Can we Talk About Baptiste for a Sec?

I like the new skin, Blade is a sucky movie but the character is cool and actually fits Baptiste a lot. Looks great with the Close Up high light intro too.

I’m still in love with Wasteland tho. Love that skin.

You’re not wrong but I think that is really unlikely to happen compared to making Regen Burst charge two seconds sooner.
(Just you wait though, if they do actually buff Baptiste, I’m half expecting them to nerf him overall in the process).

But yeah, Amp Matrix is basically just as niche and low rated as Baptiste himself is, which is really sad because Baptiste could have been the Sigma of supports.

He is one of my favorite Supports and I aree he needs a buff. I mean the last IF nerf was ridiculous. If they want to keep IF this way, OK, at least buff his Regenerative Burst to compensate.

His hitbox is far too big IMO. Reducing its size and making it a bit closer to the size of other Supports’ hitboxes could be a fair buff as well.

Its as big as Tracer’s.

Orisa and bastion wants to have a word with you

The problem is the classic “blizzard designed another character that CANT be good, without making him brokenly OP”.

If his gun was actually good, he would literally be the best dps character. Self heal AND immortality field for a guy that has a good gun? You would HAVE to play him every game. But giving him a bad gun makes him unfun to play as, so noone picks him

I didnt even know it was meant to be an homage to blade… wheres his sunglasses? How can you have blade with no sunglasses? Come on, blizzard :weary:

All of Orisa’s skins are pretty good, her issue is that nobody has ever wanted to be a robot horse thing, they want to be knights, cowboys, and angels.

Bastion has even better skins.

I like Baptiste’s gun I just don’t think it justifies how weak the rest of his kit is so the potential “but he has a gun” reasoning doesn’t make sense to me in the wake of Biotic Nade having a 10 second cooldown compared to Regen Burst’s 15.

Its worth it, gotta let Baps rock those vampire eyes, especially for the highlight intro I mentioned earlier.

In terms of healing output, he’s in a really good place and competes with Moira, and Mercy in pure healing output. He’s overall cooldowns are in a good spot and after some tweaks to Immortality Field, still feels pretty good.

Amplification Matrix, however, does not feel like it’s a good ultimate. It apes too much like Orisa’s and Mercy’s (especially with Valkyrie), but lacks the flexibility of both, despite the increases in healing output. When it works, it works almost too well, and it when it doesn’t, it’s practically not worth the charge.

His LMB, could be better, it’s pretty much unwieldly and doesn’t operate at all like a 3-round burst rifle from other FPSes. I get the reasoning why it’s built that for learning and difficulty purposes, but it doesn’t feel good.

Pretty much everyone hates it lol. Poor devs even redesigned it’s appearence twice in a week to try to make it better to use. It didn’t help XD.

It makes me miss my scout rifle from Destiny 2, now THAT was a fun three round burst. I’d never even seen or used anything like it before, but I fell in love with it.

Baptiste’s gun is kinda a let down, but he is a support so I definitely am not asking for him to be a better hitscan than Soldier 76 or anything.

I think he’s one pf the most balanced healers atm. He’s fine.

Is it, though? His gun is dumb good for what it does, even compared to real DPS picks. You have a much better chance of confirming kills with Baptiste than anyone else in the support category, because he has high precision, moderate DPS hitscan damage that doesn’t cost him anything to throw down range.

Enemy’s low? Zen might miss him with orb travel time, Ana may have to choose between healing the tank or trying to squeeze a shot past a teammate to lock in the kill. Baptiste just shoots the guy and puts him back in spawn.

I don’t think it’s even that he necessarily needs a buff, but rather that he’s just a boring support to be honest, and others do a better job compared to him hence his low pick rate (not factoring in the fact that he’s the newest support)

Especially now, in double barrier, I’d argue that he’s rendered useless as his only unique point is the immortality field, which would give little value as the two shields support each other already. Though I think his ult needs a rework or a change, as that ult is really situational and rarely gives any impact to gameplay.

Not with that recoil, and Ana doesn’t have to worry about range, and her shots are hitscan if she scopes.

Shooting it as you heal an ally to simultaneously hit a barrier is an underrated strat but other otherwise, you have to balance healing and damage like Ana or Moira.

I like him, I’d rather lob healing nades than use a dart gun. I just think that, like you said, others do his job better. Ana in particular does his job a lot better.

Plus, Immortality Field is pretty overrated by now. It was at its best back before the global ult charge nerf because it was great at a time when you could expect tons of ults being thrown around for it to block. Now its more niche and flat out weaker because of a nerf.

If Baptiste actually had a reliable ult I think his kit would come together. As it is, its like every part of his kit has so many restrictions that its all just super weak, oops, I mean “niche.”

Except Ana is still more dominant at higher sr so… maybe go whine on comp overwatch reddit.

Ish. He’s my goto support when we need a main healer…provided they aren’t running Doom. Admittedly I’m a Sombra main, so like every other gun feels like a rediculous killing machine, but it’s honestly really solid for a support.

75hp a burst body, with 2 bursts a second, only 50% 20-40m falloff, hitscan with crit potential, AND firing doesn’t slow down his healing shots. Plus he’s got a respectable magazine size for both and reload handles both sides.

His shieldbreak is meh, and aim and recoil are a bit tricky, but there’s literally no downside to just firing away while you are healing a tank in front of you. Plus with how generous friendly fire is on tank sized hitboxes, you have a ton of wiggle room to aim your damage precisely and still keep your front line catching nades.

Oh cool, we’re actually kinda the same but I come from the tank role instead of dps.

I think that this is cool about Baptiste but overall, it doesn’t really help. Baptiste’s gun has upsides but its recoil and his low fire rate mean that Ana’s shots can be just as effect at, say, finishing off enemies or pressuring them.

Its like a side grade situation to me instead of an upgrade, and that’d be fine, except that Baptiste doesn’t really have anything else going for him either.

Please yes, I’ve been begging for this since day 1.

Another thing I’ve been begging for since Day 1! I think that they were so scared that his IF was going to be broken that they made the rest of his kit weak.

God, I would give up my kidney to have that bloody ult reworked.

The trivially easy to control recoil that only has a vertical component and is functionally a laser pointer of bullets? That recoil?

If it was trivial than Baptiste wouldn’t even have it. Its something he has to deal with that other hitscans don’t and it works against the whole point of being hitscan: precision.

If you actually want true hitscan as a support, you can scope in as Ana.

Not that Baptiste’s gun is useless or anything, my point was only that its not significantly better than what Ana or Moira have. It doesn’t make Baptiste less niche or over shadowed.
