Can we get a tank that counters reaper?

if 222 is gonna be a thing I’m gonna see reaper as always an issue.

How would a tank counter Reaper?

Fly and stay in the sky?
So reaper cannot attack you, does no damage and does not heal himself. Meanwhile you cannot protect your team from up there. If your kit consists of long range attacks and boops then you are also a problem for many other heroes.

Counter him by not letting him self heal?
So you are immune to damage. He cannot heal himself. Other heroes also fail to chew through your defenses.

A tank who punishes reaper for veing on the open field like a sniper would do? This would be a heavy damage output for a tank.

I think what we have now (good hook/shotgun combos or a lucky oneshot by Roadhog, Orisa barrier dancing etc. are fine compared to what I wrote above.

He is good at picking on tanks, dive dps heroes are/were good at killing supports.

Something like Bridgette where they could peel. Knockback on ability.

I’d rather just nerf Reaper. This game already has enough damn CC powercreep…

Sorry but this is exactly what I meant. They added Brig to counter dive heroes. And release Brig destroyed anything like a Boss on enrage.
Now she is gutted. I hated her but now is really weak and a hero with such a good visual design, awesome vouce acotor deserves more…

Zarya…
She can protect focused team memebers and her max damage is higher than Reaper’s…
Not to mantion her body shape makes hitting her with Reaper’s gun harder/weaker…

I agree another tank that can deal with Reaper will be a bless but until then we have Zarya+stun to finish him

I think Reaper has extreme weaknesses. On open field he is dead, he has no CC, a simple stun ruins his ultimate which needs time to kill. It can also be blocked by barriers and matrix. He is loud and big…

I would say he is fine and other tanks need to recover from some nerfs.

Edit: a lot of spelling mistakes

Only problem is, how do you counter someone who’s consistent damage beats out her max damage before she gets there?
The bubble only last for a second or 2, has a relatively long cooldown, and reaper has passive healing on shots. So…that’s not a battle you’d win outright.

Also her hitbox is still quite big , and reapers gun spread isn’t anywhere near as wide as you think (he can reliably hit shots at close-mid, to mid and deal enough damage to change the outcome of a fight)

As someone who repeatedly played out the Zarya side of this matchup tonight, no, it does not work. Reaper has way too much sustain. If he’s not shooting you, you can get him. But the two likely scenarios are that he kills you because his passive more than makes up for whatever meager damage difference there is (that you must be at max charge to have, and that cannot happen if you’re also saving your bubbles to save your team from him).

But he could also just as easily destroy another teammate and not you (again, as Zarya) and then he just floats away. Remember that killing Reaper in a damage matchup is never that simple because he just floats away when he wants to.

I think Roadhog might be a viable Reaper counter, but I also might be missing something since I don’t play Roadhog myself. But if you’re planning on countering Reaper, you need very high burst damage to push past his passive sustain, and having CC at the ready so he can’t float away is also handy.

No, I don’t think we should have a tank that can counter him. A tank that can fight, and win if he’s skilled, should be most tanks if not all.

Symmetra for example, is a direct counter to shields and can be seen pretty op by some people. But you can kill her, if you play better.

But since Reaper is kinda op atm, he just needs some light nerfs to make him fair.

True but while she’s not a 100% counter she can do enough to block him. Remember it’s not a 1V1 so the team will probably give a helping hand.

If you’re on 100% I belive you can do enough damage to kill him while being inside the bubble and using a team member as a live shield.

He can do 140 damage while she can do up to 180 if I remember correctly making her a valid choice against him…
Not to mantion the bubbles block heal making him vurnable to attacks from all directions…

If you don’t want Zarya take in mind Roadhog hook combo can one shot him but it’s still a risk since he can use his wraith form.

In my experience so far, Reaper has trouble with Sigma if he is supported well. Orisa is also a good choice. With good support she can take down Reaper. Road Hog is give and take. A good hook can end Reaper, but a good Reaper may go into wraith form to bait out the hook.

Hog can kill him, and DVa can negate his damage.

Hog counters reaper if you know what you’re doing. If they’re both even skill it’s about a 50/50 matchup.

Reaper is a great example of how this game is broken. 1 DPS character counters the entire tank class. Is there any wonder why everyone wants to play DPS and no one wants to play tank?

The hog v reaper matchup is basically a war of attrition, but due to hog being a much bigger target and no disengage in his kit he can be at a disadvantage on a team fight.

Sigma does so wonderfully.

  • Get in Reapers Face with Kinetic Grasp during Death Blossum to completely shut him down.
  • Put shield between him and your allies by taking it down and re-positioning it. Encourage your allies to shield dance.
  • Stun Reaper with BIG OLE ROCK once he leaves Wraith Form

Its pretty easy to outplay Reaper on Sigma.

I don’t want a Reaper counter, I wanna Reaper to be properly adjusted for 2-2-2.

If there was a tank or support that countered DPS like Reaper counters tanks, said hero would have received nerf after nerf for months. See Brigitte for proof.

Reaper was adjusted, according to Jeff himself, to counter 3-3, because he should be - and I quote - “a natural counter to that”.

Shock: He wasn’t. Everyone and their dog knew Reaper would not counter 3-3. Even before the 50% Life steal went live every YouTuber, coach, analyst and amateur player was saying: This won’t work and this is not the way to go.

Now we have a role lock and Reaper was not adjusted for that scenario. It’s undeniably broken, and beyond that, hurts even queue times, because why the fork would you choose to play as a hard countered ult battery?

I realize theory and practice often diverge and balance changes can have an unpredictable result, that is fine, but that can’t be a blanket excuse for the lack of basic, most natural foresight.

Role queue and lock is a fantastic tool. It gives devs a freedom they never had, to balance around 2-2-2, so let’s go, do that, we have had two patches since role lock, why hasn’t Reaper received adjustments to prevent the most predictable of problems? You don’t need time and stats to figure that one.

They made a hero to counter all tanks and are surprised nobody plays tank lol.

I used to swap off tank to 3 dps against repear. Cant do that anymore which is why repear is broken
