Community Update - 2022 in-game events (retail)

Recycled events… 20 chars long

And you say that this trash is good?

I guess I just don’t understand why they had to cancel the actual events? Like I don’t even care about whether there were new skins or not, they could’ve still done this “skin re-mix” but still let us have the archives modes for the 3 weeks. And summer games?? Like no Copa Lucioball?? I kinda needed that to bank some easy golden weapon points. And those things don’t really seem like they need a whole lot of developer input, they’re all modes that exist and they just need to flip the switch on to allow us access.

I’m just really confused as to why do it this way.

I’ll assume by your account level (please correct me if I’m wrong) that you haven’t played OW since the start or anywhere close to the start. So let me try to give you an idea of what it was like at the beginning. I hope it will help with the perspective.

At the beginning we would get a new event every 2-3 months. That new event included a double-digit number of new skins, most of them legendary. A new and exciting game mode. PvE content. Actual lore and story.

Just try to imagine it. OW releases May 2016. Soon after that you get the summer games which adds a whole new level of excitement on top of an already exciting fresh game. You enjoy that to the fullest. You even play Lucio Ball as your main game mode.

Then the event ends, but come October you get surprised with the Halloween event. Back then there wasn’t a schedule. You get an update and - boom - event. Again new skins. A PvE mode - we didn’t have that before! (Training against bots doesn’t count.) Then winter wonderland, again, new game mode in addition to a whole bunch of new skins. When we reached Archives we actually got new lore related PvE game modes. The reason this event was the favourite for most people is it’s the only one that kept getting all new content for three years in a row.

But now it’s 2022. And yeah, imagine that - people really don’t want to play Lucio Ball for the 6th year in a row. Ludicrous, I know!

People have made their minds plenty well. There is nothing to play about a remix event. Nothing in it you can actually play. It’s been the direction Blizz had adopted for all of their events for the past three years. So yeah, the players have good reason to be unhappy.

As someone who waits all year to play Archives, I am extremely upset and disappointed right now. Could you not have waited until after the event to do whatever this is??? Why does this have to affect Archives? 2 days of archives instead of 3 weeks. I love this game to death, but this truly saddens me.

“Instead of just recycling events, this year we’ve decided to also recycle skins”

You mean like how we’ve had no new heroes or reals maps since echo?

Same here, I just wanted to play the Archives modes for more than just a couple of days. They are fun and relaxing PvE modes

This year I planned on grinding the heck out of Archives with my friends. Turns out it’s only for 2 days and both days I am busy. Way to go.

Please understand, Blizzard is a small indie game company with extremely limited resources. This concept took an intern 15 minutes to come up with, and an entire afternoon to make the skins. I’m not sure what more you could ask for. This clearly would have taken other small indie game devs at least 3 unpaid interns and twice as much development time to make something of similar scale and content.

Oh wow! Wasn’t expecting this, I personally like the decision to do it. There are many weekly challenges that I couldn’t complete in the past for skins I liked so I’m happy there is a way for me and others to get them now.

New tweet:

Will our in-game coins transfer to OW2 or should I buy everything possible now? ):

I have in fact played since beta. Problem is I used to play on Xbox but switched to PC years later.

Anyway, I get your point. There are no new cosmetics and nothing new to play. So what? At this point, people who keep playing the game play it because they enjoy it. We certainly know we’ll have no relevant new content anytime soon until OW2 comes out. The only relevant things we’ve had in the latest events are a couple of cool skins. We’ll have skins again this time, recolors, but skins still. And you’re still able to play the Archives missions on a rotation. Nothing new, you may say, but you’ll still have the recolored skins to get.

Relevant content will come when OW2 finally comes out, and they can do things right this time around, and they have promissed they will keep the game alive and going.

I don’t expect a lot from OW at this point, I play it because I like it and enjoy it. I’m eagerly waiting for the sequel, hoping they will know how to maintain the game in a good state. But asking for relevant content or skins or game modes at this point just seems pointless.
