Competitive tips

Here are a few I have experienced that are important on my climb to diamond.

  1. There are very few people in plat and below that actually play a good main tank. It is almost non existent. The dps get flamed alot, but so many tanks sit at the choke and do nothing. They just wait for the dps to go off with no help.

  2. Tanks also take a ridiculous amount of healing because they don’t understand the concept of playing defensively then are shocked when they die. You can’t just pocket them the entire time.

  3. If your soldier is struggling with a pharah mercy which they will, because pharah just does so much more damage then soldier. Switch to zen, Winston, dva to help.harrass her. He can not do it alone soldier just doesn’t have the damage output.

  4. Healers heal your dps and protect each other. Tanks peel for your supports. This one is very important. Zen needs help when dived upon as does mercy. They can’t just sit there and heal you with two people on them if you don’t turn around.

  5. Peel for your dps as well. Soldiers/widow get dived like crazy when they have the job of taking down a pharah or pharah mercy.

  6. Dps swap to counter more. Don’t keep playing junkrat reaper as a pharah destroys your team.

  7. Supports use your mics. If you are being dived tell us. You are the generals of the field as you can see more than the other roles of what’s developing around here being in the back line.

  8. Don’t play on weekends if you take your Sr seriously.

lol
i hope these tips can help me climb to gold

For more personalized tips for you. Don’t play hit scans unless you improve your aim. I play on console where it’s much harder to aim and your accuracy is worse then
mine. Your kd is very low. Try to work on just staying alive. Let your tanks get on point and you just take angles on it to get picks as dps or support your team as zen.

well in low rank like mine if rein can stop charg in blindly, monkey and diave can stop dive in blindly, illbe happy enough.

dude often i get gold elims and objective kills as zen i tried

Good post! #6 could use a whole post on it’s own!

You are not going to win them all. Just give your orb to the dumb monkey and hope for the best. I recommend improving your hit scan aim and playing soldier 76. You can carry yourself out just focus more on staying alive. Don’t play McCree. McCree can’t enable himself he needs to he enabled by your team and at your rank they can’t do that.

yeah you are right, i did play a lot of S76 but i always flex instead of one trick dps. cuz there are too many one tricks who wont switch at all. i fill as a healer most of the time. sadly. i got 6 golden weapons already ready to get more lul

wish i can duo with you someday
btw can i get more detailed tips to counter pharmercy?

there are a few ways to counter pharmercy, the basic idea is you need a hitscan (or semi hitscan) and some good team work
some of the ways:
the clasic soldier + zen + dva - discord mercy, soldier fires on her and dva uses her jumppacks to jump the mercy/phara and use her main fire and rockets to burst them down, keep in mind to dmatrix the phara rockets to keep the damage from falling on your team and keep main fire on mercy, as long as she gets damage even the smallest amount, she cant self heal
you can switch the zen to a mercy and damage boost your hitscan
you can use a mcree for more burst damage per hit, but you need better aim
you can also use widow or hanzo for this slot
ana is also an option but is risky as you cant really deal with the phara and heal your team and ana is a healer first and foremost
bastion is a strong pharmercy killer but you need good cover from your tanks and good heals
if you have amazing skills as phara you can go as a counter pharmercy and just kill the enemy team on the ground, the mercy will need to zigzag to keep the team alive or lose the fight.
sombra might be able to help if you get a hack on phara or the mercy and they will fall to the ground
these are some things i can think of from the top of my head, hope this helps

Cheers dude
Thx for the help

This post isn’t even really tips, it looks like you just complaining about different things and calling most main tanks in plat trash. You’re also stating the most obvious things, such as peeling and counter diving.

Which is also wierd, because when I made it to diamond, it was on the weekends.

The weekend tip is probably the most relevant on there. I stopped in s8

You would be surprised how many players don’t understand these concepts and because you reached a higher rank as well. You obviously understand these concepts.

Good job on the detailed post! I would suggest that anyone here who wants to improve also has a VOD review done for personalized tips. I do VOD reviews, however I am quite busy.

Something being obvious to some doesn’t make it obvious to the average player.

In fact, because these are tips that are obvious to some of us, but not to others, that means they should be easier to implement for someone who learns from them. That’s a good thing. Overwatch is a game that’s easy to pick up because it’s an FPS, but you only start to see how much value game sense has when you start climbing in rank. A lot of people in Bronze, Silver, and Gold would greatly benefit from being told what is obvious to higher ranks.

You’re right, I didn’t mean it as if I was an elitist or something. I just know all of these things and it gave off a bad vibe to me for some reason idk

#4 is the big one for me and the reason I quit playing zen. Too many times, my healing partner had absolutely no idea of the concept of healers supporting each other. I can’t count the number of times I’d be desperately fighting for my life against a flanker, draw out the fight with mad jukes while throwing balls around like a madman, end up dying and see on the kill cam that my mercy was standing right beside me the whole time, pocketing the full health Reinhardt who is standing there with his shield up.

Or how many times when I see someone preparing to dive me and mercy, throw a quick harmony orb on her and assume battle stance, prepared for the two of us to take down our foe… and as soon as the enemy dives, my mercy flies off to a different teammate, leaving me for dead… i am a very good duelist with zen and can easily take on flankers if I have even a SLIGHT amount of healing support from my partner (the reason i try to stick close by you the whole round isn’t because I like the way you smell!) but majority of the time, I get completely ignored by the other healer, which made zen just too frustrating to play, even though I enjoy his playstyle

I didn’t interpret it that way. When you see something you believe to be obvious, it’s understandable to believe everyone sees it that way as well.

It can be beneficial to have friends across different ranks, so you can really see it. I recently watched my friend play a game of Overwatch on stream. He used to be in Silver back in season 2, but hasn’t played since then. He decided to hop into a placement game recently, and while defending on Dorado, his team was spread out pretty much everywhere but the choke, attacking the enemy as soon as they left spawn.

any personalized tips for me? :stuck_out_tongue:

Play McCree. Git gud at everyone else.
