Every now and then this seems to happen to me and while the first time it happened, I was able to fix it by resetting the console, every time after it hasn’t worked.
I’ve looked up fixes, uninstalled and reinstalled the game, I don’t know what’s wrong but it’s ONLY Overwatch. Other games work, other devices like my phone and laptop work, it’s only Overwatch.
So I assume it’s an Overwatch issue and not the console or the wifi. Little orange squares and a recycle symbol pop up in the corner, no idea what those mean if it helps.
Which Xbox console are you playing on? If you happen to be playing on the older version of the Xbox One, Overwatch doesn’t run as good on that anymore. As there are newer consoles (Xbox series X|S) the updates are optimized for those, not older versions. My brother in law also struggled with lots of lag and very slow loading until he upgraded to the series X.
The same issue has been present on PS for months. The spike can go upwards of 500 ping causing the game to be unplayable until it lowers itself (can take over a minute, which means you get removed from games).
It doesn’t seem like Blizz are looking into fixing this or acknowledged it at all.
XBox One X I believe.
I’ve been wanting to upgrade for a while but I stopped watching for restocks after the whole scalping fiasco at the release of the Series X went on for so long.
I’ll look into it though, thanks. I do worry that when I do eventually get it they’ll release the next console right after…
