Bastion Rework Discussions

Do y’all feel if Bastion would ever be reworked, they’d just put a weaker tank configuration on “E” and give him a new ultimate?

It seems plausible because he has nothing on “E”.

I wonder what his new ultimate could be. Suggestions?

He could have an ultimate that just buffed him overall, or he could have sentry on tank treads.

What if instead of it being an ultimate, he just had a third configuration he could freely swap in and out of.

The third configuration alters his regular abilities/primary fire

Like tankmode on E? Because you just described tankmode on E.

Obviously, tank mode is becoming a regular ability on cooldown. Can’t wait to see the new ult.

No, he has 3 configurations to freely swap out of.

Look up Artio from SMITE.

A hero with different forms to swap to, and their kit changes based on the form they’re in.

Tank-mode as an ult is pretty meh as it has a worse damage output than sentry, the advantage is it gives him AoE & mobility.
so I’m thinking a rework like:

Sentry-mode focuses on raw-damage and increased damage mitigation.

Tank-mode gives him Aoe-damage and mobility, but he’s more susceptible to damage.

Recon-mode gives him mobility & utility.

And depending on the configuration he’s in, his E does something different.

Unless they suddenly decide not to do the ult swap thing on the one hero it actually makes sense on.

They can’t do that surely? Can they?

Yes please. 20 CHARACTERS

Yeah, if tankmode was one of them bound to E you have recon sentry and tank available at all times.

I’m getting confused cos I haven’t played him in a while

Isn’t his self-heal on his E?

If so, I meant keep the third configuration on his ult button, and the E behaves differently depending on the configuration

His healing was moved to his RMB so E has nothing on it right now. Alt fire heals him at the moment.

I think main problem with bastion is that he is great visual concept, but a bit terrible character one… Each buff can easily make him into an overpowered must pick. His damage is so high that even now with his self heal, all the shields and healers available he can be a real bother to uncoordinated teams. He can easily come back as another pirate ship meta if buff happens.

Then I’m an idiot

so tank gets moved to E, now has 3 configurations to choose between and also gets a new ult?

Yes. It’d probably be something like Valk where it buffs some aspects of his kit and you still get to freely use your kit.

What about for x seconds he gets his beta shield back + barrier piercing.

Would make him a viable choice on attack against shield-heavy comps & could help stop GOAT’s when it pops up

There’s been quite a bit of discussion on this type of rework over the years (yeah, years… FeelsBadMan). Here’s my version of it, but there are a few others as well…

Tank on E
  • General changes
    • Being stunned during a transformation now instantly completes the transformation
  • Configuration Recon
    • Reload time reduced to 1.5 seconds (Formerly 2 seconds)
  • Configuration Sentry
    • Headshots added
    • Bloom added to weapon
      • Initial accuracy of 1.25°, bloom starts after 0.3 seconds of continuous fire
      • Reaches a maximum of 2° after 0.3 seconds of additional continuous fire
    • Ammo reduced to 250
    • Reload time increased to 2.5 seconds (Formerly 2 seconds)
  • Configuration Tank (E Ability)
    • Damage reduced to 120 (Formerly 205)
      • Splash damage now ranges from 40 - 85 damage (Formerly 70 - 145)
    • Splash radius reduced to 2 meters (Formerly 4 meters)
    • Tank tread sounds reduced
    • 3 shots per clip
    • Ammo reloads over time similar to Doomfist’s gun
      • Shot timer and reload timer are independent, meaning he can reload shots even while shooting. This gives an effective 5 shots to begin with, and then one shot every 2 seconds afterwards.
    • Ammo reloads at 1 shell per 2 seconds
    • No self damage
    • Transformation time reduced to 1 second (Formerly 1.5 seconds)
  • Ironclad (Passive)
    • Persistent Ironclad is removed from all modes (Sentry and Tank)
    • Ironclad is now bound to Self-repair
    • Ironclad can now be activated even in Recon mode
  • Self-repair
    • No longer consumes resources when it does not heal Bastion
    • Starts healing instantly instead of having an 0.5 second delay
    • Applies 25% Ironclad for duration of repair
  • Overclock (Ultimate Ability)
    • Adds 150 armor to all forms
      • Alternatively, gives passive 35% Ironclad in Sentry/Tank, and 20% Ironclad in Recon. These are not bound to repair, they are passive.
    • Instantly reloads all ammo for all forms
    • Reduces transformation time by half
    • Lasts 8 seconds
  • Overclock (Recon mode)
    • Increases movement by 18% (From 5.5 m/s to 6.5 m/s)
    • Increases rate of fire by 50% (From 8 r/s to 12 r/s)
    • Reduce reload speed by 50% (From 1.5 s to 1 s)
  • Overclock (Sentry mode)
    • Grants CC immunity
    • Increases rate of fire by 16% to (From 30 r/s to 35 r/s)
  • Overclock (Tank mode)
    • Recharge rate decreased to 1 second (Normally 2 seconds)
    • Increase direct hit damage to 205
    • Reverts splash damage and radius to their current values

Here’s the thread that specific rework came from if anyone cares…

It actually came from Zirkel on the old forums. I later picked it up and put it on a megathread (which died :frowning: ) and it spread to a bunch of other places.

I meant the thread that the rework posted there came from, not the original thread
