Connecting to the wrong server

I dont live in the us, but i usually connect to the servers in chicago, and i usually get good ping from there. but now after this June update, i’ve been getting major bumps from 80-90 in latency to 190-200. Is there anyone that knows how to help? I’ve noticed that i’m connecting to a server in sao paulo, which is weird too.

Are you in Costa Rica? Maybe it’s related to this? Cable Tica Costa Rica - Routed to incorrect server/High Latency

No i don’t live in Costa Rica, i’m from Aruba. But after the baptiste event update, i’ve been getting connected to South American servers, while before i was connecting to the servers in Chicago

Let’s look at a WinMTR to get more info:

WinMTR instructions (click to expand/collapse)

Follow the support documentation for WinMTR. If you’re unable to get into a game for the IP address, then use an IP from the table provided on that page that matches your region. Run the test until you encounter the issue again, or for at least 10 minutes.

Share your results in a reply:

  1. Click the “Copy Text to clipboard” button after you’ve finished the test per the instructions.
  2. Paste the text in a reply, then highlight the pasted text and click </> on the post editor.
  3. Break any links by adding a space before .com, .net, etc.

WinMTR v0.92 GPL V2 by Appnor MSP - Fully Managed Hosting & Cloud Provider

These were my results after playing a full game, and i also noticed, that after i play for a while, i start getting these random fps spikes where it goes down to 30 for 2 seconds and my game freezes for a second and then comes back, it makes this game super unplayable, right after it ends, i see my latency go up 30 and then go down, so im assuming these drops have something to do with my latency.

I’m not sure how your network is configured, or what your situation is, but I will say it’s unusual to see 5 private IPs (meaning ones that are in the home or building) unless you’re connecting from a hotel or university. Because with this config, the ping is spiking up to 125ms before it leaves your local connection (meaning: not the internet itself, just the devices/cables/signal). After that, it looks like Telia is responsible for how you’re being routed, and it looks like they have a mistake happening there. My only recommendation is to try to eliminate some of the devices between you and the actual signal, if possible, and also to forward these results to the ISP. Tell them you’re trying to connect to Chicago but their servers are routing you closer to South America.

10.0.0.3 is our home firewall, so that is the last local connection before the modem. Then it’s straight to our local ISP, so anything beyond 10.0.0.3 is beyond our network. Can you clarify what you mean by “Telia having something wrong happening?”

Edit: I also noticed that my connection is somehow better connecting to european servers, its barely playable, but somehow better than connecting to the supposed servers closer to me. I also noticed that it isnt Telia that’s routing me to Brazil, it’s Blizzard.

Look at ping on steps 10-13

Step 9 is Blizzard in Switzerland and for some reason it is sending me to the Netherlands (all the 137.x.x.x IPs are in the Netherlands) and then to the US Chicago server.
