Feel like the best counter to him is ignoring him and diving the hell outta the team…he wants to brawl against a beefy target

Roadhog can be potent. Your vape can counteract his overdrive so its just tow big bodies healing for huge tons for a draw.
Then Hog has specifically much more CC and sudden burst. Where Mauga has a high constant stream of damage.
So Hog can really just make Mauga miserable as hook forces Mauga charge a lot and you can survive his onslaught wih breather.
Then Hog’s ultimate just beats Mauga’s.
Either way most of what Hog does naturally forces Overrun, Vape makes jim able to tank Mauga’s guns and Hog has a much better corner game which allows him defender’s advantage so he can choose when to engage Mauga on his terms.
Does that make sense?
Hog traps Mauga and Mauga loses options with Hog unless the Hog refuses to play around cover, thusly he just then becomes a flat out healing battery for Mauga.
OK, I lol’d at this, and just imagined it being the well at Ilios.
That said, I too counter Mauga with Rein by just shoulder blocking him off a cliff or something. Even a full-length charge with no pit, if my team is paying attention, gives us a chance to pick off the supports that are chasing us as we skate back. It is however, usually death for Rein unless there is a pit, but it’s worth it.

Hog is really underrepresented on that map. I hardly see any hogs on that map nor making use of the pit.
Throw maui in the trash where he belongs.

right. i thought it was a meme at first like illios well but being able to hook a slow immobile tank with no vertical mobility down the pit gets insane value.
and the tanks that do have vertical mobility to get out usually have a terrible matchup into hog anyway (winston, doom, d.va, even ball)

Part of it I think is that the pit is much smaller and the distance from cover to hole is greater than that of well.
I find that insulting.
You can walljump out of the pit as Ball and Winston can jump around the edge od the center for backline control.
Hog is really not that bad to face since he’s slow cumbersome and that hook means he’s not killing my teammates. Might as well eat it.
Their gameplan still stands. Kill Hog’s backline and he becomes roast pork. As far as fighting Hog. I just help burn his resources.
I eat hook, I shoot more at Hog to burn vape, and make him panic so he misuses trap or telegraphs it.
Could be the 7 year dive specialist veteran in me. But most Hog’s are not that bad.
If anything I can go Mauga and just test out how well they can run, little Piggy.
yeah but playing any dive tanks against hog, for the average player you have to play a lot better than the hog does to get value which is my point. like a winston or doom can theoretically play around a roadhog but they usually never want to directly interact with him
especially when he has good hook management. like using hook when winston leaps out or when doom blocks etc. i think ball can play around hog the best because his movement is more erratic and he is the tankiest dive tank anyway. i mean in an ideal world it’s just hog countering you but when there’s other abilities at play like hack, hinder, sleep, anti, hogs presence becomes that much more threatening
