Except with Storm Arrows Hanzo is very effective at long range because he can spam in a direction and get easy picks.
Plz blizzard…
Im tired of those multirole heros.
It’s fine to have a multirole hero as long as they have clear weaknesses. E.g. 76 has good range, but it’s not great and his accuracy suffers. He also has good dmg up close but not on the level of real brawlers and doesn’t have much burst potential. Same goes for Zen, good and versatile heals with a low output and good dmg but its slow and requires good aim. This is good multirole where you do multiple things well but not great or with clear weaknesses.
Hanzo is a problem as he is a sniper who is better at mid range than long range, also has a mid range ult and is highly effective up close. The weakest part of his kit as the multirole sniper is the sniper parts, that’s a problem.
So, I’m not mad, but let’s not put words in my mouth. On my end, let me clarify.
By “subverting design philosophy”, I’m not just assuming Hanzo will or should instantly blow up because he’s a divee and I’m Winston (in this example I am, anyway). One of the things I like about this game is that while there are counters and preferred matchups, anything can happen on the battlefield.
With Hanzo though, he too reliably counters what should in fact counter him. Snipers are, in design, targets of dive because they excel mainly at long range insta-kills. Their trade off is that if you get in their face, they kind of go down because they don’t handle being bum rushed so well. Hanzo does though, because with storm arrow, not only does he have the power to get those long range one-shots, he can hold his own up close and personal because he can also go bambambambambam, which in my opinion, is not something a sniper should do.
And yes, I agree that Winston shouldn’t just be able to get a guaranteed kill on any squishy he jumps on. That would also be unhealthy for the game.
So then why can’t you just jump on Hanzo and kite around your bubble while he retreats?
Yeah i can accep multirole heros like soldier because he have everything but is not good in these things. Not like hanzo.
Kiting hanzo with winston is a suicidal mission in the first place becoz u are going in the face of someone CAPABLE of killing you without any help from a teammate. The value of kite is near to none if hanzo didnt die bacause he can immediately get back to position the moment winston retreats. The risk is too high for such a low reward. This is too opressive in hanzo’s favour.
Armor nerf made every tank living in hell, plus DM overnerf.
But the point of the picture is that I didn’t peek Hanzo, the arrow curved around the corner to hit me. And he’s not OP, he’s overtuned. He just does too much too easily, he’s way too versatile.
I wouldn’t do anything drastic with him. Most everyone in this thread is simply asking him to be less frustrating to play against. Honestly, he just needs small tweaks like reverting his arrow speed buff or increasing his lunge cooldown by another second.
But I seriously doubt there will be changes because of his current stats.
Then you realize widow has less effective cooldown between shots than Hanzo lol.
They may be “small” when considering thickness, but when you consider the length of the arrow and the fact that any contact with said arrow will register as a hit it becomes obvious that the projectile is much larger than Blizzard’s attempts to downplay its size.
Don’t forget that Hanzo’s weapon is very quiet and you won’t hear it at all if there are too many threats in your immediate vicinity
Anyone against a Hanzo has litterly no outplay. Thats why he is oppresive. You are in a position and your dead. No warning, no sound, no counter play…just dead. You cant go “Hay let me re-position towards the healers” or “let me find cover”. Just dead. You cant go aggro on him, you cant run, you cant even counter play, your dead. He has no hard counters and all his soft counters are very soft with his harddest counter a 6/4 at most.
The arrow turned the corner in the picture and hit you? Do you have a video to back that up because unfortunately a picture doesnt show anything sorry.
If I were in charge of Hanzo’s rework, he would have his Sonic Arrow still, but Storm arrow would be removed, as would his lunge ability. Instead, he would have a Poison Arrow, a Flame Arrow, and a Smoke Arrow.
Poison Arrow obviously would deal a low damage over time for so many seconds, likely equivalent to one of Sym’s turrets.
Flame Arrow would set a hero or location on fire for so many seconds, and anything that comes in contact with that hero or area also catches fire. Any heroes on fire receive damage over time.
Smoke Arrow would have either a smoke grenade effect, being used to conceal an area for escaping or gaining tactical advantage and it would have a tear gas effect for any enemies that walked into the smoke area, blurring their vision slightly.
BOOM! Now Hanzo still has the ability to headshot heroes with skillful precision, but he doesn’t have his cheap spam ability, instead he has 3 new arrows that fit his ninja archer kit better and give him exponentially better utility and team play viability. People will no longer gripe about you picking Hanzo, because you could noticeably engage.
Try to flank Hanzo, try to flank Hanzo while there’s also a team.
Yeah he’s honestly a killing machine.
And he never was weak, except, he used to require a lot of practice. Now it isn’t a necessity, those who were really good at Hanzo are having the time of their life, and others just have a kit solid enough to wreck you even if they’re average/bad.
Give Widow a storm of half-charged-scoped shots, people would’ve called it outrageous already. But Hanzo? Somehow got under the radar.
To be honest, the projectile buff was not exactly needed or it was buff a bit too much, and it caught everyone off-guard because no one asked for it, not even Hanzo mains at the time. Geoff actually regrets that buff, but it’s a little too late to revert it now.
It’s a screenshot from a shadowplay highlight, hopefully I still have the video but I’m at school right now so I can’t check.
In the picture I was backing up, so I’m assuming the edge of the projectile hitbox and the edge of my hitbox just barely touched each other on the Hanzo’s screen, plus the delay from ping and the whole favor the shooter thing made this happen.
Hanzo and Widow shouldn’t be able to one shot the 250 HP DPS heroes outside of getting a damage boost (Mercy, Ana, Zen, Orisa). Since the 250 HP heroes are nearly all close range fighters (Doomfist, Reaper, Mei, Brig, Torb) they are already at a range disadvantage when engaging compared to the mid-long heroes. Shadow-Stepping up to a widow perch, taking the hit, but surviving with 50 health and chasing Widow/Hanzo away should be a viable tactic to suppress the snipers. The heavy brawlers not surviving the snipers despite having extra health feels a little off and you wonder what the point is if the 200 HP characters vastly out-range them.
As it is, even dive tanks aren’t overly good at suppressing the sniper heroes. So we are back to Widow being the best way to suppress an enemy Widow and Hanzo being a hard target at all ranges.
What exactly do you think the result of solo diving Hanzo as Winston should be?
