Cricket phone number means no OW2?

I had held out (unrealistic) hope that Blizzard would see the idiot path they were going down and change course. After all, the forums were littered with all sorts of variables showcasing the insanity of it all.

Such a draconian choice given all the unintended consequences popping up would surely merit a rethink before launch.

So a half hour ago I check, and yep, it still requires it, and nope it doesn’t accept my Cricket number, the same number I’ve had since 2005.

They indeed commenced ‘The Purge’.

Well, just remember, stop giving money to corporations that tell you they hate you.

Blizzard hates us, and that’s not a good long-term approach to customers.

Especially with all the economic turmoil ahead.

I am not switching carriers to play this game. Secondly, even if I had a post-paid phone number, I wouldn’t give provide it. No reason for a game company to have that information. Many different ways to prevent cheating if that was the intent…

I’ve had my AT&T provided phone number for 20 years, and ported it to Cricket. There is no other security system I have encountered online that cares what my provider is. The game I have played for 5 years is overnight become useless. Blizzard could care less, not like they haven’t known about this issue for years now and have done nothing about it. Taking my money elsewhere and spitefully trashing the ignorance of Blizzard wherever and whenever I can until they are run out of business.

Cheers

Not to mention regular overwatch no longer exists apparently so we cant even play base overwatch. At this point overwatch 2 should have been a separate game entirely.

Then it would have to compete. So if they take things in a direction people don’t want, they won’t migrate. Or migrate back.

That’s why they did it. They didn’t want to compete with themselves. Especially with OWL. Imagine them trying to promote an OWL based on #2 if the community ended up preferring #1.

So not only are they forcing the new game design decisions on us, but then stating some accounts are not worthy based on that account’s phone carrier. That’s what makes it really bad. It’s not the decision to pivot, it’s the decision to pivot and purge.

It really is insane they claim to be inclusive, and then do the most exclusive purge action any online game in history has done. One that deliberately hurts the poor, middle class, families, and frugal people the hardest.

But here we all are half the people here will still be dishing out their money to the company and playing COD and supporting them even though the whole entity doesn’t care.

I’m not sure why cricket would need to file for transfer for a different status when it would be easier for Blizzard to lift the restriction. This is typical Blizzard/Activision nonesense though.

MW2 beta had the same restriction
MW2 the game might too
Warzone 2 absolutely will, because at the very least all their F2P games are going to have this requirement.

Same boat here, this is absolutely wild BS. tbh I was on the brink of switching from Cricket to full AT&T but that wouldn’t matter would it if the number is permanently marked as prepaid right? I wouldn’t mind switching carriers if I was already thinking about it but im NOT changing my entire number. Goodbye OW, the years were decent, probably Blizz too forever i’d wager after this.

Blizzard loves it too. I bet they would love for all their devs to just volunteer. They hate paying people to work for them after all.

This is not completely true my brother and I are on the same Cricket account each with our number and his phone number went through but mine got flagged. I want to know how my brothers Cricket number was able to get accepted and mine was not.

Apparently some Cricket numbers may have originally been post-paid and still are recognized as such.

His number originated with Cricket. I would imagine if it originates with the service provider it should get labeled accordingly whether its prepaid or postpaid.

What a bunch of trash. Thought I’d give the new game a shot but I guess I should have known better. Absolute garbage game company. Guess I’ll ask for a refund.

you can use talkatone and send the sms there, it costs 1 dollar to access the texts though

Another screwed Cricket user here. I’ve been using Cricket for 3 or 4 years with no problems and I’m not scammed by companies like Verizon and ATT. So I get penalized for that here, apparently. What a dumb move by Blizz. It’s ok, they will receive a wealth of backlash this week considering how many people use this type of service. I was planning on immediately buying some kind of season pass or whatever was available, but imagine all the money they are losing because of this idiotic move.

And I can almost guarantee there will still be cheaters making their way into the game over and over again. None of this was very well thought out by Blizz, not surprisingly, considering the past few years.

I don’t know why, but my Cricket phone number works just fine and has for quite a while now. I assume that it has to do with which batch of recycled numbers you get, as in they might have come from some lesser carrier or something. Some people have tried to tell me that it’s because my account previously had a regular carrier (I used to have Verizon many years ago, as in like six or more years ago) but that was well before all the strict SMS protection stuff.

I don’t think it’s that. My number is 20 years old. As far as I know it started with Verizon, went to Ting, and then Cricket a few years ago. I guess it could have been recycled from a burner before Verizon, but that’s some crazy long history with zero problems until this if so.

Can’t believe there are this many people who use metro and cricket…on purpose. The people that I know that use those services always have spotty internet and cell service. I would never to that to myself on purpose.

Is this something they can change and eventually let cricket phone numbers to be used or something because it’s kinda stupid they wouldn’t let people play the game over a phone number
