Can someone explain SR?

It’s skill rating not based off individual skill but rather team performance but then there is also MMR which is individual skill or something but it’s hidden? So why are we not placed based on MMR if comp is supposed to be a ladder built apon the skill of a player?

because blizz doesn’t do simple. or common sense

If you win you go up. If you lose you go down. The better you are at the game, the more you will win against people you are better than. Your SR is a reflection of your skill over the course of time.

I wrote an explainer at How Competitive Skill Rating Works (Season 13). The references give the relevant developer statements or supporting data.

We don’t have your rank determined purely by statistical performance because that generates a system where people chase stats rather than try to win games. Note also that MMR is not a synonym for statistical performance. That is a popular myth, but MMR only has a small performance component.

Because in comp you’re facing others against your skill rating. It cares nothing about your skill.

The game is too complex to really identify what is a good play and what is a bad play.

How would the game know that the mccree player held flashbang for a minute because he knew reaper was waiting to use ult? The reaper player would be forced to hold ult the entire time while he waits for mccree to use the flash.

Compare this to the mccree spamming flashbang ever time it is off cool down. The first mccree may never end up stunning the reaper, but by holding the cool down he is giving his team a higher chance of winning.

How can the game realistically interpret that play using pure stats? That is also a very simplistic example, the game is way too complex to use anything other than win loss in relation to sr.
