If I were to summarize hero ban culture, it goes like this:
“I’m gonna ban your one-trick crutch so that I can play my one-trick crutch.”
If I were to summarize hero ban culture, it goes like this:

Or just ban Sombra, really. That might be a slightly more accurate look at the ban system.
i kind of think it should be for advanced players. diamond and up but maybe diamond is too low heh… masters and up …
still if you think about it then the ban system will only be used by 10 percent of the population if that is the case heh
Imo, more bans would be very very very bad for the game, given that any bans at all is very bad for the game
Further, a lot of folks are reporting that the same characters are being banned every game. Given this pattern, banning more heroes would simply result in the same remaining pool of heroes and the same “same-ness” from match to match, albeit with fewer characters to choose from
It actually added contents called Hero bans system. It’s like RQ contents. Limitation can be a content, esp. it encourages variety and better balance practically imo.
I know some minority would play whatever they want, but most people tend to play the strongest meta even in a singleplayer game. The game then would offer only 1 content practically regardless how much contents it has. In a team game, it even becomes a vice when you don’t play the strongest ones/counters. Hero bans practically removed such hassle. The only possible problem would be when the bans are pretty much fixed after some time. The devs should then rework them asap. Also, more bans would be helpful in this case. 2-3 fixed bans could be common, but more than that, it’d be different.
This is a false statement.
It has been stated earlier in this thread that there were no hero bans added to this game back in 2020
What occurred then was that there was a system added to the game called Hero Pools. Any system than bans heros is per standard english a hero bans system, and hero pools did ban heros. I encourage any who doubt this to look it up for themselves
so…bottom line…a hero ban system was added (and soon removed) from OW in 2020
Bans are indeed horrible for this game

For me, hero bans are one of THE worst changes made to this game, ever
Bans are the BEST thing to happen to the game, like, ever. SO sick of the one and only meta we’ve been suffering through for almost a DECADE now … teams clash, Ana throws her grenade into the mix stopping ALL healing, whole team dies. Games can actually be good, hard-fought battles now. NEVER want to go back to battles with Ana in them… she completely ruins the game. If Mauga or Hog become OP because of lack of Ana, then tune them down a little… DON’T bring the main problem back. Ana players have been climbing to the top of the ladders for free for too many years.
I don’t mind bans, I just wish people weren’t dumb about them.
Banning Sombra and Mercy as a priority and leaving Sojourn unbanned is something that I see my team do, and I want to smack them because it’s always a Sojourn that diffs our DPS hard.
Like use your bans on the actual OP heroes that cause you to lose, not the heroes that are barely in any matches to begin with in Diamond. Even when they’re not banned they’re not in the matches.
It isn’t require to ban OP heroes because the bans are applied to both teams the same. People just ban the most annoying heroes. Soj or hitscans can be annoying but it seems they’re not the most annoying for most people. So, when we increase the ban slots by 2-3, then they could be banned as well.
When they rage in team chat about how Soj is OP and unfair…I will think they should have banned her.
Most people don’t ban what’s strong, they ban what they perceive as annoying.
In most ranks, Sojourn is played poorly. And even if there is a good sojourn player once in a while, people will not be very mad because they will subconsciously respect that performance.
On the other hand, a hero like Sombra is perceived as annoying, even if she has a 40% win rate.
I know how it’s frustrating to play against a good hitscan, but only if their aim is above the tiers. I mean, smurfs. Otherwise, it is often manageable imo. So, frustration against a hitscan is fairly rare for me. I ban only widow among hitscans in the widow maps.
This is exactly how modern devs solving balance problem – forwarding responsibilities on players by giving us ban hammer and perks
ofc I missuse it? wasn’t that the Intention with it?
Always target the heroes your team selected as prefered I thought that Phase was to allign our banns with each other.
I’d push back on this and say that Sojourn is just overpowered. That is why she’s frustrating. I do not care about a Soldier, or even an Ashe. They are manageable. But Sojourn just zips away, her railgun has too large of a hitbox and charges incredibly fast, and her perks are S-tier.
Widow is situational. Though, I am annoyed they didn’t ban her on Havana
They choose to run away like cowards rather than actually improve themselves, making excuses like “this will show the dev who is unbalanced/broken” etc. The result is longer queues and less skilled gameplay, masked by the so-called “perk” system.
And in the end, nothing has changed. Throwers are still throwing, leavers are still leaving, queues are getting longer, new ‘broken’ heroes are running wild, all because they are lying to themselves and their hipocrisy (denying the fact that they need to improve) is hurting others as a whole.
What if I want you to smack me? Bye bye Sombra, hello Andough.
