Can we have more "Pure Evil" villains?

Blizzard doesn’t let you play pure evil characters anymore. Have you played WOW “which story comes from the previous Warcraft games”? Well Iv’e heard Sylvanas does some wicked things in the newest expansion but the rest of the horde doesn’t go along. I miss the old Horde “ie WC 2”.

i mean…its not really that “Realistic” to have pure evil villains, Your not evil because you just are, theres almost always a reasonl

I mean, Diablo has been a playable character in Heroes of the Storm since its alpha. Good luck finding a redeemable quality about him.

Well, again, Diablo disagrees. He was born evil, he’s been evil for untold millennia, and he’s never once questioned his own morality or motives. He couldn’t stop doing evil things if he wanted to, and he never, ever wants to stop.

Besides, Overwatch has never been big on realism.

Oh yea forgot about HOTS. That’s true

But WHY tho,

there has to be a reason Why you are evil, im not saying that it was to be something beliveable or something that you cna relate to,but atleast something like “my mouse died when i was 4 and thus u all gotta die” anything

Overwatch is a colourful and overall lighthearted game. It makes sense that their villains are made with some kind of redeeming or appealing factors in one way or another.

Well, for Diablo, the answer is “I’m a demon, I’m the Aspect of Terror, I feed on fear, I deeply enjoy feeding on fear, I hate angels, I want to destroy Heaven and I want to turn the entire universe into the Realm of Terror”. It really doesn’t go any deeper than that.

Well, look at the Joker. To quote Alfred, “Some men aren’t looking for anything logical, like money. They can’t be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn”. There is nothing sympathetic about the Joker’s character. He doesn’t even have a backstory; when asked about his past, his story is different from one moment to the next. Yet he’s a beloved villain, and he’s been the Batman’s nemesis for almost a century now.

A character doesn’t need to be relatable or sympathetic to be entertaining.

If you want “pure evil” look towards the stars. An alien infection based character would do the trick.

No jokes about Mei being an evil villain yet?
C’mon guys…

That is a possibility, but if it’s a faceless alien threat it might be too similar to the omniums that instigated the Omnic Crisis. It might be better to explore the omniums if we want to go that route. We could explore (and give characterization to) the omnics that are attacking Russia or South Korea in the post-Overwatch era. Or we could take a look at the leader of Null Sector (the Omnic terrorists in Uprising).

Mei was an Overwatch scientist, and Brigitte went with Reinhardt to answer Winston’s recall.

“Mei is the devil” is a terrible meme and i wish it would die. Mei is a sweet girl who just wants to save the environment.

Well, true, but I think my point still stands.

Well, much like Teemo in League of Legends, it’s Mei’s playstyle that earns her such a bad reputation, not her lore.

She has a kit that allows her to toy with friends and enemies alike, and make you feel like an idiot every time you die to her. And her cutesy demeanor only serves to rub it in.

Have you seen her smirk before she headshots her victim?

Her in-game voice lines and animation do not represent her real personality.

roadhog is chaotic neutral. same with junk.

What are you on about?

… All the heroes you mentioned have literally been associated with Overwatch in some way shape or form.

The info is out there. Check it.

So the question is how to incorporate super bad guy in to Overwatch… When it’s an organization that fights for the greater good?

Like, Chu gonna have to put in some overtime on this one.

The Junkerqueen impales omnic children on her spear thingy for sport.

I’m just going to throw in that the Joker has the Red Hood background and Alan Moore attempted to make his character more sympathetic in The Killing Joke. Not to disagree with you, because I think that there is a place for black/white characters that make for extreme contrasts, but many want nuance in their characters as evidenced as trying to write in sympathy for Joker’s character.

Uhh… no, they haven’t.

The only groups that Ashe has ever associated with are her parents and the Deadlock Gang.

Bastion was a combat robot that participated in the Omnic Crisis, was disabled in battle against the German army, and then was reactivated decades later. He never encountered anyone associated with Overwatch until after Overwatch had been disbanded.

Brigitte’s father was Torbjorn and she served as a caretaker for Reinhardt, but she never joined Overwatch.

Hanzo struck out on his own after leaving the Shimada family. Never encountered anyone from Overwatch until Genji found him.

Pharah never joined Overwatch. By the time she was old and decorated enough, Overwatch was disbanded.

Zenyatta never joined Overwatch. The only time he’s interacted with a member of Overwatch was when he trained Genji after he departed Overwatch.

Baptiste, Doomfist, D.Va, Junkrat, Lucio, Orisa, Roadhog, Sombra, Symmetra, Wrecking Ball, and Zarya have never met a member of Overwatch in their lives.

I really don’t understand where you’re getting this idea that every hero is associated with Overwatch.

Yes, but even The Killing Joke leaves it somewhat ambiguous if that was actually Joker’s origin story, and there are many more unsympathetic iterations of Joker’s character, with one of the best being Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight. Pure evil for the sake of evil; “I’m a dog chasing cars, I wouldn’t know what to do with one if I caught it!”

Stories like The Killing Joke are celebrated because they’re the exception, and not the rule for Joker’s character. There are many more stories that portray him as an irredeemable agent of chaos.

If you want to see some other good examples of unsympathetic villains, I highly suggest you take a look at Lex Luthor in Superman: the Animated Series, the Justice League animated series, and Justice League Unlimited (Those three series are all part of the same canon).

A scheming, menacing, utterly ruthless villain who takes on Superman with sharp wits and unshakable confidence, and is always in control of the situation.
