Devs respond to Eskay

flats still saying nerf winston daily

Again, decisions in large companies are not made like this. Imagine you have this big project for years, you don’t decide to end it, the company decides. I believe that the way they imagined it was something really insane to do, but I believe that the reason for it being canceled was the money (more) that would be needed to complete it and the time. It wouldn’t be in a few months that you would realize it would be impossible, they canceled it before. They never showed anything conclusive, just some things they had already shown.

I will not insist on trying to convince you that they lied, as only those involved know and they are prohibited by privacy contract. but analyze the past and you will see that there was no intention of launching PVE in the way they imagined in the beginning, look at this image

https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fi.redd.it%2F715hfjnfeol91.jpg

and tell me if they lied? Not exactly, we have story missions and hero missions, but they never clarified that it would be otherwise, only when they saw that there was no way to hide it anymore.

But clearly you can tell me that they are reusing content from the original pve, and they may be, but the decision was made earlier. The same team that takes months to rework a character is the same team that is reusing pve concepts, and do you believe they did it faster than reworking a character?

Honestly, I didn’t even believe it and wanted pve, I liked OW1 and wanted it to have more content, as it was abandoned, I honestly think that OW1 needed a new monetization system, to be profitable and self-sustaining. honestly if they kept ow1 with these updates and store and BP, I think the game would stay in the spotlight, because it’s a good game. But Blizz made bold decisions, OWL and OW pve (which honestly I still think the idea of an OW similar to destiny is incredible)

This is another story, the one who should not be named (if you understood the reference) is to blame for leaving things in the company this way, and when you are part of a company you are related to it and vice versa, the People are stupid and can’t understand and distance a person’s decision from others who work together. But this has much more to do with how the industry is and how we, as consumers, do not demand internal policies from companies and obviously the government for being passive.

I agree, but if you consider yourself like these people, this is more your problem than anyone else’s. I will never forget that they lied, or that they became a dirty company. You decide to believe a liar, it’s your fault. Will I continue spending on them? If I think it’s worth my money, of course. The only thing that I think is worth it in this game is the BP, for the rest they are clearly setting high prices. If I like the game I will support it when I think it’s fair, after all there are more people involved who worked hard and time for this game and I respect that, but I won’t be the one to defend or blindly buy things from this company and I will always publicly demand the decisions and nonsense Whatever they do, because I’m the wallet, we don’t need them, they need us. As it is being bought, it doesn’t matter so much now because it doesn’t affect it anymore, but a company with a bad reputation loses market value. (That’s why it’s being bought)

t’s not the same thing, in that thinking they can just play QP. Not to mention organizing, every game where you need to organize a team to do an activity comes out a mess (like WOW or Destiny). Furthermore, the mechanic already exists in the game, and only those at the top receive this punishment.

Go pro? Do you think every GM is good to be a pro? GM has an insane variation depending on SR, same rank, different performance.
The problem is not being able to play competitively, like any other player in the game the game with your friends. Imagine you get home and want to play with your friends, wait, I’m going to have to get 10 people to create scrim since the game was supposed to do that naturally, and I’m not even saying 5 players, you can’t play with more than one person. throughout the game this mechanic exists, I understand why it is necessary in GM, but since the priority of improvements is not for the smallest part of the game’s population, why differentiate it from the rest of the game and the choice for those in GM to decide whether they want longer lines or not. The excuse is always the same, that is, balancing in matches, but even with these mechanics these problems still exist. the problem is that they don’t give an option, let the player decide if he wants bigger queues, it’s not the best solution, but it’s better than doing nothing.

you think they will change the comp so it update every 5 games regardless of win or loses.

Use the same card system, but above each match, there should be a positive/negative value score for the game results, and have the 6th card represent decade with a negative value on top.

Also, during a comp match, display how much points that the each team are playing for, and display them both like a betting ratio value to know which team will have a harder time or easier time winning. The harder the match-up, the more winning points they will receive.

Of course the system should be disable/hidden by default, and allow the player to enable it if they want to see it. Highly competitive player will take the effort to enable it.

EDIT: Imagine if they implement a OW2 Credit gambling system spectating comp games, based on the ratio score, lol. This is because credit can only be obtain by playing. I will not advise implementing this system for OW2 coins as it can result in match fixing, and organization will not treat it lightly since OW2 coins involve real money.

One PAID content creator’s opinion is not “the community”.
Youtube algorhythm pushing said creators video also has ZERO meaning on its impact/value.

There is no one universal way decisions are made for big or small companies

If you work for the company you are part of it and there is no “you” in such a decision for absolutely anyone.

It was canceled because it sucked. They were given time and time and time and money andthey got nowhere.

Ofc there wasn’t - because it sucked

Their PVE project didn’t suddenly start sucking.

Long story short I personally am not phased because I never believed they could do it. That’s just me personally.
I don’t buy into “thousands of missions” - shows boring workshop modes
“Talent trees” - I played rpgs all my life, talent trees get boring real fast, they are so outdated in fact that new games have to keep reinventing them, cuz people just copy the best build and done
“Mei can roll in a ball of ice” - okay, but is it actually fun in practice?
Like to me it was just eye candy with no substance.

It’s hard for me to want things that I don’t even know what exactly they are. The PVE described fairly generic and “shoot endless ai with extra flair” - The hero missions just looked grindy to me. And I don’t like that

And deep down I knew what people wanted was an MMORPG Overwatch - that’s what it sounded lie when they talked about hero missions - it was insane. And they legit still act like an MMORPG was canceled.

Omg there you have it…

White knighting for streamers needs to come to an end. Eskay is a great OW player and makes some good content but we can’t act like streamers are always helpful to our cause or that they’re always “right,” because they’re top level. A lot of them aren’t and we don’t know those personalities irl.

Additionally though, devs seem to only care when the streamers speak out, so at the same time the community can leverage that as a tool to improve the game because they sure as heck never read the small fry’s complaints on the forum and SR. We just have to be on the same page for that to happen in a meaningful way.

It’s a shame because 99% of players gameplay is not “top 500” gameplay. Unfortunately, 99% of gamers don’t have access to a large swath of social media fanboys to promote their thoughts and ensure it gets read.

Hence, devs only take the time out to respond to large content creators because they have the ability to alter perception of their product due to their large crowd of followers.

The community:

  • Highlights a streamers take, likes it, shares it, posts it on forums and reddit, upvotes it, shoves it in blizzards face.

Blizzard responds

  • The community: “They only ever listen to the streamers”

Dude…

I originally made this a seperate post but no one read it and it makes more sense to post it here anyways so here lol:

In the following post, I expand on the conversation started by Eskay’s “Why overwatch ranked feels so miserable.” I wanted to identify what I believe the core problem is, add on how the problem detracts from player experience, and offer a potential solution.

Since the release of Overwatch 2, ranks are displayed as skill tier only, as opposed to the SR system from Overwatch 1. I like this change for a lot of reasons, but this new system abandoned the most motivating concept for high-level competitive players: Peak rank.

Peak rank was the symbol of accomplishment for any highly ranked Overwatch 1 player. Like Eskay mentions, “ask any Top 500 Overwatch player their peak right now, they’ll tell you what it is instantly.” Beyond bragging rights, it was also a useful tool for team building outside the purview of the ranked ladder. If you want to make a team of equivalently skilled GM 1 players to compete in a tournament, good luck! Some teams STILL rely on old Overwatch 1 SR to make teams as it was the last decent metric available, resulting in the exclusion of anyone who improved after OW2 release.

Some may reasonably assume that skill tiers are a reliable measure of skill, or that GM 1s can just use Top 500 placements to sort players. Top 500 peak ranks are essentially “fraudulent” as Eskay puts it. Even diamond players can peak Top 500 if they just play enough early enough (especially for tank).

Or, in my case, I finally had a period of time between graduating university and starting a full-time job where I could play 4+ hours a day for multiple weeks. Towards the end of this time, I was confident I was at my highest MMR ever based on the lobbies I was getting. But I never got even a little verification despite having many games played because Top 500 wasn’t out yet. GM 1 spans such a wildly huge skill level that it alone isn’t a meaningful accomplishment to many of us.

I know a lot of high ranked players would probably just prefer to have SR back, but I think most high-level players are less affected by ranked anxiety. I see major benefits to the Competitive Update system for lower-ranked players and have personally found playing with lower-ranked friends through a loss streak of 3-4 games much less painful. I know MMR decay has caused a lot of confusion, but it seems this problem is being addressed soon.

This leads me to my best-of-both-worlds solution. Since peak rank is both the primary motivation for high-level players to keep playing and a useful tool for finding teammates with equivalent skill outside of ranked, peak SR for the season should be displayed at end of season. This would solve the issues I brought up, as well as a few others mentioned in Eskay’s video. Eskay explained, “picture yourself going 4-0… you finish at 5-5 and you never got to see your rank go up." This situation may still occur with my solution, but at least now if that was your highest SR, you could still see that progress.

Similarly, Eskay points out that, “[In Top 500] finishing in a high placement is far more difficult than starting the season in one.” Now, it won’t matter whether Top 500 was even out, or whether many players had played enough games, you will still have an idea of your skill that is relatively independent of player activity.

Bonus Solution: Retroactively change peak ranks to SR since Season 1. Changing stuff like this will certainly put players in a tizzy, but it also doesn’t mean that the leaderboards have to be altered. Peak ranks are currently useless, and so much information has been lost. If you want to make this change go over more smoothly, you can put out a simple poll to see if players would accept this change.

Thanks for reading!

P.S. I’ll pay $20 to any dev that gives me a rough estimate of my max SR from season 3

This is actually a good idea

deep down we all know there are exceptionals in every rank
