And it went terribly wrong.
Hell it is even referenced in Lijang Tower where the top part of the map is a 3D map of the space station and One of the pod is in a fluxed state.
And who doesn’t want to play as a mad scientist? He is awesome

Right? I don’t know why the OP so woefully understated his backstory.
Honestly, all the heroes have a good deal of lore woven throughout the game even if they didn’t get their own cinematic
/shrug
Sigma is the most disappointing out of all tanks. Insane and borderline evil in his introduction trailer, and nothing close to it in the game. There’s also Hog, but without his damage he doesn’t feel threatening.
Lucio is cool …

I love Orisa for the multitasking aspect.
Damage boost to secure kills + charging our dps’s ult + blocking a Rein charge + yanking a McCree from the high ground + picking off low health targets + shielding the enemy Ana’s los + bodyblocking enemy fire, simultaneously.
The issue is that she was never designed to accomidate that aspect, intended to be a tunnelvision turret tank.
But to return on-topic, both Winston and Reinhardt have heavy presences in multiple cinematic shorts, and are still difficult to get people to play. But I agree that support roles haven’t been depicted in an impressive way, even when they ARE in the spotlight. Compare Genji’s contributions to Mercy’s in the OW2 trailer for example, or Reins to Brig’s. It’s like an afterthought.
It does not matter, more interesting tanks and supports would make more tank and support players. It could be a minority, but it would still help mitigate the problem.
That video by KarQ showing off the EU Player Ball’s methods actually did make me take up WB as my Tertiary tank beyond Sigma/Zarya. The mechanics are the through the roof in that video… triple boops muhahahahaha!
Who cares about lore ?
Tanks aren’t played because they do not feel like tanks due to ridiculous damage that blizzard keeps upping for no reason. Even adding a new tank buster and banning 2 tanks all the time for good measure …
In his origin story, he says “Gravity is a harness. I have harnessed the harness”

That’s what’s so great about him. He’s not a Saturday morning cartoon villain like Reaper, Widowmaker or Moira, who twirls his moustache and laughs about how he will DESTROY THE WORLD but always loses at the end of every episode.
Sigma’s a human villain, probably Overwatch’s only one. Misguided? Absolutely. Insane? Quantifiably. Evil? Of course not.
Evil is overdone, especially in a universe like Overwatch where morality is mostly black and white. Sigma’s a villain who is absolutely a legitimate threat to Overwatch and probably is the single most powerful character in the setting lorewise (since there is no stated upper limit to his powers and despite his instability he retains his intelligence), and yet there’s so much more to him than the other members of Talon because he’s as much a victim of what they’ve done to him as everyone else. Killing Doomfist or Reaper or Widowmaker would be seen as a necessary evil to stop their reign of terror, killing Sigma would be a lot more complex because he ultimately doesn’t know what he’s doing, doesn’t intend for anyone to come to harm and needs psychiatric help more than he needs a bullet to the head.
Why do we want another 2-dimensional villain? Sigma is the only member of Talon I could see switching sides at some point during Overwatch 2 and that’s a really interesting character to explore.
I feel like I know everything I need to know about Reaper or Doomfist or Moira. There’s so much I want to know about Sigma.
Like I said, in the earlier part of this post, you can do that with any character on the roster.
If I wanted to, I could make an entire post doing this exact thing. I’m sick of this forum whining where “Tanks and Supports are oh-so disadvantaged!” - We’re not. Get over it.
tanks and supports aren’t bad, just really really unpopular.
That isn’t uncommon, though. Most people gravitate towards the big damage dealers - we don’t need an even playerbase for each role, because that’ll never happen.
what do you mean? we do need it if we want the game to function healthily as is right now.
it’s an even split among the roles required to play games, you’d need same amount of popularity between all 3 roles for it to be healthy.
My point is that actually achieving that is highly unlikely, because most people enjoy DPS. That’s a common trend among all class-based shooters, which is why the Tank/Support rosters are so small. More heroes doesn’t necessarily mean more people playing them. That’s all.
i don’t play class based shooters outside of overwatch, the other fps i play is arena shooters and counterstrike.
and i really only play overwatch as a way to relax, i don’t take it too seriously.
but i think this 2-2-2 will lead the game eventually to it’s demise unless they change the popularity for tanks and supports somehow.
I do agree, I think we need some more Tanks and Supports that are fun, and not super niche like some of them are. Especially with the Tanks in my opinion, as right now the only reliable main Tank we have is Reinhardt, and that has always been so.
Granted, I like 2/2/2, I’ve gotten used to it. However, it is turning a decent amount of people off the game because of the changes that have followed.
i mean sure the current support and tank roster have found an audience, but that audience isn’t big enough to fill the shoes it needs to fill.
i’d rather see them flip the game on its head and rework all existing tanks and supports to be more “fun” for the general audiences over trying to patch it over with some “fun” new tanks and supports that won’t come until overwatch 2.

I think I speak for a great many tank and support players when I say that I will not tolerate more reworks and changes to the heroes I already enjoy to try to appeal to other people, like their experiences are more valid than mine. How many supports and tanks have been butchered because Wrecking Ball/Brigitte/Orisa/Sigma/Mercy bad DPS good?
No thanks. I’d rather keep the tanks and supports I enjoy in their current state in their current state.
good luck convincing the devs.
i mean look i actually like how they are currently, but the sad truth is i don’t think we’re enough.
