Last month, I played Tank in comp, I did great I must say, most elims in lobby, most damage too.
But for some reason, a 3 stack group in my team didn’t like my tank hero, so they decided to slur, and wished for my entire family death.
I typed “Get muted kids”, then left VC and closed chats.
1 day after, I got BANNED for “Abusive Chat”.
These players MASS reported me only for these 3 words after death wishes to me, and Blizzard got me banned.
2 weeks ago I decided to play again on my friend account who quit.
I played like 3 games, and then on the 4th game, same thing happened but with just 1 guy. The opponents team was way better, we lost 2 fights and then he started to slur and swear me for playing tank that isn’t a “Dive tank”. I told him “Get Lost Kid” and THATS IT.
then I reported him for abusive chat, and then he typed in Match Chat “Report my tank for racism, and swearing in chat”. and guess what? I got BANNED AGAIN.
I don’t understand that logic blizzard, do you even read the text messages before you are BANNING someone??
After 7 years of playing this game, I decided to quit, because Blizzard are TRASH, here you go, I said it, now you can ban my forum account too.
Actions are taken based on numbers of reports no matter what is being said. The system is automated and probably never looked at unless you appeal (which is also not guaranteed to be answered by a human)
That aside, they are right, you don’t tend to get banned for even getting mass reported for a single game.
Silenced? Yes. Suspended? Sometimes. But not a full on permaban.
I’m not about to say you shouldn’t be angry at how those people treated you, because how they behaved was reprehensible. But you really do have to get reported repeatedly, by different people, over a number of games to get actioned.
Having said all that. I really do wish CS was more hands on with the whole thing. At the moment it is painfully clear the process is at least partially automated. And this current system lacks the nuance and integrity that a team of actual people would possess.
It takes too long to get in touch with an actual person, and the emails you get do not elaborate on why your account was actioned.
Oh god yes, when people get nasty in this game, the best course of action is to mute, report and don’t respond. Because some people actually take great pleasure in goading others into saying reportable stuff.
No one knows anything about the the report system its all speculation at this point. What i will say is if their banning this many ppl over stuff thats not serious this game will be dead fast. Its funny they seem to take a harder approach on F bombs then they do on cheaters which tells you alot about the direction of the game.
I got banned too it’s bogus. They don’t care they only have ulterior motives. If they cared about players they’d have a better ticket and support system and staff. It’s a joke.
you assume there are actual people on the other side of the report system - there are not - thats why you got banned because it’s a numbers game. Modern corporations and the internet in general should have created a wealth of new jobs, instead they sent them all to the third world, and now they dont even pay people there if they can pretend that they exist by lying or get AI to do it.
Very old news but when the anti-toxicity report system were introduced back in OW1, a very famous Torb OTP politely refused to switch yet still get banned.
BLZ claimed refusing to switch is not toxic and unbanned him later, but we knew what happened.
I’d rather believe their report>ban system works completely automatically based on sheer number of report.
So guys, report for everything you don’t like before getting reported!
This also happens on other platforms, it happened to me on Xbox once. Someone messaged me a bunch of toxic stuff about my gameplay, but they put spaces in the words, replaced some letters with numbers or symbols to fool the system.
The moment I wrote back, they reported me. And since I didn’t conceal my words, the automated system picked them out and gave me two strikes on my account.
Luckily the lack of games meant I switched to PlayStation, so no big deal for me. My point is that this also happens outside of Overwatch, never get dragged into a fight or conversation, don’t respond. Mute/block and report, silence is your greatest ally in these situations.
Account silences are automated. Blizzard admits this. This is simply because the resources Blizzard has are finite, and if there are people being abusive/racist or spamming and they had to do everything manually then it would take way too long for them to take action.
Account bans on the other hand, are not. Those are done manually. An account ban, even if it’s only for 24 hours, is something that a staff member at Blizzard has approved after reviewing the evidence.
OP claims they got banned on two different accounts, so unless they chose to use ban instead of silence, then Blizzard would have manually approved those. Oh and for the record OP?
This is 100% against the rules and you’ll be banned for it. Blizzard does not permit account sharing, no matter the game and it doesn’t matter to them if they quit or not.
The only way you can legally share an account is if you are a parent/guardian and it is your child (that is under the age of 18) that is using the account.
