are you actually trying to defend the easiest one shot combo in the game
Brigitte doesn’t counter Genji nearly to the same degree as to which where she makes Tracer completely unusable. Most counter matchups can still be won if the enemy makes a mistake and you can hit your skill shots. Tracer can’t do anything to Brigitte. Versus a Brigitte, Genji can still at least keep up in the air with his fifty different mobility skills, avoiding the shield bash and generally ignoring the Brigitte. He might get hit by the occasional stray whip shot, but as long as he pays mind to his positioning, he won’t have too much trouble. He’ll never kill the Brigitte, but that’s fine. Tracer can’t do any of that. For the most part, she’s completely grounded.
It’s not a well designed counter matchup. If I had a hero that would instantly kill any widow upon hovering your cursor over them, it would be a widow counter, but that doesn’t mean it should be in the game.
The “Flash bang is much deadlier than shield bash” argument is wrong.
You have multiple options for when a McCree is about to flash you. Jump, wall climb, use a mobility ability, use any shield ability, or use awkward terrain. If he likes to headshot after flash, you can get in his face to make the headshot difficult. All things that’ll either throw McCree’s aim off or not give him enough time to finish FTH. These things work and are abused by players Masters+. Unless the McCree is a really good player he’s going to have difficulty hitting the shot.
Where as with Briggite, her shield bash’s only reliable counter is staying out of her range. Something that isn’t hard exactly, but sucks if you’re a close ranged hero. The same counter plays for McCree don’t work nearly as well.
Also, does everyone just forget that Briggite has a 155 damage combo for any stunned hero? That’s more than a McCree headshot after flashbang. (140)
Overall, I don’t really think Briggite is OP anymore. Frustrating? Yes, but not OP.
This is my frustration with it. With characters like Widow, McCree, Soldier, Zen, Mei and the others that can deal with Tracer, you know that if you died, it was to being outplayed and countered in the purest gameplay sense.
With Brigitte and with Hanzo (Spamzo) the frustration is often that you died simply to them being there. There was no real skill involved, you just happened to pick a hero and they decided you weren’t allowed to play any more. At least the storm arrow changes slightly lowered the amount of BS Shamzo can get away with, but it’s still in the territory. Brigitte is just in the UNINSTALL GAME territory of BS matchups!
and they continue to be so … brig doesent really kill them (not counting the stupid ones) … she just makes their targerts that much harder to kill (armor is pretty hard for tracer to deal with)
Yeah I guess you’ve got this figured out. No need to think about ranged dps getting a pick or waiting for a man advantage before you every Brigitte territory. There is no important context outside of the 1v1
Yet I still find Shield Bash more annoying for the simple fact it negates barriers. Roadhog can only hook you if your barriers don’t exist and that’s fine but at any point a Brig can stun you from any angle and you can’t do anything about it.
Look, brigitte’s kit isn’t too OP, She just has too much going for her and enables too much crazy stuff. like her stun can only be stopped in 3 ways, by going invulnerable (Fade, wraith, transendance), by doing a CC immune ability (Zarya bubble, Fortify and so on) or By knocking her back from the side with CC, Though this doesn’t allways work. All other stuns have more ways to be countered, or have something else going for them (Doomfist has the same kind of stun, but can be stunned out of it and even be easily killed during the charge-up)
her kit is a good idea on paper, but it REALLY needs tweaking. especially in the whole idea of making her Counterable by a major aspect of HER kit or Another hero’s kit. like Symmetra’s after the rework.
It’s pretty simple.
Play Reinhardt and tell me why a support should be able to singlehandedly have the most overloaded kit since the start of Overwatch.
We don’t care that she counters flanks, we do care however that the dive meta consisted of more heroes than just Genji, Tracer, D.Va and Winston. And you know what we have now?
6 heroes. Only 6 actually playable heroes while the 6th most used hero has a pick rate difference of 5% to the 7 or 8th hero in the list.
This is forced, this is not what we wanted nor what we need in this game.
Outplay it how? Shield Break is one I hear all the time however the time it takes to start coming back is even less than the cooldown of the bash itself and you only need 1 shield HP to use a bash since there is no delay from throwing your shield up going straight into bash it’s almost instant.
Close Quarters is one I hear too but in an objective based game any amount of time you are not playing the objective you risk making it harder for you to win. If one hero is able to completely deny you an approach on a point that is a problem to me. It takes the work a team would have to do and hands it to a single player.
I’m just skimming through, but this part in particular is an odd point to make. The damage differs slightly but has the same effect for most purposes (both instakill Tracer, and both instakill 200 HP characters with a boost/discord). Brigitte only puts a small part of her kit on cooldown to do this, while McCree uses almost his entire kit, because Flashbang is his kit. He doesn’t have a repertoire of healing and self-defense abilities all still available afterward like Brigitte does.
There are better comparisons you could make to explain that McCree isn’t just universally worse than Brigitte, but you totally missed them here.
