Their profit model is to sell a skin. Thats it. Thats all.
So they will do what they can, to scoop in as many new players as possible.
They just want them to come in and buy a skin coz their strimmer plays the game, nothing more.
I mean, I don’t really see the point? Twitch generates money for streamers with consistent subs and dono’s.
Improve the game and more people play it. Everyone knows that these streamers are paid and will go right back to their other games when the sponsor is over. The word of mouth is that OW2 is a greedy monetization update. Sponsors won’t help with this because Blizzard aren’t fixing the main issue which is the game.
The PVE is canceled and we get a story mission in small parts with 9 weeks of waiting for new ones. It seems to be Archives+ but for $15 for 90 minutes worth of gameplay.
You don’t own these missions. You only own the access to play them as long as the OW2 servers are online and it requires multiple players to be played.
While you perhaps will find a lot of people to play with next season, you don’t know how many still will play the game far in the future so you can more see these missions as limited time ones.
Compare this to single players games that you can play now and 100 years later and doesn’t require any server or other players than yourself.
Im sorry but the goal isn’t to make the streamer play the game beyond the ads, it’s to present the game to their audience. They aren’t looking to hook in the streamers, but to tap into their fps playing audience that will be satisfied with the game and how it is.
New players are also easier to please with the current state of the game, specially if you have no idea about the scratched pve or don’t care (since you haven’t waited for years).
I don’t disagree with any of your points, so please don’t come at me for that. But for marketing this makes absolute sense
Probably never to be honest, because this is fairly standard practice. Love it or hate it, lots of publishers do this.
Because there is less people playing the game, the system can’t find people to match you
selected accounts exempt from rigging. also the marketing scheme seems to coincide in harmony with forum censorship.
Funny fact: half of the Apex community streamers (some of them ex-OW players) were streaming OW2 today.
Which game hasnt paid streamers to play their game these days? Why is it news?
But the player numbers are according to some sources (montecristo), not just forum speculators, comparable to valorant:

don’t care we still like got 68 billion from recent microsoft deal
People discovering water is wet now and adding a skull emoji is quite the trend apparently.
News Flash: Triple AAA companies pay streamers to play their games.
… like really? Valorant does it, Apex does it, Battlebit does it, hell, even some games like “Only Up” have literally given the game for free to streamers just to bait them into streaming it
LMAO
pathetic activision blizzard
should fire them all. incompetent managers and devs
no wonder diablo 4 sinked so hard.
diablo 4 metacritic user score is going down so fast. it’s now 2.2 LMAO
by just playing the open beta for couple of days.
I could tell the game is complete garbage.
worst than diablo 3.
didn’t even bother to buy the game.
That’s kind of sad tbh.
Instead of trying to understand why people doesn’t play the game anymore and act accordingly, they waste money on this.
It’s crazy that game companies haven’t realised yet that seeing your favorite streamer play a game doesn’t instantly mean you’re gonna play it too.
Especially when alot of streamers will literally only play the game for as long as required under terms of the sponsorship, nothing more.
Ok, “Val is better”.
Proof that putting it on Steam is just a big advert for them to get more people playing for investors to see rising numbers for their once highly anticipated event
How pitiful. How low can you go, Blizzard?
They know this and there not doing it for that reason.
They want to boost the sales of the new PvE and battle pass for the next season as it releases on steam.
It will work and using twitch is very effective.
These are all short term goals.
As for long term they need to improve the game.
These same people wouldn’t believe that most hollywood movies’ marketing budgets are larger than the actual movie cost. Advertising means a ton, it’s just unwisely spent on a mediocre product.
I will stream for free and show off my soft quit game play abilities.
