Can Someone Explain to Me

The logic/mindset that compels so many players to ride the payload or defend ON the obj (2cp)??

I… I just don’t understand

depands…

Better sightlines or bad positioning.
Some KotH maps the defending team can have some advantages when defending at the point (Busan city or Illios abyss as an example, also Volskaya 2.)

Depands on hero, rank, team-composition etc.

Because I want to win the game (if you’re talking about me being the only one on payload)

It depends on the situation. Sometimes it’s the right thing to do.

I fail to see how that is a bad/wrong thing to do

(also, for riding the payload…is that for attack? Cause you kinda need to be near it to move)

im the opposite i wonder what compels people to spawn camp, it usually ends up bad by the team dying due to increased pressure or they get backcapped which ends up being hysterical

Most of the time I don’t think it’s a lack of understanding of what they should do, but more cowardice and being burned too many times with people misplaying the “correct” forward position. So they’ll turtle on the point to their detriment.

I don’t understand why some players seem to think they can push toward the enemy spawn and then we get rolled there and lose because of it. I see it happen SO many times its infuriating.

We are doing well, (this mostly happens on maps like Oasis, etc) been holding the map, probably ticked up to 75% or so, team starts feeling balzy and pushes the enemy team to spawn. Then we get rolled, the enemy team takes point, and often we are unable to retake…

This happens on so many maps and stuff though, I can predict it EVERY time.

I typically am playing a healer role in many of these games, and use the “fall back” command when my team starts pushing too far, no one heeds, then they all fall, me too if I’m stupid enough to try to keep them up, and we lose the point, the payload, whatever it is we were to defend.

At some point, you have to STOP chasing them too.

I just don’t get it. We had that game in the bag, WHY did you all have to get greedy?

Anyway.

Positioning matters. Fights matter. At higher rankings, fights are better coordinated. You fight, one loses, the other then takes point, or pushes cart till the next fight. Repeat.

There are places to have those fights, and they aren’t always at the point.

I think that is what the OP is getting at. But ultimately it comes down to map awareness, positioning, teamwork and skill.

There needs to be 1 person on cart and everyone else pushes forward to snowball and catch staggered targets. That’s literally a GM strat. It can depend on the situation but usually it’s 1 person on cart.

As for not being on point, it really depends on the situation, even moreso than the situation above. People will usually leave point when it gets close to capping for the reason above.

The person left on the cart/point is whoever is gonna contribute the least to the next fight. So very rarely ever a tank. Usually a support or dps.

However, there is a difference between playing aggro and blatantly feeding–which might be what you’re describing.

Edit: I’m an idiot and didn’t know what compel means. I thought it was the exact opposite. But I guess this can answer the other people below me.

Back capping is probably the biggest reason to stay near objectives and therefore actively on it.

If the enemy team runs a hammond, sombra, trace, genji, or lucio they can circumvent terrain more quickly than others bypassing several choke points pressing point and you need to send someone to contest them.

The further you are from the objective the longer it takes to get someone back there and sometimes the only person who can do it is vital to holding the team forward.

Its also just disadvantageous to

It won’t move and you won’t win if you’re not on it. It needs like 3 people I think to move at it’s max speed too.

Someones gotta do it. You wanna win, don’t you?

Ya’ll are proving my point in an exemplarily manner.

“You want it to move, don’t you” hurr durr

You don’t need the team on the payload. You need 1 on (a few have said this) and should be looking to take space/catch staggers.

But there are FAR too many players that don’t understand how asinine it is to sit on payload and allow a free re-contest.

“It moves faster with 3 on!”

But it doesn’t move at all once the enemy gets to touch it.
