So decided to play comp after passing up on a few of the seasons. Haven’t been on since 2 or 3. In the countdown stage of a match getting ready n all that, on kings row jumping around the statue of Mondatta whilst waiting for tanks to get setup.
Match starts and then 30 seconds into the match I disconnect from the match and Overwatch server, not from the internet or have any signs I disconnected from the wifi. I even had time to spam click the rejoin game button that was there with no luck.
So after having to close the game, re-open it and load back in I can’t rejoin the match to refill the spot that my team might have needed or at least attempt to get back in to help. I then learn it counts as a loss on my part and I can’t play for 9 minutes. What’s that all about? Why does it count as a loss?
I feel like it just shouldn’t count as a match played at all since I didn’t actually play. That and then give me a 9 minute ban making it out that I purposefully joined the match to disconnect and possibly cause my team a loss? Is there no way to be able to tell when I player disconnects from a game and when a player leaves a game? Can this get fixed in the future please?
disconnect/leave same same. No way to tell.
Just accept and move on. Happens to all of us.
Not really the same though is it. With one of them you have to click leave game, there is a process or command that causes you to leave game. The other is just something that’s not in your control at all yet you get punished for it and so does the team you got disconnected from by now having a 5V6 game.
Instead of easily accepting and moving on I would rather just see if anything can be done about it.
Could just turn my router off, unplug the cable, turn off wifi etc.
Same same.
There’s no way for Blizzard to tell if the disconnect is on the end of their servers or it’s because the person turned off their internet. They punish regardless to discourage people from disconnecting their routers in a losing game.
Yeah fair enough I guess, if you are that petty to not even try or stick to the end of what might be a dying match then I guess there isn’t much they can do.
Though still feel like they could look into it a little bit or perhaps keep tabs on disconnections? How they would go about doing I don’t really know, like recurring disconnections then counting it as a loss and a ban would still be better than a one off disconnect counting as a loss and a ban.
playing comp on wifi is gg. wifi is for hearthstone

Nothing wrong with modern day wifi. That statement shows complete lack of knowledge.
It’s still a bugger of a situation for those who want to actually have a go at comp and stick it through. I was wanting to get back into that match to get my place back and finish the match I queued up for. They could look into making it so you couldn’t join any other match until that one had finished, which if the player didn’t join then it would count as a loss and get the ban.
Fatfatty is correct that there is no way to determine if a connection is dropped due to legitimate technical problems for any reason, or if a player unplugs a router, wireless adapter, ethernet cable, modem, etc to fake the appearance of a disconnection.
Penalties do start small at only 10 minute suspensions as a way to get a person with a one-time incident to stop and investigate their problems before they are allowed to continue, however, penalties will escalate quickly if a player is ignorant of any technical issues or is a serial leaver. A person can get a season ban in as little as six leaves. Of course, a player can work their way back into “good standing” and reduce suspension times for future incidents by showing a good habit of completing a high majority of their matches.
While WiFi has improved over the last decade, it is still a form of radio transmission and is highly prone to any and all forms of radio interference, including high-voltage electrical appliances or tools, microwave ovens, radio and television antenna transmissions and more. Furthermore, connecting by ethernet does typically get a player slightly ping rate (by a few milliseconds).
You probably couldn’t join the game because it was canceled, so nobody had to play a lost game, and lose Sr (exept you, unfortunately).
You know how it is with people here. They think the only way you can be playing comp is if you are sitting right next to the connection almost plugged into the wall. People can’t accept that some people don’t have that luxury. And even then, it just might not be their connection.
