Blizzards attempt to make Tanks pointless

I’m pretty sure we can all see where this is going. It’s getting harder and harder to tank now with the introduction of Brigitte not to mention the buffs to Reaper and Mei. Also, Junkrat is dominating with all the damage he puts out with his double mines etc.

Are they forcing a new tankless Meta? Right now Rein’s shield gets decimated in seconds. Roadhog’s healing can’t keep him alive long enough anymore with all this damage output. Dva got nerfed yet again.

I’m curious to where we’re going now. Are we just going to balance the game around supports like Brigitte and Moira?

You can organize a team without a tank and I’ll take one with tanks and see which one wins. I know where my money is.

How are the DPS supposed to do anything if they don’t have the tanks to make space for them?

While I think it’s a bit hyperbolic to say they’re trying to make tanks pointless I understand the feeling you have that tank gameplay is getting very unsatisfying.

Blizzard contrary to what they say do try to force certain metas. It’s beyond obvious that they’re trying to pull away from dive right now with the introduction of Moira, Brigitte, buffing things like Sombra’s hack. The issue is things like Brigitte and Sombra hack punish tanks in addition to the flankers maybe even more so.

Also Blizzard courtesy of Geoff has outright said they’re worried about a tank meta developing so that’s why they’re scared to do things like buff Ana. The reaper and Mei changes are probably another insurance policy against a tank meta forming. Mei and Reaper sorely needed the buffs but there are ways to counter dive and ensure a tank meta doesn’t form without tanks feeling unfun to play.

I think the main problem currently is Brigitte’s shield bash cooldown being so low.

You got a point. Tanks are not their strongest ATM. But it’s all about balance. If your team’s health is too low, you won’t survive. If it doesn’t have enough damage, it won’t kill fast enough. At the moment, the ideal point is a little more towards the “more dps” side. That may be because there’s more dps players than tank players.

Still though, tanks are necessary. 0-4-2 can be done effectively, but generally, a quad-dps team is going to lose. Tanks aren’t as powerful, but they still have power.

Just add in-game items. Let dps throw down shields and continue pew-pewing. Let health packs be a carried item, and turn tanks and supports into specialty dps heroes - Bam. Overwatch fixed.

Basically this. Damage keeps getting buffed while tanks/supports get nerfed. Not sure what the point is anymore to even play anything but dps.
