Bring Back 6v6: A Tank Reward System to Fix Overwatch Queues

I am a believer that lots of small circumstances can help alleviate an issue instead of searching for a magical silver bullet.

But an alternative playstyle within the tank role that mirrors the dps role would entice dps players into the tank role for shorter queue times

Lol I’m not. I tried about 300+ hours trying to solve that issue from every angle I could think of. And nah, basically none of it yielded a good Tank-to-DPS ratio, while still keeping 6v6 Role Queue.
Like I genuinely don’t think it’s physically possible.

Also, something like this would get better results, without much effort at all after they get the engine issues sorted out.

Which they already confirmed in the last blog post, that they are doing some form of 6v6 Open Queue with Role Limits.

  3. Any benefit you’re talking about here, isn’t unique to 6v6 Role Queue. So it would benefit any other queue system. Therefore, it’s not an advantage.

Yep, that is more or less the obvious solution and the inevitable direction if they intend for this format to work.

however by virtue of it being a solo tanking experience, whatever they did to entice dps players into a solo tanking environment is undone by the extra stress solo tanking does, so unless they gigabuff the dps tanks to being hard meta, it doesnt really apply

but it would greatly benefit all queue systems

Well it’s gonna have to be one of these options for 6v6 Open Queue with Role Limits.

  • 2max-3max-2max
  • 2max-4max-2max
  • 2max-5max-2max
  • 2max-6max-2max

Because:

  • 3-1-2 with Mei = Basically GOATs

  • 2-1-3 with Mei = Basically GOATs

  • 2-?-2 with Mei = Not GOATs


Like maaaaybe their weird Kingmaker thing might work. But that’s a hail mary longshot.

But all their other suggested 6v6 tests are not going to work.

So I don’t know when the devs are going to pivot away from that stuff.

Because sure, it’s fun. For the novelty.

But it’s never gonna work longer term.

I mean, it doesn’t necessarily matter the raw number of Tanks.
What matters is the ratio of DPS-to-Tank players.

And nah, that isn’t doing jack to improve the ratio.

Because 6v6 is already starting with a 200% Tank player requirement.
Much less getting something like 300% of the Tank players we got now.

You can’t bribe people to play a role indefinitely. Sure, if you offer a reward someone wants they will play a role to get that reward, but only until they have done whats necessary for the reward.

So you either would have to offer so many rewards at such a constant rate that realistically very few players could get them all, all the while making sure they all are equally appealing to keep people engaged, or you just have to accept that tank role will keep depreciating over time after each reward release as more and more people have got the rewards they want and reverted to their usual preferred role.

Also, I would question how much someone who doesnt usually play tank cares about getting a tank skin in the first place.

I am asking for skins that are specific to quick play and comp for tanks slot.

EG: legion legendries’ for each role…

incentives always works. They need to give us an incentive if they are really serious about 6v6.

As much as I love Aaron, i am going to call him out on his BS. He needs to give us a fair chance at 6v6 we waited a good chunk of time. They need to take notes from WOW Dev team and check with them. The Legendary system will work.

How do you know? grinding is what we need. they tested this with drive and all the new titles. you don’t have any. I have them ! there is a difference.

I want a skin that we earn through repeated queuing as a tank. no currency needed. THis should be an internal %.

Thicc probably has 3000 hours on rein you better talk to him with respect. if it comes to shove blizz will chose him over you to solve an issue. He has in game experience. you can be easily replaced by a new NVDA GPU which can solve problems at much higher pace.

you have 0 hours in overwatch 2. Grey honestly you need to know when to talk and when to back off. How are you going to tell what we need to entice people to que as a tank when you dont even have 1000 hours as a tank.

We are the ones who need to play the game and face the dps not you crunching the numbers for 300 hours

Does not matter they need to sign up for the tank role. Point is to minimise the que time, point is not to judge anyone’s excitement, or how good their are at the role.

yes. not that hard. the incentive should be good that players are requing the game. that is the key.

OW2 is a good enough game that can keep anyone excited at any role. I myself play, Rein and mercy. If i life depended on it, i can bring my gilded mercy out. no issues.

again, his job is only to que as a tank to ease the que times. what he gets or what does not get is up to him.

If they gave me dps skins for playing tank i would play more tank otherwise nah dont need it.

Just to make it easier for other folks. Earning skins or pc has always been in blizzard format in games like WOW.

we should bring that format to OW to make que times easy. if we are really serious about 6v6 2/2/2

if not we can all lie to each other and play the circus mode that they are offering so we can vent on the forum.

As much i love OW, i love 6v 6 as well, but tanking aint easy in 6v6. you need to consider that.

I think this is totally acceptable as long as you fill the role. I dont have any issues. i just want you with me to fill the 2/2/2 slot

3 themed skins (one for each role) a season linked to all queue use might be enough to get queues down.

But the points/ currency for your skin of any role should be earned via tank que ?

If so then that should be acceptable. No matter what role you spend your points, as long as you que as tank. that should be good, because MMR will take care of that rest.

This is why specifically “DPS-oriented” tanks is the suggestion. It’s not necessarily about the quantity of tanks, but more so the quality of those tanks.

For the sake of example:
If every tank was like Rein, would it not be a less enticing role to an FPS gamer?

More tanks that DPS players would enjoy playing absolutely would increase tank play-time.
Maybe it wouldn’t solve the issue, but it absolutely would improve it.

If it’s something that benefits every queue type, then it’s not a benefit to a specific queue type.

I’ll state my concept simply:

More fun Tanks = more Tank players.
DPS-like tanks = DPS players playing Tank more.
=> Tank to DPS ratio improves.

Well yeah. But that applies to 5v5 Role Queue, and 6v6 Role Queue, and 6v6 Open Queue.

And basically any other type of queue system.
