I think that’s the plan, they said something about developing better AI teammates so you can play solo.
My biggest concern with OW2.
At first yes, After a month or so when everyone has played the tar out of the pve stuff they will get bored and leave.
I think some developer said that they were trying to figure out a way to have Bots as teammates incase somebody disconnected or something. So maybe you’ll be able to play by yourself during the story missions and you can have the other 3 characters be Bots
Remember that there are many PVE games that are played by loads of players. E.g Destiny or Borderlands. L4D2. Just some examples out of hundreds.
The deciding factor will be how good the PVE is.
If it is something like the archive missions, where missions are a copypasted multiplayer map with some standing bots, it will be dead.
If it is a fully fledged PVE game with progression and variety, it will have a good playerbase
I would love a solo mode just because I’ve seen how randoms play the co-op archives missions and yikes… Leavers and trolls and AFKers ruining entire missions in OW2 like they do in OW sounds like it would be a nightmare.

Oh, was I supposed to get bored?
From the way it was advertised – they’d have to add bots to do a solo mode.
I don’t know if you’re familiar with Left 4 Dead series – but the only way to play that one solo was to have 3 AI team mates (and it was kind of a crap experience) because the missions were designed for people to help their team mates.
It depends from how much effort they would put into PvE.
Had better experience with bots in L4D, than with some players.
Can count on me to basically queue side missions, hero missions, or whatever else but also keep replaying the story missions too. Like I love PvE enough that I definitely will always be in each queue eventually.
Maybe it’ll use a system similar to map voting in other games, the group is presented with some missions and a random button
In-freaking-deed. L4D was tons of fun to play again and again because of the dynamic AI which kept things interesting. Though, a PvE can be highly replayable even without an AI system like that if it just otherwise manages to be fun/engaging. Heck, to the last days I played OW (before uninstalling it) I still occasionally jumped into versus AI even, not because the mode itself is good but because the community is so chill and fun.
Tbh I have not been that impressed by the OW2 PvE demonstrations but I’m still looking forward to it and a major reason for that is because I find OW1 PvE community fun so if we can have a better gameplay attached to it on top of that then I’m in.
That’s fine, and I am fine with them adding AI team mates to OW2 – but I hardly think it should be a priority. You really aren’t playing the game at that point.
