Can we go back to OW1 textures and stuff?

Was watching some clips from OW1 on YouTube, and I couldn’t help but notice that the game just looked so much better back then. It’s not nostalgia either, as I didn’t play OW1. Like…OW2 graphics actually just feel downgraded after watching that

I’ve noticed almost no difference between the two. Just hero portraits, basically.

Maybe you just adjusted to OW2. In the clips I saw, everything kinda looked like it was glowing. And the texture bugs weren’t there either

I’m one to miss the sound effects… I mean I got used to how OW2 sounds now, but I still find the sound effects of OW1 more iconic and stylistic appropriate.

The textures improved (in the new skins), but the old skins are identical.

The problem is the lighting.

They removed this :c

When OW1 rolled over to OW2, I never once pointed out any graphical changes beyond hero portraits. The OW2 skins are literally just more skins, the skins from OW1 look the same unless they tidied something up about them.

Mercy’s hair in the Sigrun and Valkyrie skins look like a rolled up shiny turd.

Looked lightyears better in OW1.

The old skins are identical in design, yes. But they look different in a way. Old OW just looked better. It’s possible that it was the lighting…but in that case, can we go back to the old lighting :joy:

This is caused by the lighting they have applied to the skin.

Whatever it is, it’s really gross.

Texture-wise I don’t really see a difference, at least not one big enough to comment on it. Maybe it’s a subjective thing?

The UI is much better, though. The in-game UI, that is, the menu is worse.

Yep, the lighting was much brighter and the screen didn’t feel as blurry as it does in this version. The health bars were also easier to read, there were less lens flare effects from things like Sym beam and D.va rockets.

Game felt much clearer and readable than it is now. Not to mention the old player models are far superior to the new ones.

OW2 is a definitely a downgrade. Animations, UI and various other stuff look awesome in OW1

I wonder the cause of this downgrade is due to budget cuts and talented devs leaving OW team.

You didn’t play Ow1? Well there you go. Anyone that has will call you crazy. The game looked way worse in Ow1

I haaaaate the rim-lighting they added to all the character models in Overwatch 2. It wasn’t even needed for visibility because we have character outlines.

I prefer the OW1 version for textures, default skins, hero portraits, voicelines, UI and hero select animations.

One look at this thread kinda disproves that lol

OW1 looks like dirt. The people who play OW2 and see no difference seem to be playing on low graphics.

I am going to assume you mean the UI because the textures of everything else are exactly the same with exception of new skins which seems to be more detailed.

looks like dirt? it is the same game lmao.

there is not much of a difference but yea you can tell its a different game engine. especially the physics are more rag doll in overwatch 2.

the reason for the change was pve but that never happened so it was all a wasted effort anyways and with 1 less hero on the screen since 5v5 … heh

we could have stayed on the old engine no problems SINCE we will never have pve. we had archives in overwatch 1 and that was just fine. i bet they could have made those 3 pve missions on the old engine too lol
