Can't play in America region

I am from the EU! I used to play in America servers. Now i can’t anymore in the America region despite of changing the region. What is the problem? explain please.

With the introduction to Global Play which is part of the Cross-Play update, the matchmaker will select the best possible server based on your skill rating and ping rate.

Today’s Global Battle.net update has caused some confusion in the community about region locking and swapping, so let’s take a moment to provide some clarity about details that might not be immediately clear:

Why can’t I swap regions anymore?

The simple answer is, you are placed into the best match based on a variety of factors including player skill and ping. Getting more technical, it’s because the regions themselves no longer exist (at least not in the way players traditionally understand them), so there is no region to swap to.

But my friends all play in a different region than I do!

You’ll still be able to play with your friends in other regions. In the case that you’re in a party, our systems work to place you in games with the lowest ping and best skill level for you or your party. These changes are aimed at ensuring that queue times are minimized and that the average ping is relatively low.

Outside of gameplay, some have noted that General chat contains players from all regions. Global chat is no longer locked to a particular region, meaning that you can see messages from players in other regions. However, this has no bearing on who you are matched with in games.

All that said, we’re currently tracking and communicating feedback that there are certain instances where the ability to change your region manually feels necessary. This feedback will be helpful as the design team prioritizes improvements and future development of the Global Play functionality.

We have made a configuration change recently (post-release) that should greatly reduce the frequency of getting into matches with high ping. Many of the reports we’ve seen today of players getting into mismatched regions have been at incredibly high MMR as the system expands its parameters to find a fair match. We’ll continue to keep an eye on this and making adjustments as needed.

In the case i am in a party? But i don’t have friends from US regions! This is really disappointing. One of the reason why i am still playing Overwatch is to get away from my own space and “visit” people from different regions, now you successfully destroyed the hope. Should have some kinda in-game achievement - Get 100 disappointments from Blizzard.

I play in the early hours(2-5am) due to my work hours. I am not getting any games and the wait times are terrible in Europe. I used to play in Americas to get a game as they are 6 hours behind me. Now I cant.

This has literally ruined Overwatch for me.

I’m from Argentina. My best friend moved to Ireland a few years ago , and Overwatch was the way we had to keep in touch and do stuff together. It´s been months now since we last played. One of us started getting 250ms and the other 20ms (depending if we were in an America’s server or a Europe one). Now you can’t choose the US East server that gave us 100ms each (totally playable)

What is the issue with people choosing where to play ?

This sucks, I am in Europe and I play with my friends in NA, but the thing is they hate playing on high ping whereas I don’t mind, but when I duo with them, the matchmaking ALWAYS picks my European servers, so now they don’t want to play with me unless its a party of 3. We should be able to choose which one of us will deal with the ping. This is awful.

i cannot even get any matches at all in role q as support, and they say their servers are fine… like ZERO MATCHES
