Continually Getting "Lost Connection To Game Servers"

As the title says, I keep on losing connection to the servers. I am sure that it isn’t my internet and I haven’t received this error until the new update. Please help, as I have lost a lot of SR and received suspensions.

What troubleshooting have you done so far? First please start with these steps (including all advanced troubleshooting steps):

If nothing helps, lets investigate the connection route by running a WinMTR test:

WinMTR instructions:

  1. Download WinMTR from http://winmtr.net/download-winmtr/ (Console players need a Windows Desktop Computer connected to the same network as their console to do this.)
  2. Unzip the WinMTR.zip file to the Desktop.
  3. Open the WinMTR folder and select the 32 or 64 bit version. Choose whichever one corresponds to your version of Windows.
  4. Run the WinMTR.exe
  5. Type the IP address you want to trace in the “Host” field. To get the correct IP you will actually need to open up the game and go Practice Vs AI or Quick Play and if you are on PC hit Ctrl+Shift+N and it will bring up the ingame network diagnostic graph, or go to Video > Options > Display Network Performance Graph if you are on any platform including Console. In the top left corner is the IP address you want to run WinMTR to.

    note When looking at the IP it will show up ingame as something like 12.34.56.78:12345. You will want to leave the last 5 digits and the colon at the end off and the IP you want to use is just the 12.34.56.78
  6. Once you notice the connection issue while playing, play for about 6 more minutes, minimize the game and click on “Stop”.
  7. Click on “Copy text to clipboard”, then return to this forum thread.
  8. Type two sets of four squiggly lines and then paste the contents of the WinMTR test between: ~~~~ Paste WinMTR Test Results Here ~~~~

If in the event you can’t even connect to Overwatch and get into any game mode at all, please use one of the following IP addresses based on your geographical region:

  • US West - 24.105.30.129
  • US Central - 24.105.62.129
  • Brazil - 54.207.107.12
  • Europe - 185.60.114.159
  • Europe - 185.60.112.157
  • Korea - 211.234.110.1
  • Taiwan - 203.66.81.98

I haven’t received a connection issue at all during quick play. For some reason it seems as though it only occurs during comp games.

I assure you that the game mode is irrelevant. Are you using voice comms at all in Quick Play?

No, I don’t use comms during quick play

I lost over 100 sr and myself and my friends have been suspended for a grand total of 100+ hours combined because of this issue.

Yeah this is ridiculous. Because of these errors, I deranked from gold and hit low silver. They should give back our SR. Its unfair for people to lose so much SR just because of a bug/error. It’s not just a few people too. A lot of people are reporting the same exact error in the forums.

But you do in Competitive? Then in that case, may I suggest carefully going through this guide:

Unfortunately all disconnections and game crashes counts as leaving the match and will be penalized appropriately. The game server has no way to discern a legitimate disconnection or game crash from one that is forcefully caused by a dishonest player to bypass leaver penalties. You can learn about this policy here:

Disconnections are the most common type of technical malfunction in any online game. Despite this always popping up in the forums, unless I see dozens of posts pouring in at the same minute, I know that each person’s issues are likely to be unique from each other. Sadly for every person who disconnects or crashes, there are five more players that are more furious that their odds of winning a Competitive Match is reduced.

Now there are trending issues, such as the Southeast Asia undersea cable cuts, however Blizzard constantly monitors the Battle.net server network, and most network providers to track for any possible issues that could affect a large portion of our community. As such it is always better to track your own issues individually, not a bad idea to compare notes (such as similar ISPs, location, etc). But unfortunately it does not work to simply compare, “Hey everyone here complains about disconnections, it must be Blizzard’s fault.”

I cant get through a quick play match. I keep getting the same lost connection screen. Ive been playing other games all night and no problem. I know its not my connection.

Aussie server user here having same problem, getting massive lag spikes very couple of minutes and many disconnects (lost connection screen), hard to play the game with all this happening, other games working fine too.
made a post on it, got locked and put in southeast asia undersea cable cut tread.
Just annoying with the event on and all.

Hi everyone,
I’ve been getting connection issues usually when there is a new patch. I’ve had disconnects after instantly joining a comp game and sometimes randomly during qp and comp games. The random disconnects would happen at random times throughout the match. I would rubber band and could not move then I would be disconnected. I reset my modem, and range extender and nothing worked (or it would work for a bit then I would get the same issues). What I found out was that my modem was dual band and my receiver could connect to both. My solution: connect to just one. I had to change my network names (ssids) to networkname-2.4G and networkname-5G and just connected to the 5G one. I’m still testing everything on Overwatch but so far I have no issues.

I think when your modem switches between 2.4 to 5 bands automatically (at least my modem does) Overwatch sees this as a packet loss and disconnects you.

Hope this helps with connection issues and helps Blizzard find solutions for this issue.
