Yeah, there are no dinks, but… have to ever played Soldier into him? Idk, it feels pretty satisfying imo because you hit literally every shot so he just… dies.
But anyway, even if killing him isn’t satisfying (you know you can headshot him after he leaves turret form, right?), playing against him in general is pretty fun. I’d rather play against two Bastions than a Sombra or a Widow. There is no cheese and everything he does is well telegraphed. If you die to Bastion it’s always a skill issue and that’s exactly how it’s supposed to be.
I do not like Bastion, but that may be because I play TANK. All the Tank. Rein? Ripped through like a god damn pinata. Zarya? 100% charge off a Bastion is nice, but oh crap nope I’m dead. Ram? Well I can at least do something with block, ditto with Fist. I usually end up swapping Sigma if there’s a particularly annoying Bastion.
If the Bastion can aim his normal primary fire and I’m for some reason not playing Tank, I will weep. Because in a rando lobby, nobody seems to SEE THE OVERSIZED TURRET. He can solo against god damn TANKS.
You’re talking to a GM. That’s not applicable to me.
Used to main him.
And that only matters against a few heroes. Outside of them, he sits out of people’s range and spams projectiles, not even really aiming that much. There’s zero skill to playing Zen outside of winning duels with flankers. His skill cap is literally other heroes that might not even be played.
You place an orb on someone that gets low, keep Discord on the Tank, and spam. There’s no skill expression in that.
He just makes the fight so stale and boring. I played 10 comp games yesterday - every single one had a Bastion. If they didn’t start with him, they swapped to him when they started losing.
And then that entails baiting out his turret form and then waiting to engage. And that is assuming he’s not being double pocketed. It makes fights last so much longer and is becoming more and more annoying to go against.
Shallowly, I’m getting to the point where I’m getting so annoyed at him being in every game because of how corny his playstyle is and how it changes the pace of fights, that I liked him better when he was obscure. More fairly, I think these changes aren’t the right ones. Putting even more stock in his turret form with the armor changes making him tankier, but making it so he sucks outside of that, doesn’t feel like a good place to be. He’s a clunky hero to play as and against.
Also re: the back and forth above me - Zen and Mercy both take skill, this doesn’t need to be a competition between “who is easier”. They do wildly different things.
This exactly he is the equivalent of double shield or stuff, just slows the game down to a drawl, everyone know how to kill him, but rubbing nails on chalk board is more fun.
Bastion is easy to deal with, yeah he’s beefy but he’s easy af to hit. His hitbox is tank sized. (i think he’s actually bigger than a few tanks like doom, queen and normal mode ram)
His ult is pretty bad? It’s fairly easy to get out of if you have a mobility ability.
Ram or Dva are great against bastion.
As Ram i save my shield specfically for bastion (obviously i might use it in an emergency as well). Just drop the shield in front of bastion and he can waste his tank form chewing through it or driving around it, either way he’s shut down easily.
He’s not a difficult hero to play against, he just has bursts of extreme lethality that you have to play around, be it countering it, CC’ing it, absorbing it, blocking it off, ect.
Super easy to shut down a bastion with any role.
Though i will say, ive been playing against alot of newly buffed Zarya + bastion and thats a brutal combo, saving the bubbles for tank form and having bastion be super aggressive, then a fully charged Zarya comes stomping in. Thats rough!
