Bastion's rifle feels less effective than Soldier's; Why?

Bastion’s rifle is just as good if not better than soldier76…
While technically Soldier does 160 dps and bastion does 140 dps overall (correct me if i’m wrong), Bastion does 20 damage per bullet compared to 19 for soldier and Bastion’s rifle has LESS SPREAD.
I have way better result playing bastion against pharah because i prefer his rifle and i have better survivability against her. (300HP help survive more rockets and i can heal while running away if necessary compared to soldier who need to stand in the healing pool).
Of course Soldier has helix rocket for burst damage but that doesn’t make bastion’s rifle bad…

I’ve spent 80 hours playing Bastion; most of that after his rifle was buffed.

I’ve only spent 7 hours on Soldier and don’t like playing him, but as soon as I swap to him I notice a drastic difference. Without even using the rockets, I find myself better able to shoot Zenyattas and Junkrats dead.

I’ve lost count of the number of duels I’ve lost as a Bastion to Junkrats and whatnot, where I’ve dodged better than them (with my huge bulk) and mostly killed them with the Recon rifle and just need one more shot to win, but my spread has reached maximum and I don’t have the full second I need for the bloom to shrink.

Bastion needs better long range capability. He used to have that with Sentry Mode, and now he doesn’t have it in any mode despite the buffs to Recon.

Because Soldier has a aimbot and isn’t as big as my mom at my cousin’s sweet 16

Because he has more mobility, more on demand burst, and better self healing in that he can do that and shoot at the same time?

Incase you didn’t get it yet Bastion is the size of a Broad Side of a Barn and Character size is a big deal in this game

(Lookin at you tracer )

Soldier can also rocket jump on demand with his Alt-Fire rather than his Ultimate.

Randomized Cone Fire Bloom is one of those archaic 1990’s game mechanics that needs to die in a fracking fire already. If you are trying to similate recoil, put actual recoil in the game. This rewards player input and skill, rather than LOL RNG SCROOOSSS YOU TODAY

Here are the facts

-Soldier’s rifle does 171 DPS, Bastion’s does 160
-Against amour those numbers change to 126 and 120 respectively
-Soldier’s gun has falloff that starts 4 meters farther than Bastion’s, they both have max falloff at the same distance
-Their max falloff is both x0.3 of max damage.
-Soldier has a faster reload
-Bastion can fire full auto for 3.125 seconds before needing to reload, Soldier can for 2.777
-Bastion’s rifle has about half of the spread of Soldier’s

That last point is really important. Bastion in recon is scary from far away since his gun is just so accurate. I’d say Soldier has the better rifle overall, but it’s important to note that Bastion has Sentry mode and should be played around that configuration as much as possible

Nah, recoil patterns have their place in CoD, BF, R6 and CSGO. We don’t need them in an arcade shooter. If you want to pixelhunt from across the map, just pick Widow.

Why not? It certainly reflects player skill a hell of a more than LOL Conefire, especially when tracking a distant target or aiming at someone’s head

Hitscan that’s too accurate encourages poking from far away, and that is boring as hell to play as and against. McCree’s range got nerfed because he did just that. He’d mow people down from 40 meters away and there wasn’t much to do about it other than also play hitscan and win the duel.

McCree isn’t as big as Bastion, and combat rolling is better than no mobility option at all.

Bastion doesn’t want to be trading pokes at long range with his rifle because he’s always the easier target. His rifle could be better at it and he’d still want to avoid it, but at least it wouldn’t be hopeless when he’s forced to do it against Widowmaker, McCree, Soldier, Pharah, Genji, Hanzo…

The biggest difference I find is that Soldiers burst fire spread resets MUCH faster than Bastions, so it feels much smoother to burn Pharah down with small and constant bursts than it does to do the same with Bastion.

The much better fire-rate and fall-off certainly helps too.

I like it more. And i would use recon bastion instead of soldier only if he had smaller hitbox

You’re not lying or joking, but that’s still ridiculous.

How accurate can Bastion be in a practical sense when his large hitbox punishes him for taking as long as Soldier to line up a shot? With his smaller profile, Soldier needs to dodge less, and that’s before plopping his Healing Beacon down.

Yes, except after the nerfs, Sentry doesn’t have the effective range necessary to deal with anyone. Which is a problem for a Defense hero who relies so much on setting up in a good position BEFORE the enemy can shoot at him.

One way or another, Bastion needs better ranged firepower.

I’m replying to the guy who thinks conefire is a bad idea, I’m not talking about Bastion. That being said, you’re wrong. Bastion in recon is better at range than he is up close. His accuracy is the biggest reason to play in recon.

So why is it easier to kill at range with Soldier without rockets or ult?

Because you trade team healing, smaller hitboxes, burst damage, and better mobility for more hp, larger hitbox, a better tank busting ability, and a less team oriented heal?

It’s possible to make Bastion an offshoot of Soldier, or at least one that has some significant trade offs.

Bastion’s conefire is 1.25 degrees. Soldier’s is 2.4 degrees. Bastion is nearly twice as accurate when it comes to long range engagements.

Really? I play a lot of Soldier, and used to play a bit of Bastion, it always seems to me Soldier’s more accurate. Maybe it’s his huge hitbox punishing him for being in recon mode at all or his slow reload speed, hard to say.

Or maybe it’s counting his rifle at maximum spread?
