You need this. Matchmaking is fine. You choosing to play the wrong mode is the problem.

You can choose skill-based matchmaking

by playing in competitive. That is the primary focus of that mode. It exists so you can play with other players of your skill level. You wouldn’t think this would need to be announced, but it’s getting old reading the complaining about the matchmaker in quickplay, which is a mode primary focused on finding quick matches.
