With the recent canonization of Reinhardt/Ana in the webtoon and the heavy romantic teasing between heroes like Juno/Wuyang and Mizuki/Kiriko, I want to urge the narrative team to scale back on shipping.
While some fans enjoy these developments, pushing romantic pairings so heavily into the canon dilutes the actual quality of the story. Overwatch’s strength lies in its core conflict with Null Sector, Talon, and the deep platonic/professional bonds between the heroes. Forcing romance into the spotlight distracts from world-building and character progression.
Furthermore, officially canonizing ships—regardless of the pairing—fuels toxicity, argument, and alienation within the community. Please keep future character dynamics ambiguous or strictly platonic so that the story can focus on the main plot and all players can enjoy their own headcanons.
Again, I beg. Please don’t do this, at least not any further.
Wuyang having a crush (if talking to a girl and blushing is considered a crush, and not just timidity) on Juno doesn’t mean they’ll canonize the ship.
I’m glad for Anahardt, it was the safest ship ever to canonize tbh, and the flirty lines have been there for years already.
What saddens me is that they are giving LGBTQ+ characters love interests oustide the main cast (don’t get me wrong, I love that Emily and Tracer are together, and Lifeweaver is having a NB lover now ), it feels that there is a different treatment if the relationship is not gay.
Anyway, whatever the writers do, someone somewhere will be unhappy with any ship being canonized or not.
Honestly I’m surprised that I see more people not wanting it than wanting it lmao.
I pray that the Wuyang thing just stays one sided and we can all forget and move on. If they wanna attempt it again in the future then at least give REAL time for the characters to develop as individuals. Honestly, I’m a fan of both Wuyang and Juno, and watching Wuyang get lobotomized just to serve as an anime style love interest feels wrong, and it’s super artificial how they pretty much can’t let Juno and Wu stay in different panels since they were introduced, like, come on.
Sorry for the double post but unless you have fast pass and have access to episode 19, it’s confirmed 100% he has a crush on her. They accidentaly touch hands and he blushes and smiles at her while his mouth becomes wobbly and pink bubbles float in the background.
Spoiler: New chapter keeps pushing the Juno x Wuyang crush. It doesn’t feel as artificial as before but still that ship sailed long ago and it spoiled the milk. I’m surprised that even with the community pushback they keep going forward with it.
They just could have let the relationship completely open and platonic, you know?
At this point even the main subreddit that usually laughs at this stuff is sick of the Wuyang x Juno thing and I’m surprised Blizzard hasn’t dialed it down despite the reception.
This has nothing to do with what you want or fan service. If it was fan service, they’d be doing Genji and Mercy.
But this features two of the most marketable, young, attractive new heroes that meld reasonably well together.
So, it’s whatever. This is like, the least offensive subplot going on in this complete waste of time of a comic run. The fact they skipped over Genji’s rescue and got him back off screen in favor of a poorly drawn water gun fight is proof this comic is a rushed afterthought with no budget or care going into it.
Which is exactly what makes Juno and Wuyang feel so milquetoast and flavorless. Seriously, see how many panels these two share compared to the rest of the cast that might as well not exist. Dude got depressed and of all people, Juno was the one to go. Anran didn’t even try to go after him. Crap just feels absolutely forced with nochemistry or friction whatsoever, and the fact it’s the highlight of discussions around Undivided says a lot of how much of a dissapointment the overall comic has been.
Having characters canonically dating other characters ruins the fantasy players have with them, just how K-POP stars are told not to date since fans fantasies will be ruined seeing their favorite idol with someone substantially more attractive than them.
As riddiculous as this sounds, it’s true, a reality of the industry. Why do you guys think Lux and Ezreal have been teased as a couple for more than a decade but Lux gets to even have a joke about forgetting Ezreal?
I’m surprised Blizzard is doing this with Juno of all characters, she’s one of the most popular girls they have. At this point the theory of “Wuyang is a self insert for the asian male players” rings more true than never before… And honestly I don’t even dislike the dude, I even feel the comic is doing my man dirty; it’s ironic how Undivided made me retroactively dislike Juno and Wuyang as a couple. There’s some people saying that you can go and see how many panels are of them together vs the rest of the characters and my God it shows.
I’d respect Blizzard madly if in the end they did something like, idk, have Anran ask Wuyang if he’ll ask Juno out and then him saying that no, not now, because the world needs them and her family needs her. That would show some maturity, restraint and self growth. Or heck even have Juno be the one to turn him down.
