Baptise needs some help

I just don’t like hist ult… I think is pretty underwhelming I swear it could even work as an ability with a 15+ CD with reduced duration of course

His whole kit feels really weak. Except exo-boots, every part of him is underwhelming.

I’d like to see regen-burst (which has been sort of ignored) be reworked into a more unique ability. And revert grenades to 60 healing- his healing feels underwhelming and can barely outheal anything at the moment.

It really is one of the most boring ults to use isn’t it? Like “hey team, group up behind this tiny window so you can only shoot through this narrow field… and hey, let’s hope the enemies don’t have Graviton or Earth Shatter so they can take advantage of us sitting together so comfy!”.

I mean yes, this is an exaggeration and the ult can be very useful, but for me it’s hands down the most boring ult in the game and the one I look least forward to using.

I agree, it just exists sometimes your team won’t even notice or care.

The best use is for a random Fire Strike insta-kill or boosting a Turret/Bastion and Maybe a 76 ult?
The powered healing is not really that great because the wall is static and realistically, in a team fight there is going to be lots of constant movement.

The ult is the reason I don’t play much Baptiste, I feel I could just go Moira, get the ult and just do more

Precisely this!
And now that they are using Experimental Card more and more, It would be great to see some changes there. Better trying something than just acting like he does not even exist.

I agree here, every single ult including nano feel just powerful or can be a game changer. Bapt ult feel so situational and useless that they might as well take it off and the character will pretty much remain the same.

which made him the second best support of all time

I’d say these changes would be a good start

Biotic Launcher (Primary Fire)

  • Recovery time decreased from 0.45 to 0.36 seconds
  • Clip Size reduced from 45 to 30

Biotic Launcher (Secondary Fire)

  • Heal Explosion increased to 60 from 50
  • Fire Heal Explosion radius increased to 4 meters from 3
  • Fire Heal Radius is now 60/45/30/15
  • Clip size is reduced to 10 from 12

This makes his primary fire effective again, but now it punishes you more for missing. So if you run out of shots, you risk being defenseless while healing someone, or reloading at key moment when you could have saved someone.

The Healing Nades are now much better at spreading heals in a tightly packed group, vs Ana’s single target healing. So reducing the clip size to compensate for that seems like a logical choice.

From there it’s a matter of deciding what to do with his Immortality Field and Heal Burst. I can’t help but feel these could easily be one ability, make it essentially a healing station that provides a burst of health immediately when it’s deployed. So it can still stop deaths but not be as insanely strong.

Baptiste is really good right now, I have a 66% wr on him in gm. Not only that he saw A LOT of playtime in the May Melee owl tournament last month too.

If you want to buff him, lower the cd on his self heal by like a second or two and he is a great pick, in more than just gm, again.

Just make his healing easier and clearer. I can’t heal our pharah and to this day I don’t know what the heck is his shift skill.

orisa sig bap poke meta so lower ranked players dont have to learn how to play the game POGGERS LETS GO DUDE

This, tbh. She does his job, has an easier time of it, does it better…AND she has more survivability. This is a bap issue, though; not a Moira one.

Personally, I hate the recoil on his gun. It just messes me up every time, but Bapt mains might like it.

When heroes of easier capacity outshine heroes that are more difficulty to use, you have a game design problem.

I just wish they’d stop whatever’s causing his jump boost to be cancelled everytime he suffers even the tiniest bit of knockback. I’ve died because stray baby zarya projectiles stopped me from jumping.

His shift is probably the best healing ability in the game. It’s like a small Mercy ultimate.

Yeah, it feels like the developers think the problem with his balance is IF. Where I’d say it’s that his healing and damage have always been either not good enough or way too good. He’s never been numerically balanced.

and she’s more versatile

his main issue is that he’s not versatile enough to justify running him in any non-orisa comp over moira or ana. Making his right click easier to hit (bigger projectile hitbox, bigger splash radius) and decreasing his shift cooldown a little would make him better in rein based comps.

He is high skill, same as ana, but less popular. Immortality is one of the best abilities in the game still. I personally wouldn’t buff him, and I’ve been freaking loving him this season ngl.

The supports would be in a really good state right now if Baptiste wasn’t so bad. As a support player, I think Baptiste is completely outclassed.
Healing grenades: Ana is much more reliable because each shot does more healing (70 vs 50). She has better range (hit-scan vs arcing projectile). She has a faster firing rate (0.6 s vs 0.8 s). Ah, but his grenades are AOE but Moira exists and the splash radius is so small that it might as well be a single-target shot. Moira has 65 hps and can more reliably heal multiple teammates grouped together due to less mechanical skills needed and she does not need to waste time reloading as long as she manages her resource meter well. On top of that, her primary healing provides extra 65 hp healing after spraying teammates.
Triple shot: This is the only part in his kit that I think is pretty good but not enough to pick him over the other supports (at least for me). Ana has her scope so she can hit more accurate shots and she can do 70 DOT, so armor reduction does not work on Ana’s shots but it does for Baptiste’s. Zen has better damage output than Bap thanks to discord orb and he’s able to charge at max 5 shots whenever he wants while still being able to pocket heal a teammate.
Exo boots: so basically Mercy’s super jump? The only edge Baptiste has over Ana but it kind of contradicts Baptiste’s kit (mainly his Regen Burst) because if he is on high ground, his team won’t benefit from Regen Burst. Ana can burst heal her team from a safe distance with a good bio-nade. So Bap should stay close to his team right? He’s gonna get melted with his low self-sustain (both of his cool downs being very high and Immortality Field SHOULD be used for his team and not only to save himself) and if the other healer doesn’t peel for him. Moira can stay close to her team while providing the burst healing needed and being able to avoid getting melted thanks to her amazing survivability (she has multiple sources of self-healing and a get-out-of-jail free card every 6 seconds). Exo Boots is highly map dependent as well. Bap is not very good at healing teammates that are spread out even with Exo Boots’ help because again, his shots are arcing projectile and both Mercy and Ana are much better at healing teams that are more spread out. Moira is better at healing teams grouped up close together than Bap because of the reasons I said before.
Regen Burst: The 13 second cool down buff was nice but this ability, again, is outclassed. Moira’s healing orb does 65 hps for 7 seconds or until depleted and is on a 10 second cool down. Ana’s biotic grenade not only instantly gives 100 hp to all allies hit by it, but it also boosts healing from all sources by 50% while also doing 60 damage per enemy and blocks enemy healing entirely for 4 seconds. On top of that, biotic grenade is on a 10 second cool down. What does Regen Burst do? Well, it heals him and nearby allies at a slow rate of 30 hps for 5 seconds. Pretty underwhelming for a burst healing ability.
IF: His only really strong niche (or used to be). It has a lot of counter play (hack, EMP, getting destroyed by literally anything, booping enemies out of it, etc.). It lasts only 5 seconds and is on a 25 second cool down. It’s not even that reliable at protecting teammates because it can be destroyed easily by the ults themselves like Reaper’s, Pharah’s, and Genji’s and if used against high burst damage ults like D.va’s and Junkrat’s, the enemy team will just finish Bap and his team off after.
Amp Matrix: Before when it was on a low ult charge cost, it was somewhat useful because it could be used pretty much like a cool down like with Mercy’s ult. Now with it’s high ult charge cost, that’s not the case anymore. For damage boost, Orisa’s ult is better because all types of damage benefit from it while with Bap’s, only projectiles benefit. Mercy’s ult is also better because Mercy can freely choose who she wants to damage boost and again, all types of damage benefit from it. As for burst healing, Ana’s and Moira’s cool downs can do that alone and Moira’s ult can do damage through enemy shields while providing high amounts of healing. Ana’s ult not only provides instant +250 hp, but it provides a damage boost and damage reduction. While yes, only 1 teammate can benefit from her ult, it combos well with many heroes and their ults in the game and it charges relatively fast. With the healing buff, it can be used now as an emergency burst heal, making nano boost more flexible in its usage. Amp Matrix is small, stationary, and has a high ult charge cost. It’s also affected by EMP while Mercy can still chain-damage boost if she’s hacked/EMPed.

Another problem I see with Baptiste is that his synergy with other heroes is very limited. He works best with mainly Orisa, Sigma, and Bastion. He is terrible with heroes like Winston, Pharah, Tracer, Doomfist, Genji, Hammond, and Echo because his healing grenades are difficult to hit them with and you’re just better off switching to Ana or Mercy because they can heal those heroes more reliably and those heroes benefit from both of their kits in some way. Even Moira can work. Heroes like Winston and Doomfist don’t really benefit from Bap’s kit.

I’d like to see buffs to his healing grenades (either larger splash radius or increase healing to 60. His healing was honestly perfect at 60 before. Enough to keep the team alive but not too much that it made his team invulnerable), a small buff to IF (either 1 more second of IF duration or cool down decrease by 3-5 seconds), and ultimate charge cost decrease by 10-20%. He needs some major buffs or a complete rework.

Whoops! I didn’t mean to make my reply long lol! I really do want to see Bap being viable. I did enjoy his kit until it got completely nerfed into the ground.
