Now that Mercy, Symmetra x3, Hanzo, D.Va, Sombra, and minorly Reaper have all been reworked can we keep the abilities in the game consistent?
At this point I somewhat dread patch notes because I fear who may be getting the rework treatment, and how re-learning counters and playing as heroes will have to happen.
No. We must rework all the heroes. Turn Bastion into a barrier tank. Make Junkrat a healer. Turn Zenyatta into a teleporting flanker. Geoff shall not rest until every hero has at least one new ability that shakes up the game for 3+ months.
All these reworks is the main reason this game is NOT ready for eSports. The game is practically in beta still, with the big changes made to heroes, with more on the horizon. :/
Did I miss something? I don’t think they ever reworked Reaper, they just gave him QoL changes.
Also, at this point I really hope they DON’T rework Reaper. My faith in the balancing team is long gone, and the last thing I need is for Reaper to deal 500% more damage on Death Blossom and wraith form removed for balancing reasons
Exactly. Major reworks are okay in other esports because they have 100+ heroes to balance out having one completely changed. When a game is barely out of the gate, with less than 30, a major change to a character completely sledgehammers the rest of the game.
I considered the changes to his soul orbs and wraith form fairly significant in how he was played, which is why I said it was a minor “rework” of a hero.
And don’t be silly, we all know if Reaper got reworked his Death Blossom would be put on E or Shift and it would do one “burst” of shotgun blasts in all directions, and be completely busted.
not only do reworks keep the game fresh but sometimes they are really needed when a hero’s current kit is unbalancable or the devs aren’t happy with their play style they most likely get a rework but hopefully new heroes from now on don’t get reworked in the near future besides sombra no hero that got released after the game’s launch got reworked so they are learning how to not back a hero into a corner so they have to get reworked
This is why I’m glad I played WoW. I know all of Blizz’s tricks, and “balance”. Hi-Rez is a fraction of the size of Blizz, and routinely shows them up. Faster balancing, faster hero releases, faster map development. $2 BILLION dollars in revenue, and yet to the outside observer it would appear Blizzard is barely interested outside of OWL.
It honestly just complicates things. One of the reasons I liked Overwatch when it came out was because every ability was distinct, easy to learn, and you knew what was happening when you heard “Heroes Never Die!” Or “Its High Noon…”
Now I have to take a second and think about if the line I just heard is on a reworked Mercy, a new Symmetra, or whatever it may be.
Sombra hasn’t actually been reworked because nothing fundamental about her kit has ever changed. No new abilites given=no rework. Mercy got Valk+Rez. Hanzo got Lunge+Storm. DVa got Micromissiles. Symm got her ult changed multiple times. Sombra didn’t get anything like that.
