From what I’ve understood they can’t since they are using a new engine for all the new stuff. And they are not going to release that till OW2 is out. Could be wrong though.
Plus holding back a ton of content is likely to make them more money that slowly drip feeding us it. So that’s obviously what they will do.
But why make good money, when you can make even more money?
If they bring OW2 content into base OW that means they have less to market OW2 with, which leads to lower sales. It’s a smart business decision, but damn is it scummy.
You’re probably right, these days. I keep thinking of Blizzard as being like “2010-Blizzard” when in reality everything they’ve released lately is trash.
Tbh we all going to buy OW2 if just for updated UI and Graphics overhaul & PvE not to mention supporting a Game we all love & want to continue playing.
Honestly I can’t find the old post as most OW searches are drowned out about OW2 speculation. But I am pretty sure the old pitch was the MTX of OW were to fund free game updates and content. Considering they keep pumping out the MTX in skins and other items it’s safe to assume that yes OW is a live game and should get more updates.
But what i did find was this about OW 2.
The values for Overwatch 2 are that we want the game to feel like it has a constant heartbeat, that there are a lot of updates to the game, and that the community knows that it’s kind of our first priority moving forward.
So even if you some how think OW wasn’t a live service it really looks OW 2 is going to be and I can’t see blizzard keeping up with that update schedule. This is the company that struggles to make a sequel every decade for their most popular IP’s like Starcraft, Warcraft, Diablo etc.
There are heroes I’m yet to master but even with 32 we don’t all like all of them to be fair.
I have my pool of hereos I enjoy but while I enjoy the game I don’t enjoy doomfist so I wouldn’t enjoy myself trying to master him
I, too, have been here since launch. Started as a Lucio main. Jumped to Hog for a bit. Now I’m a Pharah/McCree main. But there are so many other heroes I enjoy and am looking forward to getting better at: Torb, DF, Mei, Echo, Sigma, Baps… just to name some. I know that’s not everyone’s experience, but “new” heroes/maps shouldn’t be the only thing keeping players (especially the 2017 vets) from sticking around. They either love what we already have or they don’t.
I, personally, just want more short stories to flesh out existing characters (looks at Doomfist). That, and actually fixing certain achievements cough Doomfist and Baptiste cough.
Fair enough. I just know, for myself, with how far apart hero releases were, I had to find joy in the content we had. Because not all new heroes interested me and I would only be disappointed until the next new hero… Fortunately lots of past heroes interest me enough I’ll be plenty occupied and entertained until OW2.
I find plenty to do in current OW too!
Just not always in the heroes we have. But taking the ones I like and messing with them in custom game, or playing different modes, or grinding comp.
And balance patches are really cool too (excited for this thursday as it lines up with recent release schedules), these patches give me loads to talk about and they give me new ways to mess with heroes.
