actually try. It’s a hell of a fight to get to the next tier but possible. Try to find other players that are decent and don’t be afraid to try and que with them even if they’re on the other team. If you have a 6 stack in bronze with good communication, you’ll be silver in no time. Might take some time but if you really want it, you’ll achieve it, just don’t get discouraged and become toxic like some other players and be nice to your team.

I believe you can do it since you seem really passionate about it. Hope any of my advice helped, good luck! ^.^

Same. But it’s not as easy as you’d think. Bronze is definitely a special place lol. There’s more there than meets the eye.

Disproves what? Not sure I follow.

Are you seriously comparing a video game to a socio-economic issue?

No, people in Ethiopia are not starving because of their lack of skill.
Yes, people who are stuck in bronze are there because they lack skill.
These two things are in no way related.

If these two things are related, then please tell me how long it would take Bill Gates to climb out of bronze in Overwatch. Or perhaps more interestingly, how long would it take a starving Ethiopian to climb out of bronze?

I’ve done so myself and it wasn’t that hard for me

You need to watch players who are better than you play and learn from them.

Bro, your description of bronze is hilarious. It made me chuckle. Now you said you’ve been stuck in the sewer of bronze for multiple seasons. Clearly you need to change up your strategies. What kind of heroes do you play in comp? What is your plan for beating the enemy?

But I did it when I started the game solo q too
