i would say computer makes less errors than humans

well, if we look at hte low league, where matches have been stopped many times due ot equipment issues

you use equipments in normal sports too

that isn’t a good argument

and i am saying that a complex machine such as a computer, could mess up more often then…a bow, which off the top of my head is the most complex piece of equipment in the olympics

You do realize that basically every time-based sport already heavily relies on computers and sensors to decide who wins an event, right? It’s not like they’re sitting there with stopwatches.

They are really just arguing semantics. The goal of fencing is to touch the opponent with your foil. If instead they were using real swords, those touches would deal real damage. Conversely in shooters the goal (tdm) is to shoot the other team. If instead of using virtual guns they used real ones then shooting would deal real damage. If instead of death you were just “out” their argument is null. All I see is a person from a previous generation that doesn’t want the changes that the new generation wants.

and now you are putting more of them in a sport, so you are compunding the chances of something going wrong

there is a human behind the bow that can mess up more than a computer does

computers rarely break down and even if they did they would probably just pause the game while in sports you wouldn’t be allowed to get a pause

All in due time.

If you would have said 10 years ago that a video game tournament would be broadcasted on ESPN, people would think you’re crazy. It takes time for things to be accepted.

Though they do admittedly have a point with the whole violence aspect. The whole point of modern Olympics is to put aside national differences and all come together. Showcasing games where the objective is to kill each other for sport sorta does have a conflict of interests there.

as well as that even in events where you are literally fighting each other, the competitors have the utmost respect for each other

in most shooters theres no serious gore.

its more or less the same as boxing.

(if not even safer)

I think that violence by itself doesn’t necessarily make it not suitable.

Fencing, boxing, wrestling are all violent games.

What sets most videogames apart is either the use of firearms, or that the objective literally involves killing the opponent. If there are no firearms or death animations that resemble people dying, you can have a videogame-equivalent of those sports mentioned before.

Time for some Mario Party in the Olympics!

I don’t really have an opinion but I’d like to remind you that esports pretty much require you to stay healthy and fit because it’s proven that you just play better if you eat well and exercise regularly. Sure, it’s possible to be a pro and fat but it’s easier to perform well if you’re properly taking care of yourself. It’s not like olympic level, of course not, but the fact that you perform better if you’re healthy remains true for both esports and what you could call real sports.

Good, there is a line between E sports and an athletic meet. E sports are not sports, and have no business anywhere near the Olympics.

J OMEGALUL C K

jokes are cool, also his name is jake

No, screw that, skip the middle and go straight to Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games.

actually weak to all of the outlaws, most wholesome team NA

Seriously, does it even matter? I really don’t feel like this changes my view, opinion or excitement for either eSports or Olympics, so for me it doesn’t really matter, I will continue enjoying both.
