Well you don’t need a full wipe, just enough so they cannot realistically contest. An anti-healed hog still has 600hp and if you can make it out of the front door there’s lots of ways to avoid damage, and it forces your chaser(s) to move out of position to reclaim it.
With some good team coordination you can also keep people busy enough to keep attention off of you. I’ve been known to dive in, EMP, and walk out with the flag with the help of my team.
As much as I do enjoy CTF, no thank you. It’s hard enough to get a group that works together in normal CTF or even comp, but comp ctf would be a nightmare. You usually have people on defense who should be on attack, the only truly good thing about CTF is that even a decent Ana is great on flag defense and even if it’s attack, Tracer is terrible. While Wrecking Ball needs to stay the hell out of the enemy flag room because he’ll try to roll it out…Which drops the flag
Is that because it “disables” hero abilities?
Most recent CTF changes made it all about team fights (previous version relied on dedicated defenders against sombra/winston backcaps).
Speaking of abilities there is some inconsistency. For example moira drops the flag if she ults because her ult gives her increased movement speed. But brigitte doesnt drop it despite her ult also giving speed bonus. Same for genji, he’s faster when ulting but doesnt drop the flag.
Anyway, IMO CTF is a better / more fun version of control. Mostly because there is no fixed point. If flag itself is the problem then maybe some tug-of-war (like bidirectional payload) mode can be made and added in QP/comp rotation.
Just release a way to play only KOTH maps in the standard competitive. Those are the only maps who are balanced, cause they are specular. A lot of games let’s decide you what map play on, so i don’t see why don’t allow users to choose what they want to play.
I can see the queque times for 2CP maps going to stars, but the reality is no one want to play that style of maps in competitive, so no big deal.
if anything make the competitive button like the arcade one and have comp elim 3v3, 6v6, ctf, lucio ball, 1v1 and ffa alongside normal comp the whole year over
but please don’t mix arcade modes into the standard comp rotation
I believe a One Flag CTF mode could work very well in Comp. The problem with normal CTF as to why it wouldn’t work in comp is because there are 2 objectives so it splits up the teams. One Flag CTF solves that problem. One neutral flag in the center of the map that you have to bring to the enemy base. Could allow movement abilities to be used while carrying the flag since you have to go towards the enemy base and not away from it like in normal CTF. 6 minute games, 3 captures wins the game, still has sudden death on a tie. Comp would have 2 rounds of 6 minutes/3 captures with sudden death if necessary at the end of the 2 rounds.
Please no I hate that mode
Plus it sometimes doesn’t even require teamwork.
Just a sneaky person to go back and get the thing then run for their life back to their side of the map.
Oh yeah, I think Neutral Flag would be much better than Offense/Defense 1 Flag CTF. That would feel way too much like 2CP and that’s overall the least favorable gamemode of Overwatch.
