been high diamond masters for quite a while, all of sudden I’m playing against absolutely insane teams every game. what is going on? I’m pretty mechanically good, got coaching from iOStux etc. and was told my aim/mechanics are GM no problem. But I deranked to PLAT and the people i am playing against just make no sense. Its like every single match the other team has a mercy pocketed OWL player. game is NOT fun WTH?? Like I watch these kill cams and i am just in awe of the shots these people hit. WIth a 360hz monitor i can barely understand what i am looking at. IN PLAT

Something sort of similar happened to me a few seasons back. I was plat and had a good win streak. Then suddenly I started seeing multiple master and GM role challengers all over the place in my games.
I lost about 90% of them and deranked into gold. I finally stopped caring and decided to try some new heroes while I was there. Only then was I finally permitted to play with my own rank again.
Yes this. Unfortunately Season 9 fixes won’t be focused on the underlying issue which is the matchmaking. Hopefully they match teams now as discussed. BUT more is needed:
- Match within play time
- Match within roles
- Match teams with teams
- Match within last 5-10 games performance (normalize to your team performance)
- Match team performance(s)
This should make matches more fair.
I agree. But queue times are way more important than match quality to Blizzard. It’s all about engagement as that’s what earns them more money. Unfortunately, they seem to want the FTP kiddies with the attention span of a goldfish, and are prepared to ruin the entire game to hang on to them.

looks like classic ow matchmaking 
cheaters. They just have soft aimbots, for e.g. wh/see your cooldowns, ultimates, have aimbot that shoot at intervals.

its super odd when it’s actually really obvious when you have that one genji who always knows where everyone is and can never be caught.
i dont think ive ever seen as much cheating as there is lately its mind blowing how nothing is done about it
I had a feeling this might be the case. I have seen some pretty advanced tech out there. Everyone thinks aimbots are super obvious when in reality most of them now are very humanized and nearly impossible to see without looking very closely… I really hope there is a breakthrough in technology that finally ousts the cheating problem so online competitive games can actually be legitimate.
doubt that. It’s a huge business, millions. If blizzard wanted they could stop cheating in a day. They do not care that much, since they profit from that.
Yes, only human eyes can notice that something is off. It comes with experience.

Smurfing is OUT OF CONTROL. The devs could implement a system to not only improve the legitimacy of the game, but improve the player experience vastly, but also reduce the toxicity. I just outlined it here, but they don’t ever seem to care about this stuff.
Are you queueing right now? For one, games are notoriously bad at the end of season. Lots of people play their placements in the last week of the season, these players are usually rusty / not the greatest and can make winning hard. As a result of the influx of casual players, a ton of the more dedicated players will avoid queueing on their main and will Smurf instead. End of season games are weird and I’d suggest never play them if you are genuinely trying to climb.
The last week of a season is usually pretty bad. It’s overrun by people doing their placement games before the season ends. So it’s often people on alt they never play on people who don’t play enough to actually be at their true rank, but just maintain themselves somewhere by just placing the account. Don’t look too much into it.
In like a week, things will be back to normal.

I bet it’s smurfs from the top ranks. Their queue times are terrible.
The DPS players I’m being paired with in comp seem as if they’ve never played before and I’m in mid gold. Their game sense is close to zero, can’t aim, and have scores like 10-16, 5-11, etc. Abysmal to play with, why are DPS players so bad in this game? They hardlock either bastian or rat and get almost no kills, refuse to switch, and one even complained that the “enemy hanzo was on a roof and I can’t get to it”.
Game is becoming unplayable in both comp and unranked. It doesn’t matter how well you do because the DPS players always seem to be horrendous. It wasn’t like this last year, I’m guessing a whole drove of noob kids picked the game up lately and all the decent players left.
Also, cheating is rampant. Even people with 20$+ paid skins are using cheats. It’s incredibly obvious and most seem to think they can get away with it because they’ll just turn them off every other game to avoid chain reports.
