Can't connect on 2.4GHZ WiFi, but can on 5ghz

Hi All,

Over the past few days i’ve slowly been unable to play overwatch on my 2.4ghz wifi despite having strong signal strength. However, it works fine on my 5Ghz connection. When using the 2.4Ghz connection I either get extremely high ping and packet loss and then lose connection to the game server, or I cannot connect at all. I’ve tested overwatch on a laptop with 2.4ghz connection and it works perfectly.

I’ve done majority of the troubleshooting steps already - updated drivers, flushed dns, renewed IP address, reset network, checked firewall, etc. Not sure what the problem is. I don’t think it’s a problem with my wifi adapter as it works perfectly fine when downloading or streaming stuff. Here’s the Looking Glass results:

Not sure I understand this issue… why is 5Ghz unacceptable?

It’s not that 5Ghz is unacceptable - i’m just wondering why my 2.4Ghz one was working a few days ago, but not anymore.

It could be that your network card is malfunctioning, like an antenna is dying. It’s not affecting Overwatch though?

I can’t play overwatch on the 2.4Ghz, and i’m not sure if it’s malfunctioning because it works fine in every other situation? It’s also <3months old. Is there any way I could test this?

It could be something on the router blocking it for your local IP address/MAC addresss, but this is something likely best addressed by your ISP, especially since you can access Overwatch perfectly on the 5Ghz. It’ll work fine usually downloading stuff because it will keep re-transmitting packets that are lost, since web browser data and such will use a TCP protocol to send packets. Overwatch uses UDP protocol to send/receive packets and if packets are lost, it does not resend.

Try resetting your router to default settings. Then use an App like WiFi analyzer (Can download on Windows/Android) to see how congested your 2.4ghz channel is. Pick a channel on either 1 or 6 or 11 and leave it at that.

If your Laptop is still playing perfectly at 2.4ghz but your main Overwatch computer is not, then the fault is most likely your wireless card in your main PC.
