Can you play d.va in this meta

In theory - yes, I agree. But Zarya can’t be everywhere at the same time and the enemy team is normally not standing on top of each other.
It’s a challenge to find the right spot to be effective and protected, but Dva has enough mobility to change positions and be constantly on that hunt.

DM lats 2 seconds.
Storm arrows lasts 6 seconds.
You do the math.

How exactly do you suggest Dva bait storm arrows when it lasts 3 times longer than DM.

As a d.va main, I am having fun playing brigitte this season.
D.va can be useful to get rid of anoying hanzos and widows that seems to be popping up so often recently.

If they’re running Moira or Ana yeah.
Eating orbs and Ana’s healing hurts a tank composition a lot.

I’m a D.Va main with somewhere around 300+ hours on her. I’ve played her since season 3.

I lost 8 of my 10 placement games in competitive this season trying to do the same old D.Va thing i’ve done in the past. I didn’t one trick…and I even was forced to switch quite a few times out of frustration and desire to help my team.

Short answer is no…you can’t really be effective with D.Va in this meta. Everything she does is countered by the Brigette comp. Assuming the enemy team aren’t all playing random picks with no communication…the Brigette deathball comps just wreck D.Va the entire game.

Even Hanzo…who was one of D.Va’s best targets in the past…has gotten a buff to his kit that renders D.Va quite ineffective against him! His storm arrows can outright melt D.Va in a matter of seconds.

D.Va right now is in a very low point. She cannot dive on low hp heroes because she will get stunned or waste her time when Brigette shields them and renders the dive useless. Meanwhile, she cannot play back with her team either, because 2 seconds of DM isn’t enough to prevent all the damage from Hanzo arrows and constant dps damage in the front lines. Not to mention, I keep ending up in situations where I think our team has won an engagement and somehow Brigette rallies and the engagement turns in the enemies favor even though they have a disadvantage in numbers. (This reminds me of back when Mercy would just fly in and rez her entire team before she was nerfed and changed entirely!)

90% of my games as D.Va against the typical Brigette comp just consist of me trying to prevent my teammates from get steamrolled until i’m the final one alive…putting me in a 1v6 situation where I basically either fly back to spawn to regroup with teammates or attempt to fly back and get stunned out of my boosters and die in .2 seconds flat.

This IS NOT the season for D.Va. Honestly it’s just not the season for tanks in general. It’s rather terrible that they nerfed the absolute crap out of D.Va right before this meta hit because even without her nerfs, she’d be struggling in the current situation with Brigette and Hanzo running rampant.

D.Va is just lacking overall at the moment…I think blizzard wanted to please all the non meta heroes this season…and now we have a very unfun experience overall for all the players that put in time to be better players. It’s not about being good at a hero anymore…even some of the overwatch youtube channels have been discussing this!

While D.va may still take out Hanzo, his wall climb and double jump helps him out maneuver D.va, who walks slow while firing and only has boosters on 5 second cooldown.

Using ledges and mobility it is easy for Hanzo to demech d.va, and even if she kills him she usually won’t have much health left and dm would be depleted. It’s kinda sad actually.

I can’t play her in this meta. If I get too much into dive mode I’ll misstep and get CC’d and crit to hell and back. It’s fine that she isn’t meta anymore, but her uses are slim :frowning:

She’s still the third best tank in the game… if that means anything. Poor Hog and Winston got hard nerfed this season because of Baguette, and Orisa is still the same situational tank. It’s basically all Rein and Zarya right now, what a boring af meta.

In any case D.Va can still work just fine, or at least I’ve been doing fine with her anyway. You have to play a lot more cautiously now tho with all the stuns and Zaryas and Handsoaps in the game.

Basically it’s less about dive now and more about peel and harassing. Help whatever teammate needs help and support your main tank. If your team needs to push forward you can shoot the enemy from the flank/high ground to get their attention, creating space for you team. Only ever dive isolated targets or you’ll get stunned and wrecked.

She’s basically unplayable because any game without Reinhardt, Zarya, Brigitte and Hanzo is effectively throwing.

I’ve seen people on streams on GM and above rating run mostly Dragonsurge compositions… but I’ve also watched people like sabyeolbe and bdosin’s teams still run dive comps on maps like anubis, gibraltar and hanamura. Players like Fate and Mano ran with winstons too.

Dragonsurge comps might be easier to execute now than dive comps for players like Emongg who currently play in the 4,2-4,3k bracket, but for the pros I watched that hang around in the 4,5k bracket they still ran dive tanks with snipers, brigitte and sbb was not shy about playing tracer versus enemy brigittes when he can literally dance around them and brigitte’s lack of range is her shortcoming.

Then dive was also ran against opposing dive and I don’t think they played dive versus the “meta dragonsurge” compositons. I somehow doubt Dva can survive against enemy zaryas and brigittes and the major strenghts of dive are still nullified by dragonsurge meta. However Hanzo is so strong he is played in every single team composition, he’s a must have dps unless you have top 500 widow player who can click heads.

So it would come down to:
maps with verticality
can your team counter enemy brigitte efficiently
can your team coordinate dive enough and better than enemy team
what composition does your enemy team play

Dva works really well with rein. Just play her more defensively.
