Limited sentry mode uptime is a great idea, also fits with his ambush character feel. I think it’s more defense, not more damage output, that he needs during sentry mode, so that he’s not as reliant on barrier tanks. I agree with removing self-healing during sentry mode, sitting in one spot and outhealing incoming damage like he did when ironclad was strong isn’t such a great playstyle. Headshot damage is mostly good at close range, adding it would make him a shorter range character, not so sure that’s a good thing.
Torb hard counters pirateship. One glob of his ult and now Bastion won’t stop burning as long as he’s on the payload.
How about we don’t ruin him?
The projectile doesnt go trough shields
Thats why he would be compensated in other areas
That’s why you flank or use some form of protection from one of your own tanks to get there.
You’d better triple sentry’s damage or some crazy stuff like that (don’t) if you’re going to take away infinite use. Infinite is, well, infinite. as soon as you cap it it becomes finite, that’s an enormous nerf whether you know it or not.
You say make him more defensive so that he’s less reliant on his team, and then you say remove self-heal during Sentry mode…?
I’d like to point out, Sentry mode isn’t an ability (Reconfigure is an ability, but Sentry mode is not). It’s his primary gun. Yes, Recon is his default mode/gun, but it wasn’t designed to be his primary source of damage. Limiting Sentry mode like this is basically just a 10 second reload time…
An alternate idea as far as a CD on sentry would be to disable reloading during it and possibly adjust the ammo count, automatically reverting to recon once ammo is out with a CD based on how much ammo is used/remaining.
Would give the user a bit more flexibility I think.
Apart from the cooldown dependent on ammo count, I wouldn’t mind this one as much… reloading when switching guns is just part of the game, there’s no real reason to have Bastion be the only hero that disobeys that… I don’t think it should eject him from Sentry though, that should be left to the player, especially if they keep Ironclad.
Fair enough, could even just have sentry ammo be a resource meter with the form itself being a free toggle as it is currently. The meter would also help players stay aware of their ammo count.
I think I’d prefer an ammo count to that… I personally don’t think he really needs a hard limit on Sentry, but I do think he could stand to lose the extra 100 ammo that his rework gave him. Losing that cuts his firing time from 10 seconds to 6.67 seconds, and if players have to reload more, they’ll probably use Recon a lot more…
That comes with a spread reduction/revert by the way, and possibly headshots back, though maybe just 1.5x multiplier. Simply reducing Sentry’s effectiveness will just ruin him…
Well my ideas were implied to go along with a buff the the mode itself, something to be taken in exchange for something given.
I think just a spread reduction would be best, allowing headshots even with a reduced multiplier can make it feel inconsistent on the receiving end due to the sheer dps. A full health Roadhog being fired upon by a Bastion should reliably feel “I got 2 seconds to GTFO”
I don’t know if he really needs headshots, but I think they should at least give them a try… a 1.5x multiplier would put him at an absolute maximum of 660* DPS, which isn’t that much higher than his normal DPS, but allows those who are good to squeese a little more out of him.
* 15 × 1.5 = 22.5, but since it’s converted to an integer, it becomes 22. Then 22 × 30 = 660
And then there’s always the “Rework DPS nerf, but without a spread increase” thing…
Set damage per bullet to 12
Revert spread
Add headshots
1.25x damage to barriers
That puts him at 360 base DPS, 720 max DPS, and 450 DPS with 50% 25% headshot accuracy…
Yeah seriously though I think he needs another rework. Something that empowered recon for being in sentry long enough and vice versa. Like I personally would give him a personal barrier and speed boost coming out and make his tank mode not hurt himself but still allow the knockback for some safety and movement strats.
I still think that Sentry should have a limited use, but not allowing to heal himself and use the barrier instead might work too idk
Imagine if McCree only reloaded one bullet per second, but he could punch while reloading… That’s pretty much what limiting Sentry mode is. Restricting Bastion’s primary weapon, and only allowing him to use his secondary…
And if they change Recon to be his intended primary weapon, then he just becomes a significantly worse version of Soldier that has a somewhat high damage sometimes, but not often enough to really make a difference.
He would have insane burst dmg than can delete shields and tanks in not time, also he would have more to him (like the barrier, or being tankier for example).
Soldier would have his mobility and also have the Aoe heal, Bastion would be tankier and have insane dmg temporarily, they may look similar but they arent.
The same happened with Genji and Doomfist
No, not at all, The niche about bastion is beeing able to swap forms at any time, this wouldnt help at all, he would be left with recon that is a joke,
Thats why it would be buffed/changed…
What if Bastion were allowed to move sloowly like Sgt Hammer in Hots.
If they keep his spread (which you didn’t change in the OP), then he doesn’t really have insane temporary damage because he can’t hit anything… he would have higher damage by just using Recon and getting a few headshots.
Soldier is significantly smaller and faster than Bastion. So yes, he has less health, but Bastion is much more likely to be hit, which means Bastion is still more likely to die faster (which can be observed in normal gameplay).
